I'm thinking of getting my DH a portable XM receiver for Valentine's Day. Something that could be used in the car and brought into the house.

We have XM radio in our new van, and we like it a lot.

Do any of you have the portable devices? Delphi makes a MyFi XM2GO, which looks neat. The reviews seemed good from Amazon and with the rebate it's only $110. Anything I should know about these things? Brands that or better or ones to avoid?

Thanks!

DH has Roady2 and loves it but it is just for the car unless you buy an adapter. He paid about $30 and i has XM. The sound is really good and I've not noticed any reception problems.

Is Delphi XM or Sirrus (sp?).

He suggests that you make your decision based on the programming available (which one has the programs that you want) and how you want to use it (just in the car or elsewhere, too).

Great idea!

I have the Delphi XM MyFi/XM2Go. I love it. It comes with the car and home setup. I purchased a short wire antenna to use when walking. It can record up to five hours of programming if you'll be unable to pick up a signal (used it for walking before getting the extra antenna). I also use the record feature to capture the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio and listen to it later. Dan is so smooth.

Reception is great. I know there are terrestrial transmitters in our area - there are in most larger cities.

I've also used the Roady2. I think they are being phased out and can be found for $30. You'd have to purchase the home kit separately, about $35.

Good luck.

XM MyFi here, enjoy it a lot. I have recorded 5 hours to use on airplane flights. It comes with EVERYTHING you need.

Ronda, what wire antenna do you use for walking?

Claudia1, The Delphi that I'm looking at is XM--the same that Ronda93 has. We'd go with XM since we have it on our new van and would get a reduction off the monthly fee for the 2nd unit and it has some things my DH likes, ie MLB.

Ronda93, I saw a set of headphones that had an antenna built in. I was thinking just home and car, but it's neat that it can be used when walking. I think my DH would like that.

That 5 hour feature is great--I wish my van had that ability and it's something that my DH and I have talked about so I know he would like that.

I have a Delphi XM SkyFi2 and the audio system that goes with it. I use it in my car and then pop it out of the car and into the system for my shop and house. I love it!!!

That looks a lot like the MyFi, but without the ability to walk around with it. That's what I figured we'd be getting since I didn't even know there was something a person can walk around with.

From what I have heard, any of the portable ones are good if you get the extra antenna. Otherwise they have a problem of losing reception when you are carrying it.

That would be very nice to have except we have accumulated 3 portable music devives (1 iPod and 2 creative devices). I have somehow be moved into the age of technology! LOL

Good luck with whatever you get!!

I decided to mention my gift idea to my DH--didn't want to purchase that unless he really wanted it. He liked the idea, researched a little, and decided on the MyFi, which he ordered last night. Thanks for the help--I'll let you know how he likes it after it arrives.

He will like it. :thumbsup2

I think so, too. Of course he's feeling guilty since he didn't plan any good Valentine's Day present for me. :lmao: Guilt is a good thing, right? But a cheap, strange date--all I want is to order a bunch of Dutch licorice for myself. Yep, I'm strange.
