Prawn Heads & Cupcakes & Soups, Oh My! 10/5 Complete (now with my Dining Wish List)!

Great review of SAI! Can't wait to dine there. We buy goat milk, yogurt and ice cream sometimes and it definitely tastes "goaty" but in a much more delicate way than the cheese, if that makes sense.

I'm curious about those Babycakes treats. I might have to try one. I heard some great comments on the doughnuts :)

I'm so glad you finally got to try San Angel Inn and overall had a good experience. I can't pass it by because I think it is such a beautiful place to eat.

Is Teppan Edo on your to do list soon? It is one of three Epcot TS' that I have yet to try.

After my meal at San Angel Inn, I walked over to Yacht and Beach Club. Here's the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu, as of August 16th:

It looks very good, but we were okay skipping Yachtsman this time. I'm interested in seeing if the menu will change after Yachtsman's current refurbishment.

Sad to hear that YSH didn't make its way into your "altered" Dining Plans on this trip. Oh well, at least I know that both Brenda and Vicki dined there, so I have two YSH dining reviews to look forward to soon. ;)

And regarding your SAI dessert, I do like goat cheese but I sooo would have not been expecting it to show up in that dessert. :confused3 I'm so glad that you are willing to try so many new things at WDW and then describe them to us so very well. It gives me the courage to venture out of my comfort zone occasionally and try some of the things that you have positively reviewed. Plus it greatly cuts down on the bad surprises...like the SAI dessert! :lmao:

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your babycakes treat. I'm glad there are some yummy alternatives for those who have gluten and other allergies!

I honestly can't believe that you haven't eaten at Teppan Edo yet...:confused3 My family considers that to be one of our favorite must do restaurants. I love the scallops there. Since I just started my dining report, you will be able to see our review of that and our first trip to Yachtsman Steakhouse. You should see if we still like Teppan Edo and if we enjoyed our first signature dining experience.

I have a feeling you would've liked that dessert more than I did. ;)

As for Babycakes, I haven't enjoyed everything as much as that chocolate crunch donut, but I think their snacks are definitely worth a try. Some of them are a very nice change from traditional donuts, cupcakes, and cookies. :thumbsup2

I will admit that baby cakes has never interested me, but your review makes it sound interesting.
Some of the snacks at Babycakes are really good (even ignoring the fact that they're vegan/gluten-free)! :goodvibes

SAI is definitely a beautiful place to eat, and I can tell that I'd be very happy with almost anything on the menu. :)

Teppan Edo hasn't really been on my list, although perhaps that might change soon. It would be nice to finally check off every Epcot TS restaurant (which would mean I also have to try Bistro's replacement - I guess if it's for the sake of research...:rotfl:).

Since you like goat cheese, perhaps you wouldn't have minded the 'goaty' flavor as much as I did. In fact, I'm kind of curious to try that dessert again to see if it's different this time (or if the 'goat' flavor has grown on me). :)

I'm also looking forward to the Yachtsman reviews that are coming up - I'm hoping that the food is still wonderful there. :thumbsup2

Interesting picture of the YS menu - what on earth is Hangar Steak??????????????
I've had hanger steak before, but I don't really know what it is. If it helps, Wikipedia says hanger steak resembles flank steak in texture and flavor, and that it's known as "skirt steak" in Britain. I think that entree sounds very good - it's like a tasty steak frites dish at a French restaurant. :)

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your babycakes treat. I'm glad there are some yummy alternatives for those who have gluten and other allergies!
Agreed - Babycakes seems like such a nice option for people with particular allergies or dietary restrictions (and even without those restrictions, I've still enjoyed a few things there). :goodvibes

When it comes to Teppan Edo, I've always said "it's just a hibachi restaurant, and we have cheaper ones available at home". That said, my favorite hibachi restaurant has been closed since 2007, and I've missed that type of food. :rotfl: Maybe you'll be the one to convince me I should try TE. :thumbsup2

I missed the babycakes at BC marketplace. We went in there to look around but I totally missed those otherwise I may have left with another little treat! It was interesting to read those ingredients. Pears are in both the dougnut and the topping.

Great snack break! :)

For dinner, I made my way over to Gasparilla Grill at the Grand Floridian. I've had some great salads here, and I was looking forward to getting another one.

As it turns out, Gasparilla Grill has replaced its composed salad concepts with a create-your-own salad, like what's available at AoA. For some people, this might be good news, since they can get exactly what they feel like. For me, however, this is a negative change, since the more unique salad offerings have disappeared. From the fattoush salad (a dish inspired by the Middle East containing romaine lettuce, radishes, cucumber, tomato, onion, parsley, garlic, mint, and focaccia croutons with a lemon vinaigrette) to the lobster cobb salad (with lobster, cucumber, tomato, avocado, and croutons with a ginger papaya vinaigrette), the salads here used to be very unique and flavorful.

The new protein options were chicken and 'steak' - I picked the steak. My salad also contained cucumber, tomato, pepper, broccoli, and olive.

It was fine for the most part, although the beef was relatively chewy and fatty (so I didn't finish it). Here's a picture that shows some of the beef.

Overall, I was disappointed with this dish, since the beef was mostly inedible to me, and since the flavors of this salad couldn't compare to what was once offered at Gasparilla Grill.

The redeeming factor of this meal would be the view from my outdoor table.

I also had fun observing the flock of birds that were gathering around, hoping that I would share some of my food.

It started with one.

Then a duck showed up.

Then more ducks arrived.

IMG_5288.jpg

The number kept growing - I couldn't capture all of them in a single picture.

The first duck eventually gave up and took a nap.

On a positive note, Gasparilla Grill is currently offering a variety of unique cupcakes. I didn't try any (although I seriously wanted to - they sound great :cloud9:).

It was definitely a great snack break! And agreed on the ingredients - it's fascinating seeing what kind of things they use to create a dessert, since their products exclude so many basic pastry ingredients. :thumbsup2 I wonder how much difference the pear makes in the flavor and texture?

Ha!!! Mr. DDW and the ducks and more cupcakes! I definitely see your theme! :rotfl2: I thought they were closing Gasparilla's Grill for a refurb around the time we were there? No?

I'm not sure. I read that Gasparilla Grill was going to have a major refurbishment from late August to December, but then I heard that the refurb was pushed back to January. :confused3 IMO, it needs the refurb, since the inside isn't looking great (and I'd be happy to see some menu changes as well...although the cupcakes can stay ;)).

And yes, this was definitely the biggest duck cameo of the trip! So even though I didn't love the salad, I enjoyed everything else about my visit to Gasparilla Grill.

While I like the make-your-own pasta and salad stations at POR, I don't want to see that offered across the board at all resorts. I think part of choosing the resort you want to stay at includes the unique food offerings. Taking that away makes choosing the resort less fun.

Sometimes it seems like Disney sees that something works and they make it generic enough to push it out everywhere.

Donald and the Ducks! Loved that the critters were flocking to you!

Mmmm those cupcakes at Gasparilla Grill look divine! I wouldn't have been able to choose just one. Sorry the salad wasn't great though.

Lovin the reveiws!! And the ducks and the cupcakes and....I think I need Disney food :lmao:
Im having trouble deciding if I want to do SAI, I love Mexican but DF can take it or leave it and I'm obviously trying to make sure we will all have yummy options! And that's really too bad about the salads at GG, that lobster Cobb sounds delicious, something I would definitely love!
We are planning on having a day to ourselves (no guests or DD lol) and I cannot decide on dinner, I wanted to be at a park or close so we could see one of the shows that evening, of course my original CG will be closed for refurb! Right now im thinking LeCellier. Any suggestions? (sorry if this is high jacking, I just appreciate your expertise :goodvibes:

The duck mob is adorable! Those cupcakes look divine.

Was the beef too rubbery or dried out? It's a shame it ruined the dish.

WOW does that room look beautiful @ WL!! :cloud9: SAI is a place we have always wanted to go. We had it planned then opted to switch it out for the Garden Grill. What can I say, Mickey Mouse won in the end. It's just not everyday our son is 2 & @ WDW. SAI will be pushed back yet another year. But I WILL remember to not get that dessert. :lmao:
& Thanks for the review of Gasparilla, that was on my list but now w/ the salad changes I don't see a reason to rush over. But not a big deal, process of elimination is actually a GOOD thing is my world. ::yes:

The appies at SAI looked wonderful! I love making a meal out of two appetizers as I get way too full eating an appetizer and a meal, but want to taste more things! I can not imagine why they would make cheesecake with goat cheese. :faint: I would imagine many people have been disappointed.

I am happy to hear your second good review of AOA food court! Your pictures from both your latest vacations helped me talk my daughter into eating there!! I love that they have such wonderful choices!!
