This year no parks before cruise, DH has burn out of WDW, so the last 2 years did Universal but this year he wants to do the beach. No problem since I am going for a week in May to WDW with DD and GK's. Has anyone done Disney Vero Beach before the cruise? We are not DVC members, and don'at want to buy points, to afraid to buy from strangers. How easy is it to get a reservation and how early to call and try? How long is the drive to the port? I have been to the DVC board and a lot of folks think it is a neat place, any opinions out there from the cruise guys?

Thanks

I would call now if you want to stay at Vero Beach. We could never get reservations there and we are very flexable with our schedule since we don't live that far away. It is now much much much easier no that we are DVC members!

We are hoping to stay there a couple nights before next year's cruise. It isn't our home resort so we have to wait until the 7 month window to reserve it.

I hope that it will be fun for the kids. We are only going to stay a couple nights, so we should enjoy it.

VB is a GREAT resort! Very relaxing - not a lot of hyper activity. Accommodations are lovely, restaurants are good (not super) Beach, pool etc. fantastic! Would highly recommend. We will be there for a week before our cruise and have done it before, just not for that long. The inn rooms and studios have coffeemakers, fridge, microwave.

The Inn rooms have microwaves and fridges too? That would be nice.

I have used all my points for next year and would have to 'borrow' points to stay at Vero Beach, so we thought we would try for an Inn Room, but I wondered about the fridge and microwave. We would want that.

We would only stay two nights. Just to relax a little before heading to our cruise. It sounds nice!

Hi,

Great question! I actually thought about asking this myself. I haven't stayed there yet and was wondering how far this place actually is from the DCL cruise port? I mean are we talking an hour or less?

....I have a two-bedroom booked for Nov. 30th just incase it is close to the port as I already have a three hour drive from Tampa, so I'd hate to drive three hours over there and then get up the next morning and have to ride in the car for a long time again before the cruise!

It seems to me it took about an hour from VB to the port, but we took the 'scenic' route up A1A thru Melbourne Beach etc. The rooms and studios are very nice and of course the 1 & 2 BR are too. The rooms are very spacious and have lovely decks. It is a gorgeous resort just north of Vero Beach right on A1A. Yes they all have the amenities - coffeemaker, micro, fridge, etc. A real treasure!

Great information! I will book today!!!

We stayed there for one night in April, on a cash basis.

We had a standard Inn room on the second floor and it had a small balcony. It was in the second or third row of buildings but it did have a view of the ocean.

It was very nice.

My Rand McNally Tripmaker software shows about 80 miles using I-95 most of the way. I would say 90 minutes of driving time would be a good estimate.

hope that helps

We are also NOT DVC members, and just make the ressies ourselves. We have stayed at the resort for the past four summers. We stayed for a week this past July, and checked-out the morning of our 7-night Western Carribean Cruise on the Disney Magic! It was a BREEZE, and being so close made it easy. We left the resort about 11:30, and arrived at Cape Canaveral at about 12:20 pm. We dropped off the rental at the Budget office, and they shuttled us over to the dock. Disney took everything curbside, and we waltzed into the terminal. We boarded the ship with plenty of time to relax, eat, and relax some more! I would ALWAYS recommend DVB for a GREAT place to stay prior to a cruise. Try to use the BIRNBAUM'S Coupon located in the back page of the 2003 issue. It saves you 25% off the rates at this resort. Good luck...Enjoy! ;)
