CHARACTERS:

DH, also known as DOD (dear ole dad): A loving hubby and father who thinks everyone is insane with their obsession of WDW and for that matter any theme/amusement park. When asked anything about vacation planning, his response is always just tell me where and when to be there, that’s all I need to know. He humors his family and friends by walking along and proclaiming “been there done that” or “what is all the excitement about.” (His views have since changed on this idea, thanks to the unknown princess)

DW, also known as OCFM (obsessive compulsive frugal mom): A doting mom who deals with every aspect of family’s life, loves planning dream vacations down to every little imaginable detail and a biggie on creating family memories. For a family of 3, she packs no less than 5 suitcases just so everything is covered and no unexpected surprises, emotionally or financially.

DD, also known as DARLING DIVA: Our late in life (OMG I’m turning 40 and want a baby) little girl who’s older siblings say she gets away with everything (hence the name Darling Diva). She lives eats and breathes Disney. She initially was the main reason we went to Disney in 2005 and definitely the reason we went again in 2006.

DS, also known as TCFP (to cool for parents): Our 12 year old who thinks all parents should fall of the face of the earth and that being seen with them in public...especially in our area...is the most embarrassing thing that could ever happen to him. And (please forgive him for this thought) thinks Disney is for little kids ONLY.

A little background information on the initial trip: After much nagging and begging promises of a clean room forever from DD in 2004-2205, we decided to vacation at WDW in October, 2005 so the little one could experience all the WDW had to offer as a belated birthday gift. DW scoured the net for any and all information about WDW, which is how she happened to find DISBOARDS. Armed with all the positive comments, ideas, and suggestions she learned on Dis, she had each day planned to a “T” for their 10 day Florida trip. In short, all the planning in the world could not prepare us for the trip we had.

Last Years Trip:
Day 1: Heading to the hotel near the airport to spend the night so we will be fresh for our 6am flight out and day at Magic Kingdom. Upon arriving, they can’t find our reservation!(even tho it was confirmed the day before) After much haggling and search, 45 minutes later it is found. Yea! Upon departing the front desk, we leave a 3:30am wake-up call.

Day 2: Rolling over and glancing at the clock, it is 4:30am. 4:30am?!?! OMG we have to be at the airport in 30 minutes. A mad rush, we looked like the three stooges plus one all trying to get dressed, use the teeny tiny bathroom and get the luggage down to the hotel desk to check out and catch our shuttle. Upon checkout, when asked how our stay was, DW informed them of their oversight on our wake-up call. Upon checking, they found we indeed had a wake-up call. OOOPS…and they knocked 50% of the bill off. YEA again! Check-in was a breeze at the airport, loading was effortlessly, and we are waiting on the plane to fly into the wild blue yonder. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Mechanical problems! Two hours later we are in the air headed for WDW and Magic Kingdom. At 11:30 we are finally walking into Magic Kingdom. It was breath taking to finally be walking down Main Street. The weather was beautiful, the crowds minimal, it was more than we could have possible dreamed. Alas, by 2:30 our birthday girl was ready for a nap plus our 12 year old DS was bored. Upon returning to the room, DD slept for 5 hours while DS played in the arcade and checked out the sites. To late to return to the park after she awoke, we spent an enjoyable evening in the pool at All-Star Movies.

Day 3: We spent the day at MGM and had a wonderful time. DD wore a shirt I made that had all the princesses on it proclaiming it was DD 5th birthday. During the Parade, Cruella DeVille stopped and teased DD that next year when she came she had better have a picture of Cruella on her shirt and not those nasty princesses. After a wonderful dinner, we went back to our room to hopefully attend our first MNSSHP. But Alas, Hurricane Wilma pre-show drenched us before we made it to the party. Disney was wonderful at keeping us posted on events of the hurricane but we missed MNSSHP.

Day 4: After the all clear from Disney, we headed down to catch a ride to Magic Kingdom. The first bus loads, then the second bus loads, and while we are waiting for the next bus….it happens. A hornet flew down DS shirt and stung him 4 times. Back to the room to go to give him is meds(he is allergic to stings) and off to la-la land he goes. He awakes in time to catch our reservation at Wilderness Lodge. DELICIOUS FOOD and a fun time for the kids! Back to our room for a quick swim and off to bed. No parks that day.

Day 5: DH, DS, DD all awaken thought out the night with the flu. Guess what DW is doing. Good ole mom to the rescue. Holding heads, giving meds. and cleaning up the unmentionable. The same thing she could be doing at home, tending to the ill. Ohhhh well, tomorrow is another day.

Day 6: Late afternoon everyone is feeling better and off to try to do Magic Kingdom again. Splash Mountain was high on our list, so DH rides with DS and then DW rides with DS. The day was filled with laughter, giggles and a lifetime of memories. Whatever the Children wanted to do, we did. We had our first character meal at Liberty Tree Tavern and enjoyed every aspect of the meal. Mom ate like a horse, after all she was the only one with a healthy tummy. After a fulfilling day at the park, we headed off to dreamland early.

Day 7: DW can’t hardly move but put it off to old age. Thinking if she got up and moved around a bit she would feel better. NOPE, it continued to get worse. Within an hour of arising, she can hardly breathe, sharp pains in her left shoulder area, and a numb tingling left arm. What is going on?!?! She lingers in the room, trying to relax and sleep it off while the rest of the family just hangs out at the resort. DH wasn’t comfortable with taking the children to the park knowing DW isn’t well. She never ever gets sick and when she does, it always pushes it off. DH nags and nags for DW to go to the Dr, but being bullheaded, she won’t give in.

Day 8: DW is worse! DH puts his foot down. She can’t move in the slightest without pain. And now she had a migraine on top of it. Off the Orlando hospital they go since DH doesn’t have a lot of faith in the one at WDW. The outcome? Two herniated disc in DW neck found after an MRI. Possible reason...being jarred around. MMMMM...wonder how that happened? They start talking possible surgery and that’s when DW puts her foot down. “Get me home with meds and I will look my own DR. up”. So off they go with muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory meds, and vicodin. Wifey is no longer in pain, just passed out or luney from the drugs.

Day 9: DH is calling airlines to change flight home, which through our Magical Express all out of whack. We had to hire a taxi to get us to the airport but before we could even get there DW was done and Dh found a hotel near the airport so she could visit her own la-la land. Again, it’s DH changing the return flight back to the original return date. So much for frugal!

Day 10: DW is drugged up, still hurting, not making alot of sense and done with everything! They head back to Ohio with more turbulance then they have ever experienced in all the times they have flew. DW says promises she will never ever go to Florida again as she is popping another pill.

TOMORROW: How we ended up going to DISNEY in 2006, our trip, and the unknown princess.

Oh my goodness, how is your wife doing today and what ride did she get hurt on.

Glad you decided to give it another go at WDW.
