Pressed coin machines

So last trip (couple weeks ago), we decided to collect all the pressed coins. We emptied our change jar, and still had to get about another $10 in quarters onsite to (almost) finish up; the nickel press machine that was supposed to be at Mr. Lincoln wasn't there (CM said it may have been removed for fixing) and the penny machine at PCH grill was out of order (which really irked me because we were staying on Harbor and the only reason I walked to Paradise Pier hotel was to get those coins).

My question is, how often do they change out the designs? I'm thinking not too often since they give out maps to the location of the machines, and I know the 60th designs are new additions. Is it a once a year change? Every two years?

Aside from the holiday ones that show up during the Holiday season, I don't think the penny machines really change on a regular basis. The new ones for the 60th was the first time that I remember them doing a wholesale change in Penny Machines in a very long time. There are supposed to be more designs for the 60th, so I would expect that there will be some more new machines during the 60th celebration. Whether those machines will be pulled at the end of the Anniversary (and all of the old machines put back) is not yet known.

Holiday pennies? I will have to look for those. I wonder if they will do that this year. My guess is no because of the 60th.

I'm guessing you're right. After all, as of July the Splash machine is still the same as it was around 3+ years ago, down to the typo on the machine. We aren't buying "souenir" pennies, Disney....

The map is something new. In the past, they (sometimes) had a list of the pennies, but it was just a regular piece of paper (like the ones you can print or photocopy easily). The glossy map was something new the debuted with the 60th anniversary penny machines.

I'm hoping they're going to have holiday penny machines this year, but they'll probably have something to do with the 60th. There are usually holiday machines at the exit to Mr. Lincoln and over on BVS during the holiday season.

PCH grill machine was up and running last week. Nickel machine is still missing from the Opera House, and one of the penny machines there was broken.

Also, as for parkpennies.com, note that there are two machines listed as being in the Starcade, and they are *off-stage* so you can't get to them. Bummer for me as I was looking forward to some TRON coins.

For those that are collecting the 60th Anniversary pressed pennies, I think there might be a new(ish) machine over in WoD. When I first checked out all the machines in May (I think), the second machine in WoD had the 1955 decade images (Walt, Tinkerbell, and the Castle). When I stopped by last weekend, that machine now had images from 1955-1994 (Mermaid, Bird, and Monorail). If you're in the area and collecting the pressed pennies, it might be worth checking out WoD on a regular basis to see if that machine changes often.

The ones that change are the yearly one with 2015 on it (I think that one is already offline though). There are random ones that pop up in various shops like the frozen ones, and some randomly get taken away every few months it seems. The various lands pennies have been around for a while I think. The 60th set was the biggest change in a while and I would guess they would stay until next year and wouldn't expect too many changes besides possibly holiday stuff.

The downtown disney store decades machine changes every 2 months. It just changed to 1965-1974.

does anyone know if there are any Quarter Machines at Riverside or French Quarter? Portorleans.org lists quarter machine on a site dated 2013, but Presscoins.com has no listings for any quarter machines at those resorts...

You would probably have better luck asking this question up on WDW Theme Parks board or maybe the WDW Resorts Board because this board is primarily focused on Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. I didn't look everywhere when I was at PoR last year, but I don't recall seeing any quarter machines (only penny machines).

I got NEARLY every one last time with the exception of the Nickel at the gag factory I think (out of order). I used silver for all the quarters/dimes/nickels and pre-1981 copper for all the penny ones. Expensive task, but some great souvenirs.

Sweet! and problems using silver? i know its a little bit stronger than the copper....

I have already spent $40 on silver quarters just to be prepared for our trip... any truth to the rumor that there is a dime machine at space mountain? I'll get some silver dimes too if that is true...

I'm planning on pressing about 15 silver quarters, 4 silver dimes, and several rolls of copper pennies at MK, Epcot, and select resorts... I've decided to skip Animal Kingdom and select only a few from the Studios, cause if I try to get everything I know I'll drive my family nuts!

Nope, the silver did great, with the exception of one machine which tore one of them. I took extra coins, so I just re-ran it, but being a quarter machine, that was an expensive oops. Had the same thing happen with some of the copper machines. All the silver dimes and nickels pressed perfectly, just that one issue with the quarter. I think it was at the main street train station. We were cleaning pennies with brasso every night in the hotel, and still weren't able to clean quickly enough for the next day, so our last day I think we ran some uncleaned ones through.

The issues I had with the copper machines were on Canadian copper. Don't use it. The machines aren't designed to grab correctly on the Canadian rounds. While copper, the edge/profiles just don't jive for pressing.
