Post Office missed my mistake!

I'm really cross. I paid £10 for the Post Office to check the application forms for my 2 children's passports. I received a letter today from the Passport Service asking for new forms to be filled in as I'd missed out a whole section on each form. I'm so cross I thought that was the type of mistake the PO looked for.

 Blimey - that's excellent service from the Post Office. You are going to be speaking to them, aren't you.

I think they should at least refund their £10 fee.

They have to refund the fee if they make a mess of checking the form... not sure if some compen isn't due, too?

I had this happen to!!!

They said Ds's picture was okay, but the pass port office said it was too light.
They refund the checking service amount( i phoned the post office direct), they sent me a form, you then take it with your original receipt to where you got the passsports checked, and coz they made a mistake, its a black mark against that particular post office!!.

Thanks for your replies. It's a relief to know there is a procedure in place for getting a refund - but that does point to it being a frequent problem. I'm lucky that we've not got any immediate travel plans, I was getting the passports before the October deadline to avoid needing visas next summer but the US seem to being changing their rules all the time.

What a palaver! I went back to the PO and told them of the mistake and their reply was "well we're not experts." Sorry - if they're not experts why do they charge £5 per application to "check" my form? For goodness sake I want someone to spot my mistakes not just put it in a plastic bag. It was a BIG mistake, I'd left off the parents details on both children's applications and I'd stated my son was born abroad when he wasn't.

Anyway after I got a bit loud they gave me a helpline number. I went straight home and phoned. The person on the phone asked if the Passport office had said I was entitled to a refund - I said no but I expected one.

So the man on the phone took all my details and said he'd investigate.

I got the new passports last week and now have a form which I've got to hawk back to the PO for a refund.

Needless to say I won't be using this service again.

Thanks for reading,

Libby

This is really bad, what were you paying for then? I refuse point blank to even set foot in my local post office (even though I get discount at the post shop - because DH works for Royal Mail) following the cockup they made with my last road tax. We decided only to get a 6 months as insurance, service etc. all came along at the same time so to spread things a bit 6 months it was, went along with all documents and form completed for 6 mnths. and chq for right amount etc and got tax disc., I even commented to the happy soul that was serving me what a lovely colour it was, all lilac and gold, and thought no more of it. Until 2 days later I got a hand written letter (not on headed paper) from the lady! who sold me the tax disc telling me that there was something wrong with it and that I was to return to the post office with it immediatley. So I went out to the car to check it and she had issued me with a 12 month disc, feeling for the lady incase she had to make up the money I returned it the next day. Well all this palaver, the holder wouldnot stick to the window, so I asked to speak to the manager, and a lady who told me she wase the manager but infact was the deputy manager came and spoke to me, I told her that this was bad and that I had bought the disc back in good faith but I felt that the letter should have been official etc. etc. as it could have been from anyone, and I had now left my car, in the local car park with no tax disc, to return it, she gave a vague reply no real apology and I got the correct disc. She did agree however that if I had not returned it there was nothing they could do. So off I go with my new tax disc in hand, over to the post shop to buy a new holder, serving at the shop was a man that I know only in passing to say hello to as he knows DH works for the RM, I asked for a new disc holder telling him that because i had to keep taking it out the thing would not stick anymore and he replied ' Oh! you're the lady that lives in ******* road, you took the wrong tax disc! I was going to come and knock on your door' well as you can imagine I went mad, not only had he made me feel like a criminal in front of everyone else there ( he did not say it quietly) but the fact that my personal details had been banded about among the staff etc. I was so enraged there was no calming me, I managaed to speak to the real manager this time telling her what a disgrace the branch was, and what a breach of confidentiality had occured, she agreed but could not see why I was so angry. If they discussed all my details over a cup of tea ( he knew my full address, the car I drove and its registration etc.) then what other information did they discuss, how much money people had in there savings account. I will say that the manager did offer to refund the money for the licence, but I refused and have taken the matter further and they are being investigated by head office for malpractice! - so you see I will no longer take my business there I drive 3/4 miles to next post office and double check everything carefully, and wo-betide the next post office employee that crosses me!

Wow Snookhams I don't blame you for being angry. I alway's feel that the people at the Post Office are doing you a favour, they haven't got a clue what customer service is!!

I post a lot of parcels and you should see the look on there face. It is like I was asking them to go to the moon!!

Libby...I really hope you get your refund OK...what shocking service!

Libby sorry to hear this. Something similar happened to my SIL when she applied for a passport for my nephew - PO checked it and all was alright she paid the money for the checking service - BUT they missed the fact that Ashley had been born in Germany (Forces baby) and this meant that the form had to be re-done or something and so it got sent back to my SIL

hi,i am also having to get new passports fo my two sons, if you go onto the passport agency website you can enter your details they then send you a form already filled out outlinning any mistakes for you to put right, all i had to do was fill in the details of the person signing there photos and send it back didnt cost me any more to do this, might help save some money by not going to the post office susie

:D

I got my £10 back today! There was no problem but the lady there said she'd never seen a refund form before - she was the person who told me I needed one in the first place so I'm very doubtful about that.

Anyway all's OK now. I just need to save up for Florida next summer and hope the US don't change their entry requirements too much in the mean time.
