Just added another night to our trip in 2 weeks, and was able to add another park day. But had to give up my preferred room. Someone tell me I won't regret this. Got a garden room, and another park day and broke even on price. So someone make me feel better about not having a preferred room.

I had a preferred room before the discount came out, which wasn't available for preferred rooms, so I got a garden view like you did. I haven't been yet (28 days!), but you'll be in Disney World - you're gonna have an amazing time regardless of where your resort room is! Don't stress about it :goodvibes

This forum can obsess about senseless details. One might be led to believe that a trip will be ruined without a certain building, view, a 20 minute bus ride, or the wrong brand of ketchup in the food court!

IMHO a garden view room will be absolutely beautiful, and an extra day will be priceless! You may need to walk an extra few minutes to the food court or main pool, but what a beautiful walk it will be! Perhaps you will be closer to a quiet pool, and discover that you enjoy it too. The grounds at POR are spectacular, so soak it all in. Enjoy, have fun, and try not to worry about the little things. If you are travelling with little children, enjoy every moment. Once they grow up and they are gone you may miss them terribly (as I miss my "little" girl who is off playing house with a boyfriend we have never met), and you will treasure the memories.

I love this! We stress so much that we sometimes forget to enjoy it! I just want my babies to have fun and enjoy their first Disney trip :)

So well said! :thumbsup2

Was just looking at the allears webpage and it mentions a butterfly garden behind Acadia House. Is this a tented one or just a garden that'll attract butterflies? Either way, I sense an afternoon of sitting and relaxing there!

Yup, absolutely !!!!

One of my pet peeves is actually people who complain about "Oh it was a 15 Minute walk from my resort to the main building/bus/whatever" .... seriously ? A 15 minute walk ? a) unless you are the slowest walker in the world, or are walking from POR to CSR ... its not a 15 minute walk :P b) A 15 minute walk is hardly the worst thing in the world, especially at a disney resort/park .... c) YUR AT DISNEY !!!
(none of this applies if you have a medical condition, requested a closer room and didn't get :) )

Lol ... first world privileged problems ... Just enjoy your self, its disney, if these are the things that mess you up, I'd hate to see you deal with real issues.

Agreed agreed. And with all the delicious things to be eaten at Disney, a 15 minute walk is not so bad for you =) A wait at the bus stop for me is time to touch up my nails (and I will sit there... away from people so as to not bother them with the smell, because I can't meet a princess without polished nails of course). A "bad" view is motivation to get out of the room and enjoy the full property. It's just a matter of how you spin it!

And to the OP, I would take one more day of Disney and the parks over a slightly nicer room any day.

I have searched this thread for info, but I can't find anything. I know you can get bedrails, and I saw a few posts on that, but do they work on the murphy bed??

Yes, apparently you can use bedrails with the Murphy beds (you need to remove them to fold the bed away during the daytime of course).

Hey all. We check in less than 2 weeks from now. Question is.... What are POR experts' thoughts on online check-in? Does it really expedite the process?

Yes it generally does. Even if the online checkin queue might seem as long as the regular queue sometimes, don't forget there is very little that needs to be done for each guest so it moves a good deal faster. See my post yesterday (#1905) on the subject.

Just request a room fairly close to the main building, you'll be fine. You can always ask to be moved at checkin if you feel the walk is going to be too much for you. But unless you are right out on the outer edges of the resort, the walks really aren't too bad.

Well said! I think this needs framing and put in pride of place at the top of every page on the site. I do sometimes make this point when people are obsessing down to requesting a specific room number, but it carries on anyway. For the record by the way, the maximum walk from any guest room in the resort to the food court is just over 500 yards, or a 6-7 minute walk (or roughly the distance from Space Mountain to the Dole Whip counter at the entrance to Adventureland to put it into perspective). And it's a very pretty walk anyway.

Was just looking at the allears webpage and it mentions a butterfly garden behind Acadia House. Is this a tented one or just a garden that'll attract butterflies?

It was just an area with specific plant types that attract butterflies, but it has not been maintained for that purpose for many years and no-one even seems to know exactly where it was now (apart from it being by Acadian House). If anyone can specifically track it down for some pics though, I'd love to know.

My family and I will be staying at POR 5/13 - 5/17! Staying in a royal room for our little princess :). What rooms are recommended we booked the river view?

I would just request a room facing the river, decide if you want ground floor, or an upper floor. This opens up a larger chance of getting what you want. You might want to ask for a specific building though. Good Luck.

How much of a hold do they charge your credit card when checking in?

Thanks Experts

$0.00
The moderates have a $1000 limit to charge back to the room. Once you hit that limit your card will be charged.

Thanks Andre...I knew you would know! Of course, I can always put him in a velcro suit so he sticks to the bed :rotfl2:

If River View is already booked, no need to request it again.

I'd agree that choosing upper or lower floor might be an idea (upper to reduce potential noise, or lower if you've got strollers or mobility issues to consider). Most of the Royal river view rooms are fairly well located for access to the main buildings so you probably don't need to request that, but it's up to you of course, some people like the ones closest to the bridge over to the main building.

How much of a hold do they charge your credit card when checking in?

They will take the full balance remaining for your room booking for the whole stay when you arrive, but any extras that you charge (meals, shopping, etc) won't be deducted from your credit card until the day you leave (or when you hit the $1000 credit limit, if that happens first).

In no way do I think the trip will be ruined trust me:thumbsup2 I think the extra day will be worth even if they put us in 37 like last time. I would have never did it if I thought it would ruin it. I figure if we get a far room, I will just be less tempted to go get that extra snack at night;) Just always nervous when I make a change- dont know why I second guessed it last night.....I run ever day, so its not like extra walking is a big deal. And trust me with oldest DD at 16 now, I know the time is coming when she wont be going with us anymore:sad1:

It's $1000 per DAY, correct?

Ok, I'm booked preferred for October. If there's a room discount and I can't keep preferred, what are the chances of getting AB if requested? Is there a way to guarantee AB? I understand regardless ill be in POR but I just don't like the mansion areas. Thanks :)

No, you can spend until you hit a $1,000 unpaid balance, then they will have to charge it to your credit card before you can spend any more.

Is there a way to guarantee AB?

The only way to guarantee AB is to book Preferred. Otherwise it's up to whether your request gets fulfilled (which hopefully it will, but it's not a guarantee).

I assumed a river view room meant river facing? Am I wrong?
