Can anyone tell me how much the pressed penny machines cost? Is it better to have shiny new pennies? Also, how much is the book you can buy to keep them in?

my daughter is thinking of collecting these on our trip this summer. She has done the autograph and pin thing and is looking for something new.

My younger sister took up the pressed penny collecting. Each pressed penny costs $.50 + the penny. Yeah the shinier and newer the penny the prettier the pressed one aswell! My sister can't really remember the exact price of the pressed penny keeping book but she saqys it was around $8.00.

51 cents. New pennies are good but you can take coke and clean the old penies as well. Many people use the MM tubes to store the 2 quarters and 1 penny so they will have them ready for the machines. Also 35 mm Film cannister works real good. I think the book are not that expensive, I think $7, it holds around 40 pennies. Some people suggest using pre 1982 due to the chemical make up, we just used newer ones in Sept and they were fine. :sunny:

Keep in mind that WDW has pressed quarters too, they're $1.00 I think. We got a couple but tried to keep to the pennies.

The new pennies will look good now, but the pre-1982 pennies will stay looking good. :) The newer ones are mostly zinc with a copper shell. When they get pressed, the zinc comes through. Problem is, the zinc can tarnish, turning black and not-so--great looking. Much easier to use old pennies (which are copper all the way through) and shine them up. I don't usually shine mine, but someone here will know how or you can google. Ketchup seems to work for a lot of folks........

Some of the gift shops will carry the books - often on top of or near the pressing machines.

The pressed coin books are available in almost all of the gift shops. These coins have been an awesome family hobby. Epcot is a great place. Have the kids get one from each country. They have a great time hunting down the machines.

they cost .50 and we like the shiny pennies the best!

Do they have any special pressed pennies for the 50th anniversary? If so, where? Is there an official list of the pennies? Thanks.

I was also wondering if there is a list of penny press machine locations. We have some from a few years ago, so don't want to duplicate. TIA

My DS5 loves collecting pressed pennies. Just a note - be prepared that some of the machines will be out of order. On our last trip in June, it seemed like 75% of the machines were out of order. He was so disappointed. It was especially bad when there was no out of order sign and then it wouldn't give back his penny. On our previous trip it didn't seem to be that bad so I'm not sure why so many of them were down in June. :confused3 Hopefully this won't be the case for anyone else.

We've had this happen. Not frequently, but it does happen. We've always been able to find a nearby CM - the ones we found broken were always inside stores for some reason - and explain. They've always given DD her 51 cents back. Sometimes they even unplug the machine or put up a sign to let others know about the problem before they put money in.

They will get fixed, but it can take a while. The park machines seem to get fixed relatively quickly, but we had one broken at a resort that took almost a week to have someone come out and fix.....

If you go to Guest Relations in each park, they can give you an up to date list of where to find what designs!!

The Quarters have been changed over to the HCOE designs. I don't remember if any of the pennies are, but the link Onceler gave would tell you if there are any.
