We have stayed at CBR for three visits and for our visit in April of 2004 we were going to try POR. With the closing of POFQ and the renovations expected at POR, would you still make a reservation for POR or would you choose another hotel?

I like my price range to be 2-250 a night and can never seem to figure out how to get a deluxe for that.

Thanks,
Linda

I wouldn't decide anything yet if I were you, i would sit back and wait for information. AS the renovations get underway full swing I bet there will be some better indication of how long it will last and what the impact on guest will be. It looks like now that they are not booking to capacity to avoid having to relocate people, so if you did make ressies I think that you would be fine, but again if you don't think you have to book now to get availability them I would wait...maybe some codes will emerge that will allow you the deluxe you have wanted.

We were going to be at POR in October, but when the FT pkg came out we changed to the BC for about the same price as AAA dicounted room at POR. i am happy that we do not have to worry about how the renovations might affect our stay..

have fun planning.....:p

diskids- Do you mean $250 for 2 nights? This would give you a budget of $125/night. We stayed at WL last Aug. for that price. You may want to book one of the less expensive deluxe and then during winter, look for a discount code to apply to the room. I don't particularly care for POR, but that's just my opinion.

If it were me, I'd book where I wanted to stay. Who knows what they'll actually be doing by the time your date rolls around. If they have to move you, you'll undoubtedly get a great deal.

If your price range is $200-$250, you should to be able to get a deluxe resort. With discounts, WL & AK have been running under $150 a night. Actually, with the current AP rates, it looks like the only Deluxe that would be over your budget would be the Grand Floridian!:)

Unless you're going during Easter or some other holiday, you really ought to be able to get discounts that would make a Deluxe possible.

Thanks for the feedback! The $200-$250 is per night and I am going during Easter so that is why I didn't think I could get a deluxe for that price. Any other thoughts?

Linda

Even at the holiday rate, you should be able to get WL well under $250/a night!

HI diskids2, your log in confused me a minuted I'm "dizkidz2".

I would make a resv. for POR if thats what you want. We are going to be @ POR in 14 days and can't wait, this will be our 1st time there. We were concerned about the renovations @ 1st. but after reading different post here from people who have just gotten back, I don't think we have much to worry about.
I have also made resv. @ 2 different resorts before any discounts are available and then decide when the time comes closer which we will be staying at.

Hey dizkidz2! How funny! That was a good idea about the two reservations. I think I am going to do that and see what is better as we get closer to the trip.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks Again

Linda

I just got back from POR about 1 1/2 weeks ago...cant believe Its been that long already. I loved POR, it was my first time there and it was beautiful and peaceful. I would go back in a split second if I could. I only noticed that a few of the lodges at POR were closed because I was looking for them, having heard about the closings on this board. If I wasnt a member of this board I wouldnt have noticed anything closed. Except POFQ, everything there is closed and the guy driving the boat to DTD points it out and talks about it a little. If POR is the one you want then I say go for it. It is just beautiful there.

I have stayed at CBR when there renovations being done, so I guess it would be the same. I was just skeptical because it is resort that I had never been too and had my heart set on Magnolia Terrace - water view and with my luck that building will be under renovations. (Geesh, talk about stressing over little things, lol!)

I'm still going to try for a deluxe in my price range. What is everyone's experience of getting a deluxe the two weeks surrounding Easter for $250 a night or less?

Linda

I just got back from POR on Wednesday and I thought everything was just fine there. it wasn't as busy as i was expecting, and we really enjoyed our first trip there. the night I wanted to do the buggy ride around the resort it rained, but other than that it was great! We were in the mansion section, and closest to POFQ, and saw/heard nothing over there.

Good to hear from folks that have just been, thanks. As usual, everyone has helped me in the decision making process.
