I wrote this in an earlier thread but didnt get an answer. Couldnt find it in search, but maybe someone knows.
When I was a kid I thought that when you come up to the pirate ship in potc that the cannons really did blast out smoke and were much louder.
did they change that? b/c when I went last week and thought they were very quite and had red lights come on that were either triggering the water to splash, or supposed to look like fire. It kinda stinks that a week ago this very hour me and my wife were eating near the castle for lunch, now im at work. ugh!

I remeber when I was a kid at Disneyland that that room always seemed very foggy and loud.... it actually scared me and I thought the cannons were real :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I do also remeber the red lights though... so I am not 100% sure whether the cannons let out smoke or if that room just use to be smokier.

To me the ride does seem different but that could be just because I am older now and see it differently.

It always stinks when you have to leave Disney!!!! But I thought that it was more scarier when I was younger, but K (10) will argue up and down that when she went when she was 6 that it was the scariest ride ever. We are :earseek: talking IN THE FLOOR scared!!! :rotfl:

By the time we made it to POTC my friends son had just about had it with us. We had been to all of the 3D shows and a few dark rides with little scary parts and kept telling him it wasn't scary. He spent the whole ride clinging to his mother. He had had enough of that, from then on he didn't want to do any more.

I'm glad to hear someone else thinks so! DH and I swear that when we first went to WDW in 1987 (and unlike you, we weren't kids), the cannons were much louder. Every time we go on it now, we comment afterwards about the "wimpy" cannons, and how it sure isn't like the "good ole days". I don't know if they have changed but it sure seems so to us too.

You always have to leave room for the kid-perspective factor, like you childhood house being so much smaller than you remember....

However the other thing I always have to take into account is that my childhood memories are of Disneyland, and the POTC does have some differences between parks.
