Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

We just got back Saturday evening from an 8 night stay at POR. I had requested a refurbed room and did not do online checkin. We arrived around 11:00 pm on Friday, 12/2. They did not have any refurbed rooms available, so we were placed in Building 39, Room 3961. We moved the next morning to a refurbished room in Building 36, Room 3636. It was wonderful even if it was a "keep an eye on your car" room on the 2nd floor. It had the new carpet and paint smell. The Murphy bed is a great improvement from the trundle. We only used the bus once, and the wait was quite long for MK. Lots of buses stopped but just not one for MK. We probably waited 25 to 30 minutes. On the way back to POR, our driver stopped at FQ first. The bus said Riverside and nobody got off. I'm not sure what the deal was that night. We used the car the rest of the time. My kids loved the quiet pool and preferred it over the main pool because they could have it almost all to themselves. The cast members were polite, and mousekeeping was wonderful. Her name was Marie, and she left a towel penquin for us one day. They were working on Building 38 and Building 14 from what I could see from the walkway. Part of the parking lot in front of Building 37 was fenced off for supplies. We saw Yee Haw Bob a few nights. We never took the time to sit down and enjoy his show but watched from a distance. Maybe next time. We are a family of 5 and were quite pleased with our second stay at POR.

I also wanted to add there were no pool towels at the quiet pool. There was a place to return towels but no towels to use. We brought towels from our room to dry off with.

I'm so glad you had a good trip and enjoyed your "keep an eye on your car" room! :lmao: I think we'll try the quiet pool this time. We never have. Last year there was a quiet pool practically outside our door but we didn't use it.

Yee Haw Bob is worth sitting down for a while. Next time!

Loving this thread! Only 102 days until our first stay at POR with FD and a Royal Room!

So ready to see this resort in person!!

We had a similar room two weeks ago in Acadian House(has it been that long already), but it turned out to be good. My friends could not afford anything but a standard view, but two of them smoked, so they just went out into the parking lot away from the building. We were also close to the bus depot for Acadian House.

And I got my fix of Yee-hah Bob this year; Saturday (night of arrival), and then Wednesday through Friday night. His Christmas show is better than ever this year. The audience participation was also some of the best I have ever seen.

Andre, I had to sell my DVC (BLT)during my recent divorce. Me & kids were really sad about it. Kids thought we'd never go back. After such a rough year I decided we need to head back to our Happy Place.

I booked a March trip with free dining Royal room, and chose POR thanks to you !!
I'm gonna surprise them at Christmas. Can't wait to see their expressions.
So I just wanted to say thanks love the site.

Well sorry for whatever the reason. Glad your going back, everyone needs a trip away from home to a place like Disney World, especially after your semi recent dealings. We also have the Royal Theme reserved with river view in Feb, so hope you like it.

Thanks. Kids will love royal room. I'm excited to stay at POR. It looks beautiful. Have stayed Allstars in past & the Villas, so our 1st mod. 84 days can't wait for Christmas to start the count down. Gonna do a letter from Santa with clues to 3 boxes, and have last box with balloons with a pic. Of Disney characters saying surprise were going to Disney World.

POR Room video

We haven't seen any prototypes of the actual room or mock-ups. It has only been released as the interior designer's rendering, which I suspect this is. Old news.

We are waiting for the real thing here on the POR thread.

This video was released via Disney Parks Blog today, so I suspect it may be fairly recent. The preview room that was shown to travel agents a few months ago has apparently been stripped out again as it was not final fixtures and fittings, rather more a quick design mockup.

I've no idea whether this video was shot in those rooms at the time though, or if they've done a newer finalised version for approval purposes. It does look very similar to me, except the older press images did not have the small AC thermostat unit on the wall next to the beds (but that could have been photoshopped out).

This thread is getting me even more excited about our upcoming visit to Riverside in January. This is our first time at this resort, as we are now a Disney family of 5. We are scheduled to return again to POR in August with my in-laws. From the pictures it looks like POR does not have connecting rooms. Is this true?

POR does indeed have connecting rooms. :thumbsup2 You can add it as a request to your reservation if you need them. There is no guarantee, but they do their best to accomodate requests. :santa:

I was in a connecting room last year in Parterre Place; I didn't need it.

This year, we requested connecting rooms; I was with four other adults and two young children. We booked the five year old in my room, so we could be in the mansions, and it was definately better having her stay in my room. The four adults are rather sloppy and the infant was in a pack n' play in the same room.

We not only got connecting rooms as requested, our rooms were ready when we arrived the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We were really excited. We also got refurbed rooms without even requesting them!

Ha yeah I have seen a video on youtube like that already. One child got a plane to explain how, second got a calender to explain when, and the third got a mickey and minnie doll to explain who they were going to see.

Yeah we are waiting to pass Xmas also before we start doing our go crazy countdown. Last year we didn't tell our little one about the trip even as we pulled up to the airport she just thought we were going to eat dinner at my favorite restaurant there. Then as we park and she comes around to the back before I popped the trunk her mom told her that we were going, she said repeatedly nuh-uh constantly. She was in denial, then made me swear a pinky promise that we were going. Got the whole thing on video.

Well anyhow, good luck with the surprise and have a great holidays and new years!

Thanks for finding this, after the press release I saw this morning I was looking for this video.

I read that also, I agree, I believe that is how they will end up. I cant wait for our stay and for me to report back with all the pics promised for you and who ever else wants some. I will have to take a list of things or angles some would like pics taken of. lol.
