I probably should have posted about this sooner, but better late than never.
My DMil had a stroke 8 years ago and had pretty much fully recovered from that. She was driving and fairly active until the last year/year & 1/2. In late August of last year, she fell and hurt her back. After that, she didn't get up and do much activity, she mostly sat in her chair and watched tv. She would do some cooking and laundry, but not much else. She didn't even come to many of DD's soccer games, something she always did. We kept telling her to get up and exercise, but she complained that she felt too bad. She had gone to the ER and her dr about her back, they said nothing was broken or strained, so there wasn't much they could do. During the fall months, she got less and less active. A couple of weeks before Christmas, she started getting a bad cough. Well, she finally went to the dr for that and she had Acute Bronchitis. She took medicine for that and got just a little better, but then on Christmas and the day after, she started having trouble breathing. Monday after Christmas, she called for a dr. appt., couldn't get one until late in the day, so she went to the ER. As soon as they took her pulse ox., they took her back and admitted her. They did several tests and thought they were looking at heart problems and fluid around the lungs. She finally got into a regular room and the next day, her BP dropped and she almost crashed! She ended up in CCU and they got her stable and she was getting better. She got moved to a step-down unit and then to a regular floor. Her lungs had cleared up, her heart was fine and BP was fine. In this middle of this, they found out she was anemic.(sp?) They were keeping her until her blood level went up, but it never did, so they did a colonoscopy this past Saturday. Well, when they went in for that, they found out that she has colon cancer! They are doing surgery this afternoon, they seem to think they can take care of it this way. (She also has galstones and they are removing her gallbladder while they are in there!)
Everyone is in pretty good spirits, my DFil is hanging in there- he is tired, but has been up w/ her everyday and she has lots of friends that have come to visit. The worst problem for her has not been able to be home. We are hoping that she will recover quickly and can get home this weekend. She was feeling so much better than she has for months, maybe even in a year. We hope that they have found this soon enough for it to be taken care of w/ this operation.
Any prayers and PD would be greatly appreciated!! She is a big Disney fan and they have been w/ us everytime we went. (Except for the honeymoon!!LOL!) She does drive me crazy sometimes, w/ typical MIL stuff, but I couldn't really ask for a better one, when I think about it. They are also wonderful grandparents. I really hope this operation will take care of things, b/c all her friends and family still want her around for years to come.
