Can someone please recommend the best way to get from Disney's POR to Port Canaveral for our cruise in August? It is DH and I and 3 kids (10, 8 and 8.)

Is it best to go back to the airport and leave from there? Or is it best to get a car service or rent a car in the Disney area and leave it at the port?

We always rent a car ourselves. The drive is around 1 hour. Parking is $15 a day. We generally leave the extra stuff in the car while on a cruise. We are cruising again in November, but need 2 cars this time. We crunched the numbers for our party of 10 and renting and paying parking fee is still cheaper than using Disney's transportation. Since we arrive 4 days prior, we will have our rental during the entire trip. And some of us (me) are staying another 5 days after we return.

A round trip towncar service is going to charge you around $200 or so. So, figure out what a rental will cost.
You can rent the car for the day, have dh drop you all off at the ship, with your bags, then he can return the car and take the shuttle from the rental office to the ship...many car rental companies offer this service. Then, when you're due to leave, take the shuttle back to the company office and pick up the new rental car and drive to your next destination.
But, run the numbers. It was actually cheaper for us to keep the car and pay for parking at the ship vs returning the car and then renting a second car for after the cruise.

I would take DME back to the airport and then take Cruise Express to the port. They charge $20 a per person one way or $40 round trip. I used them this past March and was very pleased with their service.

You can find their website at www.cruisexpressfla.com

Does the cruiseline bus pick up at FQ? I know I've seen a cruiseline desk there.

We always rent a car (Avis) drop it off at the Cape Canaveral office and take the shuttle to the port. They are very quick and efficient. Then we catch the shuttle and go back to the CC office and rent a car for the return to the airport.

I know a lot of people recommend dropping off your family and luggage first, but I'm not sure why--the shuttle driver for Avis will load and unload your luggage for you. We all just go to the rental car agency, get on the shuttle, and arrive at the port together. Avis has plenty of room on their shuttle.

We usually can rent a car for about $30 (each way) which is a lot cheaper than DCL transfers. We also have control over what time we get to the port (we like to arrive early).
