Not sure if they sell wine in the supermarkets before 12. Can anyone help me with this?

If they do not, do you know where we can purchase wine on the way to the port, or near the port?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Thanks...good to know. We're not overly thrilled with the DCL wine list, and at the prices that they are charging, so we will try to get our own and bring on board. Have a good holiday season.

We made a stop on the way to the terminal, at the Wal-Mart at
1500 E Merritt Island Causeway - it's about 10 minutes away. We got some great values on wine, as well as bottled water (GREAT idea we got from the board!) and items I told my wife not to bother packing and carrying on the flight down.

That being said, we DID splurge on a bottle at our dinner at Palo, and OMG, it was well worth it - we described our likes and dislikes and allowed our server, Sylvester to recommend one - he did a great job of bridging our two differing preferences.

Does anyone know if their is a store within walking distance of the terminal that I could purchase beer? Thanks for the help.

you may want to check if they sell only after a certain time on Sunday's - here in Sarasota county it is after 12pm on Sunday's to purchase.

Up here in the panhandle it's also noon on Sunday's. I think it's a state law.

The time they sell on Sunday is very important to know! I was debating about either renting a car from WDW or hiring a car service and asking for a beer / wine stop. But now it sounds like we'd better rent a car the day before so we can get our "stuff" on Saturday! We've never left the Disney properties tho -anybody know where to go that's really close to the main gates of WDW that wouldn't take a lot of time to get to?

I called the Walmart on Merritts Causeway, and they start selling wine at 7 on Sundays. Does anyone know if they have "good" wine there? Also, is it far out of the way from the Port? Is there a Publix near by? Was Target recommended for wine? If so, where is that located? Also, what may be closer to the port, or on the way, specific addresses would be very helpful...thanks. Sorry for all the short questions...

Not knowing what you would consider "good" (but assuming you don't mean Ripple at $2.99, or a Lafitte Rothschild at $129), there was a pretty good selection. I picked up Rosemount shiraz,at $9 it's my "everyday" choice, as well as a couple of quite good $15-20 choices. I always tend to over-estimate my needs, and ended up bringing a bottle home, and gifting some to our room hostess and our server.

If you are driving from Orlando, it's one causeway south of the cruise terminal, instead of the one that goes directly there. It was only about a 6 mile total detour. Once you've left the Wal-Mart, you also pass a liquor store, but I don't know if it's open Sunday AM. Then , when you head north back towards the cruise terminal, you also pass a Publix on the left.
Hope that all helps.

Can you just carry the wine on board in a bag or box? Are there any security issues? Thanks! This sounds like a great idea.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure that will help. Now I just have to hope the weather will warm up. Our trip is next week, and really hope the weather down there will be warmer than up here in the North. I think that we are hitting 50 Monday...

There's literally nothing within walking distance of the cruise terminal as far as a retail location. Port Canaveral's out on an area all their own.

If you look at the road going out the bottom of the map, it says A1A Beaches/Hotels, not far down that way is the Publix being discussed, but it's literally miles away.

The only option on foot or with DCL transfers is buying at the first port you arrive at and carrying it on. If you're coming over in a towncar service most of them do offer grocery stops.

Shirley,

Thanks for your input. Since you seem to be the person from the area, we are driving from the airport to the port on sunday morning. What store do you recommend we stop for wine, without detouring too much?

Good morning,
Well as you are coming on hwy 528 AKA the Beachline, you will come to an exit that says Merritt Island, in fact it is the FIRST exit after going over the first huge span bridge over Indian River in Cocoa -you turn right on that exit and go less than a couple of miles if that - you will see a brand new Publix on the left and if you go a few blocks more, you will see Target on the right side.
There is a drugstore "CVS", there are gas stations - anyhow it could be your first stop - when you ready to go back on Hwy 528, you just head back North and exit on the ramp that will say East and you are on your way to the port.
Its really easy
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, just give me a call on my cell at 321-508-2246.
Always
Shirley
