Hey guys, maybe you saw my post on fear of flying. I was thinking about it and thought maybe I should invest in buying a portable dvd player. Are they allowed on the plane?
I bought one @ Wal-mart in April. I love my portable dvd player. I took it on the plane in April and have had it in my car since for the kids. Mine came with a case so I can hang it on the back of the seat in my van. Also it came with 1 earphone jack and 1 headphone. I went to Radio Shack and got a 3 way splitter and bought 2 more headphones. Now 3 people can hear the movie as well. They also have 2 way splitters.
We love our DVD player. We won't take a long flight without it. Combine getting one with signing up for Netflix and you can watch a movie or two, send the DVD's back from any post office, and have new movies to watch when you get back home.

DJ, you can rent them. I saw a place in Orlando in April. I think it was about 12 bucks/day or something like that. I don't know exactly how the plan worked though.
I will also suggest a pair of noise filtering head phones. Depending on whre you are on a plane, engine noise can overpower the sound in you head phones. These are expensive, but my last flight I could barely hear my dvd. I got a really good pair from Maxell at Best Buy. They also work great to reduce car noise if watching on the road.
Remember the slogan for American Express Traveler's Checks-Don't Leave Home Without Them!? Well, that is our motto for the portable DVD player, either on a plane or a long car trip. We have had ours for about 3 years now, I wanted a built in one for our SUV, but DH wanted to be able to keep it after selling the car. He had that right. The portable works great strapped to the console of the car, and the kids can watch it on the plane-or more importantly in the airport with a long layover. And they are so cheap right now, I would definitely consider it if I was going to be afraid of flying...When DH goes on business trips, he uses his laptop to watch movies-nice big screen...

The last time we went to WDW there were 2 little girls sitting a row ahead of us that had a DVD player and their parents put a movie in and they were entertained the entire flight. They barely moved ~ they must have loved the movie!
