How does use year and home resort work into the equation for rented points?

Let’s take use year first. If I have a February use year and I rent points from a member who has a May use year. My banking deadlines is September 30th and the rented points have a banking deadline of December 31. Does this mean I have three months longer to bank those rented points if I were to cancel the reservation in which they were used?

Now for the home resort question. If the rented points are from a home resort other than mine, can I use those points (along with what I have in my original account) to making a reservation at my home resort at the eleven month window or will I have to wait until the seven month window?

As a possible renter of only a few points, I want to make sure of the consequences’ if I rent point that don’t mesh with my home resort point reservation and holding guidelines.
:confused3

You are talking about a transfer of points. Renting a reservation from another member means they are setting up the reservation for you and you wouldn't be controlling the reservation or banking those points used to make the reservation, etc.

The member who has the points would have to transfer them to you. Each member is allowed only one transfer during their Use Year - either points into their account or points out, NOT BOTH. So if you have points transferred in from a member be sure you get the amount you need because you will not be able to have another transfer during that particular Use Year.

Transferred points retain their Use Year so they must be banked by end of
8th month of that Use Year but MS has been known to allow transferred points to be banked beyond their banking deadline.

Transferred points retain their own Home Resort and Use Year. So you can't combine them with your Home Resort's points to book at 11 month window if the member who transfers points to you has a different Home Resort - then those transferred points can only make a reservation at your Home Resort at 7 month window.

If I have a current reservation which is within six months and I would like to make a second reservation eleven months out, can I put the new transferred points into that reservation and then use the freed up points for the new reservation eleven months out?

You can use transferred in points for the existing reservation, but only if there is no wait list for those nights. Essentially, to use them, you need to cancel the current reservation and rebook using the new points. -- Suzanne

Does this mean that if I receive a transfer of, say BCV points, then I can make a reservation at BCV with those points at the 11-month mark, even though I only own at AKV?:confused3

yes.

LisaS likes the metaphor of currency: if you buy a BCV add-on or transfer in BCV pts, you can "spend" those (and only those) BCV pts to book BCV at 11 months.

always remember that the home resort window for a given resort is attached to that home resort's points.
