I am sick our usuals and am trying to come up w/ one new side.

What is your favorite thanksgiving side?

I will be making:
Candied sweet potatoes (that's my I can't live w/o)
Pineapple stuffing
reg. stuffing
and this cheesy potatoe cassorole

Candied Sweet potatoes....it's like candy!

3lbs of sweet potatoes (about 9 med)
1lb box of light brown sugar
1 1/2 sticks of butter (My mom was the original Paula Deen :lmao:)
3/4 cup of light cream
1 1/2 tsp of salt

Boil potatoes in skin cut lg ones in half. Boil 30-40 mins until soft. Cool, then peel and slice into lg pieces. In large skillet, combine sugar, butter, cream, and salt. Add potatoes. Heat through, leave on for approx an hr over med heat.

How about a recipe for the pineapple stuffing? do you just add pineapple to regular stuffing? I usually add chopped apples and raisins to mine but might try this one.

Mmm... I am getting hungry for Thanksgiving now!

My favorite is probably plain ol' Stovetop Stuffing drenched in gravy with a little cranberry sauce (jellied) on top!

(That is really more like THREE sides, but whatever! ;))

It's just about impossible for me to pick "one", but if I had to, my favorite would be my stuffing..:thumbsup2

It sounds weird but it is oh so yummy...especially if you have a sweet tooth. Its not really "stuffing-like" it more like a bread pudding. Here it is:

1/4lb melted butter
1 cup of sugar
4 eggs beaten
1 22oz can of crushed pineapple
5 slices of white bread w/ crust (cubed)
ground cinnamon
ground nutmeg

Melt butter, cool slightly (make sure it isn't too hot or you will scramble the eggs). Mix butter and sugar add eggs 1/4 at a time. Stir in pineapple. Fold in bread cubes. Put into a buttered (must be butter or it will be a PAIN to clean) 2 qt round casserole dish. Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon on top. Bake uncovered @ 350 for an 1hr.

Cause of the extended cooking time (all the other sides are usually 30ish mins) I bake this in the toaster oven. Also I usually prepare this in the casserole dish I am making it in.

I love this recipe cause it's basically just a dump and go and my mom used to let me make this when i was a kid :)

Stuffing, hands down!! I also really, really like green bean casserole..but stuffing rules out.

My fav is the mashed sweet potatoes....we make them just like at Outback... SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)
Ingredients

* 4 medium sweet potatoes
* 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
* 6 tablespoons butter
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 1/4 teaspoon allspice

TOPPING

* 1 tablespoon butter
* 6 tablespoons pecans, chopped
* 1/4 cup rolled oat (not instant)
* 2 tablespoons corn flakes, crumbled
* 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions
1. Bake sweet potatoes on a baking sheet for 60-70 minutes in a preheated 400 degree oven until soft.
2. When cool enough to handle, slice each one in half and scoop out "the good stuff.".
3. Mash the potatoes using an electric mixer until smooth.
4.Mix in brown sugar, butter, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
5. To make the topping:.
6.Melt the butter.
7. Add pecans, oats and corn flakes and stir over heat for 5 minutes or until the mixture is hot. Don't let this mixture get brown!
8.Pour this mixture into a medium bowl.
9.Combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and then stir the sugar into the nuts and cereal.
10.When you are ready to serve, reheat the potatoes in a saucepan or in a microwave until hot.
11.Spoon 3/4 cup to 1 cup serving onto a plate and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of the topping.

I think people should post the recipes that go along with their favs!

Macaroni and cheese! ;) (We never make m & c but it's one of my favorite foods so I'd love it as a side for breakfast.)

I love green bean casserole and the spiced peaches that my grandma always made.

Green bean casserole & stuffing are usually the things I look forward to the most, but this year we will be at Boma so I'm looking forward to fufu!!!:cool1:

My favorite, is the stuffing. Yummy!

But if you want something different I make this its quick and easy:

White shoepeg corn (frozen 3 bags)
put in bowl in microwave with butter (1 stick unsalted cubed)and cream cheese(8oz cubed), keep heating and stirring until melted and creamy, add salt and pepper.

I made Paula Deen's Broccoli Salad last year. I loved it, so did everyone else.

I make that same broccoli salad except my recipe also has cashews and tortellini in it. It's from Allrecipes.
