Since there is so much vegetation (and water) at Port Orleans Riverside, is there a lot of mosquito activity? Does it vary between summer and winter months?

I don't really know when your planning on going. But we have been down there from Feb to about April and never saw a single Skitter.

Standard room view question. IN the description it doesn't talk about parking lot views. Can one of you who have stayed at POR numerous times confirm that contrary to what I was told, standard room could very well equal a parking lot or dumpster view?

It could do, yes. But not necessarily of course.

It's more that Garden View rooms will assure you that you DON'T get a parking lot view, not that Standard Rooms in any way guarantee that you do. Many views facing towards parking lots do have a lot of vegetation/etc anyway.

We just returned from our first trip to POR! I can tell you that as of two days ago, it seemed like the mosquitoes were out in full force. We were in the AB section and as soon as I walked out of our room to the lobby I had about 5 bites on each leg.:eek: I am not sure if it was just because of our location... lots of vegetation and water that they seemed bad.

We will be there on Friday and ninja sleuth dd will have her dslr with her!

Hope you got to POR OK and are having a great time.

Good luck to Ninja Sleuth Stealth DD, I'd love to see any DSLR photos that she can get of the little details in the new AB rooms (asking mousekeeping if you can look inside a room that they've just cleaned between guests might be an idea). Also, it'd be great to see a pic of the layout of a King Room (what is the storage arrangement for example, and have they opted to include the pulldown bed this time?) if her ninja sleuthing talents are up to it! :)

Standard room view question. IN the description it doesn't talk about parking lot views. So I talked to someone via the chat option on the WDW site. She agreed that other resorts talked about parking lot views and POR did not and said that therefore the view would be building or landscape. I've just seen a post where someone talks about a parking lot view from her room at POR. So I guess the CM I spoke to was wrong? Can one of you who have stayed at POR numerous times confirm that contrary to what I was told, standard room could very well equal a parking lot or dumpster view?

I had a standard room a couple of weeks ago and here is my view from room 8222.

Lovely. Our view from the room last December wasn't much better...but it was very close to a bus stop.
As far as skeeter...nary a one last mid-December.

From how she described her, we will probably get some amazing shots. When it gets closer to our time, people will have to give me a list of what they want shots of. So I can cover everyone's ?s.

Hi All, I know this is the POR thread, but thinking there may be some experts in both POR and POFQ. Any opinions on which resort might be more fun for teen-aged boys? We're hoping to take my son and a couple of his friends for a high school graduation present in June. Thanks for any input.

Just got a brand new building 37 room!!!

Woot! More photos soon then? :)

They are obviously running very well to schedule, 37 was due for completion yesterday. Next, building 38 is due on 12 Dec and 39 is due on 16 Dec by the way.

Yes as soon as I get back home which is next Saturday. I have to get a new memory card too because I left mine at home lol.

I do not like the Royal Rooms, but I like the regular refurbed Magnolia Bend rooms with Tiana and Naveen on the headboards, and love, love, love the new Alligator Bayou rooms! :cool1:

I must confess I like the new breakdown on prices. Not sure it's a good thing for Disney to inconvenience its loyal customers (those who're "onsite all the time, good view is a great surprise bonus") in order to cater to the persnickety (who are happy to stay offsite unless Disney specifically woos them), but as one of the persnickety I appreciate being able to improve the odds of getting a pretty good view. :rolleyes1

Last September we were given a renovated room in the mansions and asked to be moved to AB. We were switched to AB bldg 27.... and were happy as we find AB so green and shady ( a wonderful change from the Texas wildfires and drought)

We would live to have Queen Beds but I think the new rooms look more like a baggage car of a train than a Bayou cottage.
I am thinking of maybe upgrading to WL to get the rustic, cool and shady country feel that I loved about AB. The new rooms seem to have too many different fabrics and styles. So busy that my senses are overwhelmed and does not seem relaxing. JMHO
We will be @POR Jan 8-17 with Garden view....2 queen beds,,, is this only the mansions?

I am unsure about that but can positively say I peeked in a window of a room with a king bed only in building 37.
