Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

I didn't know that most assesable rooms were in the ab section. I just assumed that they were in the mansons. I only say this because so many people request the ab section due to the fact it sleeps five and we have no need for that (party of three)

I didn't say that. There are accessible rooms in all areas of the resort (there have to be to comply with ADA guidelines).

What I did say was that the wheelchair accessible rooms in the AB buildings are all on the ground floor, as there are no elevators in AB. In the mansions on the other hand, some wheelchair accessible rooms can be on upper floors, near to the elevators. See my floorplan layouts for full details, as every room is individually listed (there are 17 wheelchair accessible rooms in AB, 34 in the mansions).

However because of the layout changes required, there are no fold-down murphy beds in the roll-in shower or wheelchair-accessible tub rooms, nor are there any connecting doors. There is one special option which allows for five people in a wheelchair party though, but you'd need to discuss that requirement directly with Disney.

It's finally here!

I'm leaving work at 3 and headed down. We are staying on the way down and then we'll be there tomorrow afternoon.

I wanted to say thanks again to everybody here for all of their advice and tips. :thumbsup2

Especially, thanks to Andre and venom for all of your great information and taking the time to answer the same questions from us 8, 10, or 300 times.

Also, venom, know that we are praying for your FIL and family.

I will report in anytime I get the chance next week and when I get back with how things are working with MB, FP+, RF, etc.

I am looking for advice:

I wasn't going to online check in or fax my request as it is already on the reservation. BUT am now rethinking that maybe I should since it is becoming more frequent that people posting here have done this.

My only requests are:

a) we would like a room in the Acadian House near the North Depot
(this is already on the room reservation request)

and

b) we would like for our two back to back reservations to remain in the same room, if possible.
(was going to check in at the counter and do this request in person)

So, now I am thinking I should either online and/or fax my request so that they are aware ahead of time.

Can anyone tell me more information about the coffee makers in the room? I'm trying to decide if I should bring some extra pods with me from home for my morning tea. I don't use these types of coffee makers as I use a kettle at home so how much liquid does one pod make?

If you already have made requests when booking the package over the phone and they are already attached to your reservation should you still do online check in? Will that some how override the prior requests?

They make an almost full cup that is provided in the room. Styrofoam cup. There is a fill line in the coffee maker.

Anyone have updates on refrigerators?

See first post. When I know more I'll update it.

Yes you can still do online checkin. Some people suggest not ticking any of the option boxes in case that erases your previously noted requests, but according to resort staff that does not happen - they still see the notes as well as the ticked choices. Of course if they conflict, I guess they'd go with the ticks as those would be the most recent?

Any faxes should be sent AFTER doing online checkin though, especially if there's something you want to make sure gets through in your own words rather than translated by the DRC staff - e.g. mentioning those back-to-back reservations and that you'd like to remain in the same room (they get that happening quite a lot in fact).

Did you see that post outside of this thread the other day, indicating that there's at least one room in building 34 that has a big combined bathroom (no separately vanity area) but doesn't otherwise seem to be HA?

Ah, she updated the thread, and it was that one room with "features". :)

I think that when Andre said "Most are (and ALL of them in the Alligator Bayou section, which has no elevators)" he was referring to most HA rooms being *on the first floor*, and ALL of the fully HA rooms in the Bayou are on the first floor. Though as his maps show there are rooms with accessible features that aren't on the first floor in the Bayou (or at least one).

We have booked a RGR-River View. For those who have stayed at POR before, if you were in a RGR-River View room, would you request a specific area, floor or mansion? Are there any benefits to one section over the other? I have looked at the maps and I can't quite figure out if I should bother putting in any sort of request. The only thing I was thinking was a top floor (maybe less foot traffic in front of the room) or a corner room.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Will you have a car? Would you like to overlook the gardens and fountain, as well as the river? Would you like to be close to the bridge?

Thanks Andre!

Called Disney today to confirm flight details for Magic Express (totally forgot to do this when booking!), did online check in about a month ago and sent fax today. All I'm looking for is second or third floor room so fingers crossed!

I was in work today thinking that it is so long before I go but this time next week I will be flying. Then will be able to finally try Key Lime Pie and Dole Whips! :cool1:

We are on the first floor of building 14. we rarely have foot traffic-just immediate neighbours. the rooms seem very sound proof-don't hear neighbours or the people above. Very funny that we can hear the fireworks-either at 9 or 10 when ever wishes is.

Thank you!
Sorry to repeat the questions but appreciate your wealth of knowledge and advice!

Will do my online check in now and then send a fax - ha ha maybe I can send the fax from the Contemporary before we go on DCL (that would be about 5 days before check in).

Thanks again!:thumbsup2

My husband is diabetic and we will need a refrigerator to store insulin. Do we need to fax the request or is it enough to ask at the desk when we check in?

Andre, any word on the availability of MBs and FP+ for November arrivals? If not, what is your best guess as to whether they will be offered?

I would let them know in advance so they can try to arrange for your room to have a fridge. At the moment they are still only at 40%-50% of rooms with working fridges, and they move them around too.

Nothing official as yet. What I've heard from my contacts within the resort is that they still hope that this test period will roll seamlessly into mainstream use at the end of October. But equally the DIS MagicBands thread is saying that someone on the IT Helpdesk phone line was saying that all testing will stop at the end of October and start again in January. Personally, I trust my contacts - however it's also possible that the IT people have since found some issues which will need some downtime to resolve. In short, time will tell...
