Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

Wow - I really like the look of the refurbed AB rooms. We haven't stayed at POR before (just POFQ), but I never liked the AB room look, would have only wanted the Mansions. But now, AB is adorable! I love the alligator pillow and all the other details!

We do not usually unpack - DH and I spent several years working/living in hotels out of suitcases. So we've got it down - packing things into outfits in the order we need. However, on our most recent trip, I did unpack because we had too many different items - running attire for the half marathon, costumes for MNSSHP, bathing suits, DD stayed in Grandma's room one night - so separated some of her stuff, etc.

We are almost to double digits, too!

We are planning to stay at POR over Christmas, have never stayed there so looking forward to it! We were thinking about bringing our bikes and biking over to POFQ sometimes to eat. Does anybody know if there are bike racks to park our bikes around the resort? (we would bring our own locks ) thanks!

Yes, the first Royal Room building is due to open on February 17. Basically, if Disney allow you to book one, you should get one.

You can cycle between the two Port Orleans resorts, but not along the main roads to parks/DTD/etc. Long ago, POFQ used to do its own cycle and boat rentals, and there are still some cycle racks down near the old second dock area (at the end of building 5) but I'm not sure how Disney would react to finding other people's bikes locked up there. Probably best to let them know.

I wonder if that old kiosk is ever used for anything these days?

Am I reading this to mean they no longer have the bike rentals? I know when we stayed there in 92 & 93 DH and DS rented bikes and enjoyed riding around the resort.

Since they merged as sister resorts, all the services were transferred over to POR at the marina. You have to go over to POR to get them.

They refer to it as "the hub."

Standard room view question. IN the description it doesn't talk about parking lot views. So I talked to someone via the chat option on the WDW site. She agreed that other resorts talked about parking lot views and POR did not and said that therefore the view would be building or landscape. I've just seen a post where someone talks about a parking lot view from her room at POR. So I guess the CM I spoke to was wrong? Can one of you who have stayed at POR numerous times confirm that contrary to what I was told, standard room could very well equal a parking lot or dumpster view?

I'm staying at port orleans with my partner, it's our first holiday together, I want it to be as romantic as possible!! Which rooms are better magnolia or bayou?

I just stayed at POR one time (back in Sept), I booked standard but ended up in 14 anyway... which is considered preferred.. We were directly off the parking lot and could keep an eye on our vehicle (I actually preferred this).. however... even though we had a so-called parking lot view... we still saw some of the lush landscaping as it is almost everywhere.
