Prayers for Taiwan

Russia and China are allies or are they not?

Not really. There's certainly no formal military alliance like between the US and Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, New Zealand, etc.

In the past two years, Singapore has reinforced and deepened its defense ties with the United States, recently signing two substantial agreements – the 2019 renewal of the 1990 Memorandum of Understanding Regarding United States Use of Facilities in Singapore (1990 MOU) and the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning the Republic of Singapore Air Force Training Detachment at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam (Guam MOU).
Singapore enjoys strong and longstanding defence, economic and political relations with the US. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2016.
The defence relationship is underpinned by several milestone bilateral agreements, including the 1990 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the United States Use of Facilities in Singapore, the Strategic Framework Agreement (signed in July 2005) and the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (signed in December 2015).

I wonder if they mind if I started quoting Geert Wilders? He is a real firebrand
Quoting blonde politicians with crazy hairdos is always dangerous in every country ;) .

Geert is reasonably quiet nowadays, Thierry Baudet is our new... let's call him a very special person.

Every country has “very special people”. :confused3 I would like to keep this thread on topic though if possible. Thanks.:-)

I'm sure all of those death threats 24/7 gets to you after a while... Maybe Geert will convert to Islam and become the Sultan of Dubai?

I have a loved one that lives in Taipei. I have asked how it all is, as I have become unsettled with the news of escalation. And also wanted to know how it is being covered within Taiwan.

She feels that in the country - news generated and population - is not the same as the international media, even with the obvious escalation. Meaning that Taiwanese citizens are forever aware of the threat. Not that they are complacent about it, just that is how it is always - so life is lived. However, she did say that the fly-bys are a tad unsettling.

I think China is going for the long game with the escalation, the wearing down of Taiwan. That the only conclusion for them is the back in the fold. Obviously.

There is no way in hell they will do anything aggressive before the Olympics, in my opinion. As that would be game over and be the perfect timing of countries coming together against China's choices.

Countries are planning some type of practical boycott during the Olympics over China.

I wouldn't count on it. China is too powerful, will become only more powerful, and there is too much money involved.

The world weakly protested about Hong Kong or the concentration camps, China hardly pays attention to it.
If China goes to war, NATO countries will pull their businesses.

China doesn't have to go to war, as they are the most powerful. It's others who might want to go to war with China, China will defend itself.
And because other countries know how powerful China is, they don't incite anything.

As for business. China (and Taiwan) produce what the rest of the world needs/wants. cheaply. Again, that's probably going to hurt the rest of the world a lot more than it will hurt China.

China and human rights have been a hot topic for years. We keep spending. Money is more important than principles about human rights.

China is not more powerful than all of NATO. Businesses can be moved to India/Mexico to get the same cheap labor. NATO could bankrupt China while still making money by moving their businesses. South America would also support NATO efforts as well.

The key word in your post is could. Maybe they could, but they are not going to.

I have full confidence they will. If China tries to take Taiwan, they will go for the disputed islands in the Pacific and most likely the disputed Kashmir land. It will be seen by Europe as no different than the land grab by Germany in WW2. Asian countries are already unified against China.

Why bother to start a hot war? That is very expensive. It is much cheaper to bring the USA to its knees by hiring a high school student in Kiev to shut down our petroleum pipelines.

WW1 and WW2 Germany ring any bells? The USA will not sit by and neither will our allies or NATO falls apart. There is something called a just war and a country’s right to exist without fear is a just cause.
