Hello. I have never stayed at the PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE and have two questions:
1) I remember reading that the Alligator Bayou building does not have elevators? Is that still true, because it sure would be hard to get a scooter up the stairs...down would be pretty easy, I could just pull a Dukes of Hazzards maneuver!:rotfl2::rotfl::laughing::sad2:
2) The boat launches, can I bring my scooter on those and where do the boats go?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Alligator Bayou buildings do not have elevators, so you would request a first floor room for medical reasons.
Even without requesting it, you still have a 50/50 chance of getting ground floor since they are only 2 floors.
The Manson area DOES have elevators, o noproblemif you stay there

The boats go back and forth to Downtown Disney. They re wheelchair and scooter accessible. Post 8 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has further information and pictures. You can find that thread near the top of his board of follow the link in my signature.

We stayed at PORS in November and loved it. As long as you tell them you have to have a first floor room because of your medical condition they will take care of it.
On a side note, I'm not sure if you plan on using the buses or not, but if you are try to plan to avoid park opening if possible. Each morning they had a CM working the bus area. He told us that Riverside has the most wheelchair and ECV users of any resort. We often had to wait for a second or third bus if we got to the stop at opening time, but if we waited an hour we had no trouble.

I too was worried about my scooter at POR-alligator, so we requested ground floor for medical reasons. Upon arrival we were given second floor! The CM checking us in actually asked us if there was any way we could haul the scooter up the stairs! Both DH and I looked at her with disbelief and shook our heads. She kept on for several minutes trying to get us to agree to carry the scooter up stairs. Not a busy time and the resort had plenty of availibility. Finally got her convinced that we really needed a ground floor and everything worked out. So, bottom line is you can request ground floor with a scooter in advance and they may still screw up and try to make you climb.....do you really think two normal healthy people could haul a full size scooter up the stairs much less anyone who needs to use a scooter?:confused3
