Hi all you fellow computer people! :)
I am making a powerpoint slide show that will contain many, many, many pictures.
I have resized them all down as small as possible before allowing distortion...

They want about 100 pictures in the slide show on a 5 second loop. Is this too many pictures?
It seems to already be locking up and slowing down with only 25 pictures in it...
Anyone with experience here?

thanks!

I have a power point question too.

How can I get a different background on each page? Every time I change the background it changes it on all of the slides?

I'm not sure about the first question- it might depend on what you are saving it to. Have you placed the 25 pictures on their own cd or is it having problems running just on your computer?

As to the second, if you right click on the individual page while in edit mode and then select a background, it should make it for that page only. There is an option to apply the background to all the slides, but if you do not select it, it should work ok.

Powerpoint does have a couple limitations but it's also a function of the hardware you are running on. PP is notorius for not scaling well especially if the machine is older. If you are running XP, you can view the pics as a slideshow in XP (not PP) but you wont have text. Your option there is to add text directly to the digital photo (maybe do this as a copy of the originals?)

I know you can have different backgrounds on different slides but I dont remember how to do that.

I dont run powerpoint as much as I have to support it so that's where my experience comes from.

Oh no - we do not have XP - we are pretty basic here. It is a church :)
The pictures are on a cd, I have resized them and are placing them into a powerpoint presentation. I was just curious if anyone else has done this with so many pictures.

You'll want to copy the photos off of the cd onto the local hard drive and that might help speed it up. As I said I personally havent done this but I have had one of my clients in the past do exactly this. I think he got up around 35 pics before PP started choking. Your other option is to break it up into separate PP presentations.

I agree - I had thought of that, but it will be difficult for our presenters to flip between so many presentations. (They are volunteers:)) They already have to flip between 2 presentations and I am not sure honestly if they could handle many more (it is for a church service and has hymns, etc...)

thank you for your input -I will just have to talk with my co-workers and see what other options we may have. Maybe just a shorter presentation.

thanks!

Remember this too, PP presentations tend to run long anyway and 100 pictures with a 5 second rotation is over 8 minutes of pictures. I dont know anybody who wants to sit through 8 minutes of pics on a PP. If they go that route, tell them provide comfy chairs, turn the lights down low, and dont be disappointed with the soft sounds of snoring permeate the room!!

I know it is a long time - it is actually just supposed to be background for some people who are talking about their mission experience...the pictures are not meant to be the focal point.

If it were me (assuming the computer has the capability), I'd use a photo tool for the pictures, and not load them into powerpoint at all. Most photo tools have a slide show option, then when they want to actually talk to their brief, minimize the photo tool and pull up the already opened powerpoint slide. In fact, if you don't have the photos there, you could have the song slides at the beginning (and/or end) of the missionaries slides.
