I was wondering if they were going to open it on time or not.

That side is now open I believe - it would have been fully open now, apart from the tiling in the original section needing some extra work.

I'm told some new carpet is due to be laid too, but it seems odd that it would be laid on top of tiles rather than flush as before...?

Saw this on All Ears this morning, what have you heard about it Andre? With them putting them on the doors, do you think it will impact the resorts alot or just a bit of a headache?


New RFID Locks on Resort Rooms!

Walt Disney World resorts are installing new door locks enabled with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) wireless system over the next year. Subsequently, as each resort's door locks are converted, Key to the World (KTTW) cards enabled with the new RFID technology will be issued. The clouds and color of the new cards look slightly different; in addition the castle placement has changed. As of now, those staying at Disney's Art of Animation, Contemporary, BoardWalk and Yacht & Beach Club Resorts will receive the new KTTW card design, but all Guest Relations locations will begin to use the new KTTW cards effective immediately, so any guest staying at the Walt Disney World Resorts might be issued one of the new cards.

we've paid for preferred room. hoping that the fact that they'd hopefuly put us in a room that there is less walking to pools/bus stop/food court & main building is worth the money.

Now what/where do we request for a room location w/a double stroller? kind of want to be on the main floor (the area w/the LEAST amount of walking to the bus stop/all the action) , was it 18 in alligator bayou or was it 14? Correct me if I'm wrong. Granted we're a family of 5 so i think that's the only place they'd put us.

With that said I'm a bit worried about the constant lobby/traffic in the halls. Appreciate the suggestions/feedback So where is the ideal room/area to request. And when & with who do we put that request in?

thoughts anyone? and who do I call? Disney directly to at least try and put the request in for our DEC trip. What should I say/ask?

Wow I wonder if this will be a pro or a con! It would be nice if you dont have to reach in and pull it out if your hands are full or something.

It is definitely a pro in my book. We've stayed at a couple hotels/resorts with these room keys and it sure is nice to NOT have to pull it out and swipe it every time. Just like you said, it's great when your hands are full. Especially for me because I am always the "breakfast runner"!

In my experience, once you're within 2-3 feet of your door, the LED on the door flashes green which means it is unlocked. You then just turn the handle.

So we love staying at POR. We are a family of five and it is a great affordable option and also an amazing resort. I was looking at the pictures of the refurbished rooms. It looks like that fold down childs bed took the place of the cabinet that housed the TV and the 3 drawers.

Was another check of drawers put in someplace else. I could not imagine fitting in there with no drawers.

There's a chip in the room key that is programmed with a unique ID. That ID is transmitted and the receiver in the door lock is programmed to unlock when it receives your keys unique ID.

Right now there is only the plan to do the resorts as indicated.

This is a huge undertaking to go wireless. A lot more wiring than with regular secured doors. You also have a lot of testing up front to make sure you have the signal everywhere to keep the doors secured. Much different than just providing wireless internet.

We would like to go with this technology eventually; it would really help our maintenance guys who have their hands full trying to get into the building to fix something; tools, light bulbs, etc. We also oversee all the courts buildings and the attorneys are loaded down with documents, etc. and would like to have the ability to walk right up to the doors and have them open.

It is similar for hotels, resorts, etc. Much easier for maintenance and housekeeping to get into the rooms pushing carts and carrying tools, etc.

I'm thinking we have to get a 'body scan' at check-in and then the door is fitted with a gadget that scans your body to see if it matches.

Our DDs will be upset, their job is to slide the card in to open the doors anytime we are going back to our room.
If my hands are full, this still does not help me. Let me know when it unlocks the door and actually turns the knob and opens the door for me, then you will get me on board

What happens if mousekeeping is walking by, since they have a master card, will all the doors they pass start unlocking
