Kelly we stayed in Building 15 a few years ago and it was great a short walk acroos a parking lot and we were at the main station also of course it was real close to the food court and main building a well. Building 38 looks good as well and not that far of a walk to main building. Good luck with your request sending Pixie Dust to youpixiedust:

I would love 15 but that is preferred now. Our reservation is a bit weird. We have a garden view for the first night room only. Then our FD package starts but with a standard room. I don't care if we get a standard or a garden just want to stay in the same room.. I have stayed at SSR in the furthest possible room from the main area. So I'm sure I will be happy no matter what. But we have 3 resort day so I wouldn't mind being semi close...

Koz book the river view room and that will be as close to the front of the building as you can get for the Royal Room. We did that and it wasn't that much more. :goodvibes

Thanks Indigo, we did just that when I booked last week. My hope, if you can picture Building 90 as the letter "H" on it's side, is that we get one of the tips of the H, closest to the river. Having visited WL, CBR and Pop before, I'm very much looking forward to POR. Knowing that my boys are just as excited makes it all the more worth it!

LOL. Sorry, but I don't think there's a cure.

Mind you, you should hear what some Brits say about the Americans... ;) [or maybe not...] :)

Andre

I lived in the UK for 10.5 years, moved back to the States in June 2010. I can definitely agree with both statements lol :)

Andre - I read a page back of someone to fax. I have read on other resort threads that resorts no longer take a fax from guests for requests. Is this true at POR?

For those who have families of 5-6 and need to keep cost down there is the new AOA. Of course POR is preferred as far as I am concerned for a 5 with a child.

With the Royal Rooms now taking 512 mansion building rooms out of the regular mix, there are now twice as many AB rooms as there are regular mansion rooms, so that guideline doesn't really apply any more. I don't think they get anywhere near enough parties of five to fill all of the rooms in AB.

Andre

Ahh, ok, thanks for that. Fingers crossed then pixiedust:

Edit: One other question - as you are able to pool hop with POFQ does that mean that you can also fill your refillable mugs there too? I know, obviously you're not allowed to pool hop or do this with any other resort.

I have read multiple postings on here recently by people who have children older than 9 commenting on how they fit on the murphy bed in response to people asking.

I suspect that due to the limited size of the murphy beds, the guidelines state "suitable for a child up to 9" or some such wording, however I believe that you can actually technically still book five adults, if you want to take the risk. i.e. it's not a fire regulations issue, just a concern over whether guests will find the bedding suitable.

I have read on other resort threads that resorts no longer take a fax from guests for requests. Is this true at POR?

POR definitely do accept faxes. They can't always fulfil every request of course, but they don't just bin them which has been hinted at regarding some other resorts. That info comes right from the top of the room assignment team.

Edit: One other question - as you are able to pool hop with POFQ does that mean that you can also fill your refillable mugs there too?

Yes, POR and POFQ are sister resorts and allow you to pool hop and share refillable mugs between them.

Does anyone know where I can see pics of the updated Alligator Bayou rooms?

On the first couple of posts of this thread, and also http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-guest-SurlyMermaid.php and http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-guest-bunkkinsmom.php for starters.

are the inroom safes big enough to fit an ipad (well in our case a Xoom)?

Yes, but not a bigger laptop.

thanks again Andre.

Not the deepest things around mind, so have to make sure I don't put it in too straight or might open the safe to a nice smashing glass sound on the floor :)

are the inroom safes big enough to fit an ipad (well in our case a Xoom)?

thanks :)
I put mie in safe one night but it wouldn't fit much bigger and I was scared to dath opening safe that ipad would fall out.

I think I'm just going to request AB section. I'm thinking building 38. Anyone have any experience with this location ?

Hi Kelly,
We were there in March in Building 38 and I really liked the location. We wanted a refurbed room and at the time that was our best choice I thought. Last year we stayed in Building 16 and really liked that location. It was a slightly shorter walk than building 38 and you walked through the lush paths of AB which I really enjoy. We have always stayed in AB because we are a family of 5 so this year I wanted to get a little bit of the feel of the mansions. Building 38 is right next to the mansions and when we walked to the main buildings we walked past the mansions along the river to the bridge. It felt like the best of both worlds to me. We could have walked the opposite way to a different bridge and stayed in AB. It was very close to a bus stop, I want to say North I think and we really liked that bus stop. From building 16 we always walked to the South bus and honestly, I thought it was a bit crazier. I did not feel like building 38 was a long walk but I loved the walk and the view so maybe I'm not a good judge. No one in my family had an issue running to the food court for a refill. ;) Building 16 and 38 are both very good buildings to me. :thumbsup2

We're going back to POR! With one child opting to stay with grandparents this trip (crazy, I know!:confused3), we are able to fit in one room at POR for the cheapest again! So, it's been a few years, but we're going "home" again! I can't wait to ride the boat to DTD!!

Yay for you!!!:cool1:pixiedust:

leaning towards requesting room 38 thanks to 3sweetpeas :)

Anyways........are there loos near the main pool? With the park being so big, wouldn't fancy having a 10 minute walk with a 4yr old who says she needs a weewee or a poopoo :)

Nothing new or interesting to post, I just have to say that I love this thread!!!! My up and coming vacation is not only my families first to POR, but our first to DW, I have learned so much!!!

The completion of the first part of the work has been delayed by a week or so, the swap-over will now be on 17 May for those who are waiting to see what that first section looks like.

So has anyone been to the Riverside reception lobby today to see how work is progressing? Not sure whether the re-opening of the left-hand section, and the start of work on the larger right-hand side, occurred last night or will be happening tonight. Can't wait to see the first pictures though.

Thanks so much for your response. I think I'm going to ask for 38. :) Iwas debating between AB and the mansion section also. I like the looks of both rooms but I think the girls we get a kick out of the trundel bed. If it was me and hubby I think I would do the mansion section.

I will say that I checked out the menu on for the food court. I'm so excited about the make your own salad. I think I will be in heaven. I think pop has a great food court but the salads were just ok.

The first page of this thread has been so helpful. I stayed at POR but it was back in 1993 and I don't recall much about it. We usually go with POFQ.

I think I'm just going to request AB section. I'm thinking building 38. Anyone have any experience with this location ?

I stayed here in April and loved it. It felt completely surrounded by beauty. I had booked a Garden view and got upgraded at check-in to River view! :cool1: Our room was on the first floor near the corner closest to the bridge to Ol' Man Island, so that was the way we walked to the main building every time. Maybe a 3-minute walk at most. I wish I had walked along the river past the Mansions at least once, but we weren't there long enough to really explore. I didn't take the buses so I can't comment on the bus stop proximity, but it felt a little far from the parking lot when it was time to drag all our stuff back to the car (probably just because the room was at the front of the building and the lots are in the back.) Overall, this location is wonderful and I can't wait to stay here again. :thumbsup2
