Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

I've had the lowest tier card for years so I think I may do this. Will I lose any points already associated with this card (only around 11,000 points at the moment)? I would like to get the 100,000 bonus points if I could.
The points are associated with your RR account, not your card. They are yours to keep once awarded.

When did your last annual fee hit? Ideally, you want to time this for within 30 days of a new annual fee hitting so that you get another set of anniversary points but you don't have to pay the new year's annual fee. (If points and fee hit 6/1, you can call to cancel by 6/30 and they refund that fee.) But, this offer isn't going to be around forever, so I would prioritize that bonus ahead of timing the cancellation.

If DH has the Priority card and I’m an authorized user, would I still be eligible for the 100,000 point bonus offer if I sign up for a new card?

Thank you! That makes sense.

So I should probably go ahead and cancel since there's no guarantee this will even be available by next April?

I do, but he doesn't fly! So when I book flights he'd never be on and to my understanding, the cardholder has to be on the flight for the perks?
Yes, you're correct. You need to be the cardholder.

And, yes, you for sure don't want to wait until April.

Anyone know if they do a prorated refund for this situation? I know folks have gotten prorated refunds on the Sapphire family but I don't know if it's all Chase cards.

I believe prorated refunds are only done for PCs not for closures. That's how AMEX does it also.

Does anyone have a link for how to search for the European flights through Southwest (on Icelandic Air)? I started to play around with dates, prices, etc a few days ago but got distracted. Now I cannot find the email I used, and I can’t find any way to get there through the app or website.

I'm doing some research on Southwest credit cards and came across the answer to a question I asked a month ago:
If you open a SW credit card for the free first checked bag, are you charged $35 or $45 for the second checked bag?

That received a couple of replies:
My experience with Delta and American is they charge $45 for the second bag when there is one free bag for those who have a credit card
Reports are $35. SW is treating the $35 charge as the first bag you pay for.

For cardmembers, the first checked bag is free and the second checked bag will be $45 😢. Interestingly, for A-List members, the first checked bag is free and the second checked bag will be $35 for up to eight (8) additional Passengers on the same reservation.

Question....

If I have a free checked bag (28") and I check it before I head to the gate....then, let's say I arrive at the gate with my rolling carry-on (20") and my backpack....and my purse. Normally, I would cram my purse into my carry-on to condense into my allowable baggage, but would they allow me to gate-check my 20" bag at no additional charge?? It seems like this would be a way to skirt around paying for an additional checked bag, right?

ETA: I do not *need* to check the 20" bag. I would only do it as a courtesy to other passengers to conserve bin space. I always feel conflicted about my "carry-on" suitcase when I have a non-stop flight. I do not like to drag it with me through the airport and on the plane because I never need anything in it during the flight. On the other hand, I do not really want to pay $45 for the convenience of checking it when it is completely within carry-on size limits. I will happily part with it at the gate if they are going to check it at no charge. That means I can put my small backpack in the overhead and my little purse under the seat in front of me. Heck, I could put the backpack AND the purse under the seat if they allow it.

I would be shocked if they didn't. I've used that trick regularly when coming home from business trips. I'll let them check my carryon through, put my backpack in the overhead and have a small bag with essentials at my feet.

It’s been a while since I gate checked (a stroller), but my experience is that it’s not going with the regular checked bags under the plane but with things that go in a different area. So you don’t leave your item until you are stepping onto the plane - it went in that little circular area right by the wheelchairs. And then you have to wait in that same area when you land for someone to unload the gate checked items. And it’s not always a speedy process. Personally, I’d rather find a way to have the carryon suitcase and a 1 personal item rather than gate checking anything, but I am also that person who likes to deplane and find the rest room and move around after sitting on a flight, haha.

This might be an odd question, but I'm wondering if anyone knows. Our RR points are running on the lower side. The SW card holder in our family also holds the points. Will I be able to book one ticket on points and another with cash on the same reservation? I don't think I want to do a separate reservation and not get the checked bag free since I'm not the card holder. Previously, this was a non-issue when bags were free and I could just get EBs on both flights. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks.

If the SW card holder is going it doesn't matter if they buy the flights with points or cash you you do. The only thing that matters is that the Primary card holder be on the reservation(s) and then 8 people plus the card holder would get 1 bag for free.

Generally, on mainline planes (737 and larger), there are two different types of checks, valet checks, what you are describing above and what happens with car seats, wheelchairs etc, and actual gate checks where the bag is sent to baggage claim. The second is almost invariably what happens when you check a carryon bag at the gate. I've never picked up a gate checked carryon on the jetbridge for anything other than small regional jets.

They do have a Cash Plus Points redemption option but, apparently, the conversion rate they offer is terrible.

The cardholder doesn't happen to have another Chase card (a Sapphire, Ink Business Preferred) that allows for transfers of UR to SW, do they?
