prenatal ultrasound question

I went to the maternal fetal specialist for my 28 week ultrasound. Abdomen and femur are within 4 days of each other and close to the correct gestational age, but the head is measuring 2 weeks + ahead . Doctor says all looks great, he is a specialist, so why am I so concerned? Anyone else have your ultrasound #'s all over the place?

I had frequent ultrasounds with my DD and her head was always measuring larger than the rest of her body - almost 4 weeks by the end. She did have a big head when she was born and she still has a big head (I blame her Daddy! ) At two her head is in the 95th percentile and her height is over 95th.....so she's mostly balanced.

I wouldn't worry too much, there is a margin of error on ultrasound and some kids just have bigger heads!

Sounds like me....both my kids had big ol' melons If the doc's not worried, you probably shouldn't be either.

Ultrasounds are NOT accurate anyway. They tried to tell me I had a 7.5lb baby at my last check-up. Two days later I gave birth to a 9 pounder! I KNOW she didn't put on a pound and a half in 2 days! They were getting the same kind of numbers with my son, despite the fact that I was even bigger!! Had the same midwife, though, so she agreed to induce on my due date if I made it that far. 3 days before my date I had a 9 1/2 pounder! And they were guessing 7 3/4. Like I said, NOT accurate!!

DD has always had a big head, she is in the 25-30th percentile for weight, 50th for ht and 95th for head!

Trust me, when I saw that big ol' head, I was GLAD to have had a c-section!!!

Just the opposite here...my youngest has always been off the charts (tall) for height, average for weight, and 25th percentile for head circumference. I was afraid she might be not quite bright because of her small head size. Not so. This is the child who recently (at 4yo) told me at naptime that she was "not available for sleeping."

Bottom line is that there can be variation in headsize, and it's probably nothing to be concerned about.

I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. If there was, your doctor would have said something. My doc has always said "If there's a problem, you'll know about it." Your baby probably just has a big head. My son did too--ouch! I'm hoping this one (due July 4) has a smaller head.
