My little sister has collected Precious Moments for years and had them displayed on a shelf. Well, in the middle of the night, it all came crashing down! She was only able to salvage one of them because most of them are in hundreds of pieces. Her collection included her cake topper from her wedding and a gift from her dh while they were expecting their first child. She was devastated.

I collect hippos (I know that sounds silly) and I know I would be crushed if something happened to them. I'm going to try to help her start replacing them, but I know it still won't be the same. Has anyone else lost a special collection like this? What did you so to feel better about it?

Personally, I haven't lost a collection like that, by my SIL did. While their house was being built, they stored some boxes in my MIL's garage. In one of those boxes was 1/2 of her Precious Moments collection, including their wedding cake topper.

Evidently, my MIL must've gotten too close one time when she was pulling her car in the garage because when they unpacked the box in their new home, they were all in pieces. They never did tell my MIL about it because she would've felt bad and wanted to replace them all. It was the memories attached to some of the pieces that made my SIL the most upset.

I never lost an entire collection, but have had items get broken. I had a ceramic horse that was close to 10yrs old end up broken. Apparently the cat felt the horse was threat to everyone so he jumped up on the mantel and knocked him off:o (Honestly this is NOT why he is no longer with us. Although the thought did cross my mind;) ) I also had some of my horses broken when we moved and DH and friends tossed the box!!!:earseek:  I guess the fact it was marked "FRAGILE" everywhere didn't matter:rolleyes: (Same thought I had for cat crossed my mind about DH this time)
I was able to replace the ceramic horse eventually. I had saved the original horse (or what was left of it anyway) and searched several shops until I found an unpainted match, then I found someone to paint it to match the original. It's not exact but pretty close:)
I just had to keep reminding myself that these were "just objects" and the original memories were the important thing
:) (Ok that doesn't always work but hey it sounds good:p )
