Possible new job in Tampa -- need help!

Thanks guys. We were just really looking forward to a complete change. He was so sure he'd get the offer, but I guess we can understand them offering the job to someone local. Whatever is meant to be, will be.

one of my DH's uncles and his wife live in wesley chapel, and they LOVE it there. now, bear in mind, they're in their early 70s and live in a sort of retirement housing development, but it is very nice and they love the area. they moved there several years ago from the east coast of FL, after DH's uncle retired from NASA, so if they'd leave the beach, it must be a nice place, lol. GOOD LUCK to your DH!

Also have friends in Wesley Chapel. They're originally from Chicago. They love it there, as do his parents.

ETA: sorry, didn't see your post that DH didn't get the job. Don't be too upset. There is another, better one, out there somewhere. I speak from experience.

That is really too bad. I was kinda looking forward to having you closer for more frequent meet ups at WDW.:sad1:

ATTN: LAKELAND PEOPLE!!

A job offer has been made and we are headed back down to Lakeland this Sunday for 3 days to try to find somewhere to live. Looking for suggestions as to specific areas again -- to look and to STAY AWAY FROM. Also looking for suggestions on places to eat (cheap/reasonable) and things to see (want to see Hollis Garden). We'll be staying at the LaQuinta by the Cracker Barrel.

Sorry, I don't know the Lakeland area so I can't offer advice but just wanted to offer a CONGRATS!!! :cool1: See how everything happens for a reason?!?!? :yay:

Neighborhoods on the south end near Hallam, Scott Lake are pretty good areas. Be careful around western Memorial Dr. (Hwy 92).

Hollis Garden is really pretty. Near there is the Texas Cattle Company, a really good steakhouse. Within walking distance into downtown is Harry's, a New Orleans themed restaurant...Palace Pizza is a good casual pizza place. If you go one exit west from where you're staying, you'll hit Lakeland Square Mall with several chain restaurants (Olive Garden, Red Lobster). If you Mapquest Lakeside Village, there are plenty of chain restaurants (Chili's, Macaroni Grill, Mimi's Cafe, Longhorn Steakhouse, Grillsmith) along with a large movie theater and other shopping. Lakeside Village is the newest shopping district in Lakeland; it's south of where you're staying.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that! Last time we ate at Cracker Barrel -- since we were looking in the North Lakeland area -- and at the food court in the mall. Will check out the other areas as well.

Looking forward to exploring more!

Well, we'll see. This job is at the same place, but 3rd shift instead of 1st and same pay.

Just remember, the commute is the thing...and being the job is in Tampa, you want easy I-4 access. There is the Polk Parkway, but that can get $$ when used daily. The area you were looking at before I think is PERFECT! Is that offer still on the table?

Same company, different position. The other one went to a local. We really liked the area we looked at. Just want to be sure to explore all options. Of the houses we saw last time 2 of the 4 are still active. We'll see what happens!

That is awesome there is another job offer! The northside isn't as nice as southside but we are suppose to be getting a Lakeside Village type open mall on northside. Better dinning options hopefully. Where you are at there is Bob Evans, Steak N Shake, Olive Garden, Panera, Outback, Chilis and tons of fast food around. Good luck hope everything works out. You are gonna be here during some great weather!

Thanks. You may be hearing from me next week! Last time we looked in the 33809 area -- Hunters Run, Sherwood Forest, over in that vicinity.

Lived here in Lakeland for over 30yrs. Those areas are nice. Rural areas. North side is more country and southside more ritzy. Hubby commutes to Tampa everyday. Takes about 40min or more.

LOL. Yeah...we aren't really looking for ritzy. We liked the laid back, less planned out feeling in the north. We did the commute when he went for the interview. Figured even if it was DOUBLE what it took us (I think about 35 min), it's still way shorter than his current commute.

We just don't want to end up in a seedy area by accident. I may PM you as well, if that's okay!

Yeah no problem. Right now is a time to buy. Heck homes in our neighborhood are going for 40grand. Brick homes which doesn't make me happy but its a great time for home buyers. I understand about not wanting to end up in seedy part. Definatley stay away from Memorial. I don't drive that road unless I absolutley have to.

Thanks. I just did another realtor.com search and saw some really inexpensive houses -- good size houses -- on an acre or more for ridiculously low prices. It's amazing. I'm really looking forward to the trip!

Yeah you can probably get great deals. Glad you have another shot down here. Hope everything works out!

Those are nice neighborhoods..we had some friends that lived in the Hunter's Run neighborhood. Plus the interstate isn't far, so it makes the commute easier.

We're back. Put an offer in while we were down in FL and waiting to see if it all pulls together.

While we were in Lakeland we checked out Lake Mirror, Lake Hollingsworth, Lake Morton and the swans, Munn Park, Lakeside Village, the mall, a furniture store, Smokey Bones, Palace Pizza, a Walmart on the southside, the GoodWill Store (DH dragged me in -- he loves a deal), etc.

I think we'll be really happy there, if all works out!
