For our upcoming trip, our strategy is to hit PP at RD. Yesterday at 9:05am, we checked the wait times, and MDE said the wait for PP was 35 minutes. Huh??? Then I thought, it's Mother's Day, I bet the crowd calendars are high. Nope, they were only 6, and MK opened at 9am. What gives? The crowd calendar is showing a 7 for our day, so I'm worried.

They always bump the wait time up almost immediately for PP because the line builds so quickly. Plan to arrive to the MK by 8:20 (for a 9:00 open) so that you will be toward the front of the crowd at rope drop, then go straight to PP. There will be some people who will have a "headstart" on you because they are coming from pre-park open breakfasts, but at most you shouldn't wait more than 15 minutes at that time of the day. If you are worried about that, use a FP+ for it. The mountains have higher capacity so the wait times don't build as quickly as they do for PP. You could easily ride BTMRR and Splash or Space with little to no wait right at rope drop and then use a FP+ for PP later in the day...just depends on what your priorities are.

PP is often our first ride at MK, and I don't think we've ever had to wait when we rope-drop it. If you're towards the front of the pack right when the park opens, and can keep pace with the crowd, you shouldn't have a problem. More people split off for SDMT or A&E, so the crowd going to PP thins out. But, the line does build very fast, so if you're going to be even a little behind rope drop, you might want to FP it.

If you are worried about that, use a FP+ for it.
Our plan was to do PP, HM, and some others in that area first with no FP, and then we have FPs for BTMR, SM, and Pirates for midday. My general thought was that the wait time on MDE was wrong.

Did people actually end up waiting 35 minutes? I've seen posted wait times of 40 minutes for attractions, then waited only 10-15 minutes to ride.

I think you will be fine. On our last visit to MK we arrived a bit late for RD, about 8:35 by the time we got through the tapstiles and squeezed into some of the last remaining spaces waiting for the welcome ceremony. So we certainly weren't at the front of the pack. After being welcomed in we walked to PP and walked right on. Most to the crowd headed off to 7DMT or A&E. While PP is popular it is not the current RD favorite.

If you have a touringplans Lines app--or you can take my word for it ;)-- the wait time that first hour is often exaggerated! Except perhaps for 7DMT and A&E and sometimes even exaggerated for A&E. We walked on pretty much everything the first hour on a Saturday with the paid early morning magic.

ETA: I think TP gave MK a 6/10 and it was least recommended by Josh..

One of these days someone at the DIS is going to write a question entirely in acronyms (if it hasn't happened already).

"MK EMH RD PP DOA!"

"MCO-WDW ME OOO - WTH?"

LOL! I consider myself great at figuring them out, but I just expected Peter Pan to have on F on the end (PPF).

OP, there will probably be a long wait for PPF regardless of the time of day. Annoying, but it's a low capacity, very popular ride.

We RDed PP on Sat which was also one of the EMM days so people were already in Fantasyland. We were toward the front of the pack coming through the tunnel and our wait was 10 or 15 mins but keep in mind that 9:05 is after the full RD wave has arrived. By the time we were through at 9, it probably was a 30 min wait.
