OK I just booked POR Riverside for April 9-17 and was totally excited and then I came to the boards to post and started reading a lot of negative things about this resort .

I have always wanted to stay here, (love the look of the old south) and now I am a bit hesitant. I asked for Magnolia Bend...Oak Manor.

Please all of you who have RECENT stays here, I really need your input, the good and the bad. If I need to change resorts I want to do it quickly, but hope I hear enough positives to make me stay! Thanks everyone I kno

Let me put your mind at ease. You will LOVE this resort. Remember, every single Disney resort, from time to time, will have a negative report. Every single one. One or two people that report badly does not make it so.
We have gone here for the last four years and have loved every minute of this place. Our last visit was April. We stayed in bldg. 15. I can't say enough about how beautiful and restful the grounds are. You could spend an entire day just walking around, or riding a surrey bike and you wouldn't get bored. They are rehabbing the main pool for an even longer slide :D and other great improvements. The boat to DD is fantastic in the evening, no better way to go. Please, no worries here. You have made a super choice!!!!

I feel bad! I started one of the negative threads about POR, but I was in the same boat as you. I had heard a very negative report and was worried about my choice. After posting I received so many positive reports that I'm feeling very confident with my choice. The postives way out number the negatives!!

we stayed there last october in alligator bayou, and decided it was our favorite moderate. the boat ride to downtown disney is great, especially at night. the grounds are immaculate and nicely landscaped. you will enjoy just walking around the resort. the quiet pools are nicer than the main pool. boatwrights is a reliable sit-down restaurant, and the food court
(riverside mill) offers many choices with a great seating area surrouded by huge wood (is it real wood or disney wood?) beams. and if you like that sort of thing, bob the piano player in the lounge provides great entertainment for all ages. its a short walk to the french quarter side, where we went to have breakfast just for a change of scenery. so relax, and enjoy!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

You will love this resort- very quiet but alot of great things to do. I have stayed here the past three years and would do so again. We've never had a problem with service or cleanliness in our room. There are pools all over and the main pool is great fun. There's a bar with entertainment some nights,a huge game room, the boats that go to POFQ and DTD nd a great food court and restaurant, The Boatwright. Just walking the grounds early in the morning and looking at the landscaping and the architecture is a treat itself.

I've always felt this resort was well worth the price. My mother who has stayed at many of the Deluxe resorts, also loves it here!

Have fun!!

I am leaving in 3 days, and am staying at POR for the 1st time. I will be sure to let you know what I think :)

A vacation is what you make out of it. Some people in the world complain about the smallest things. You can be nit picky about everything or just have a good time & laugh off the little things. Whatever you decide, good luck & have a Magical Trip:)

Thank you everyone for the encouragement!

Anyone else?

Emmy:D :D

Yes, we stayed there in December...21st through the 24.

We had a great room. Yes, the lights near the bathroom are dim. Big deal.....you can still see to put makeup on.

The bathroom was spotless, no mildew, etc.
We always had plenty of towels. I always left a tip..I don't know if that helped or not.

Our room was clean, the sheets were clean, we had no problem at all.

The scenery is beautiful. When we go again, we will not be able to stay there due to the size of our party. I hope we will be as pleased with another resort as we were with POR.

By the way, we checked in at 11:30. I could not believe they had a room ready! We drove from Ohio, stopped in Savannah, and then to WDW. It was so nice to get unpacked and head over to the Animal Kingdom.
Enjoy your stay..wish I were going with you!

I agree with the first few posters to this thread..The positives out-weigh the negatives. Perfect example that not all resorts are in "tip-top" shape...read the thread regarding the "Not so Grand Floridian". and thats a DELUXE.

As you will see below, we have stayed at POR many times.
It is our favorite.

I do have a few suggestions, but they may not apply to you or you would not mind.

We have stayed in the Mansion and AB section. We prefer to stay in the AB section, either bldg. #14 or 15. They are the closest to EVERYTHING. Main bus stop, pool, food court, and main lobby area.

Although the Mansions are very nice...it is a "good" walk just to get to the main area. But when we stayed in the Mansions over this past summer..(we were in room 9239 and had water view of the Marina) it was a wonderful view.

We said back in the summer we would try to get Partierre Place if we stayed in the Mansions again. That is the closest bldg. to the bridge to get to the main lobby area. BUT it is the furthest Mansion away from the Main Pool....(6 in one hand...1/2 dozen in the other)

Do try to eat at Boatrights...it has good food and is probably one of the more reasonably priced resturants on Disney property.

The Lounge is a MUST ! (if its to your liking) Bob Jackson plays a great Piano show in the lounge from Wednesdays to Saturday nights from 8:;30 to 12 Midnight....It is a clean show (remember you are at WDW) and if you have kids they will love it also. If your "lucky" you will be included in his "acts". Nothing more than dancing around the lounge or maybe even up on stage.

The boat to DTD is also a must. Very peaceful and relaxing. But pay attention to the flag on the boat. I can't remeber but when you return from DTD on the boat a red or green flag is the boat that stops at FQ only.

I have had a few minor problems while we stayed there BUT NOTHING that would make us not stay there again. Its our opinion that this is a DELUXE resort priced as a MODERATE.
Like I said, Its only MY opinion, I am sure others may disagree.

Have fun and enjoy !!!!!

Hi its me again. I just noticed you'll be there when we are there! We're arriving on the 16th. We'll be staying around the resort that entire day, doing the surrey bikes and the main pool. So if you see a Mom and Dad with three boys, thats us!! :D

Oh Jillpie how neat! I will look for you and look for us too, I have long brown curly hair, hubby brown hair and mustache, and 14 year old DS...blond, tall, thin, surfer looking type! I would love to meet!!

Well enjoyed athomsphere as always. Haven't stayed for over a year, new things seem to be butterfly garden behind Acadia House and carriage rides!

Room was very clean but towels very warn and motel 6-ish but that does happen at hotels sometimes...... housekeeping was up to par otherwise

note that the food court was not good this time!! was last here in Dec (didn't stay) and this time half was shut down for reno's and only the chicken and pasta and bakery avail. In Dec no chicken if I remember correctly.

Took boat from DD and was only person - VIP trip.....

Staff better than usual, particularly Dana at front desk.

My December trip review for stay from 12/25-12/30:

Aligator Bayou - Room 3409

I can't remember how many times we have stayed at this resort (must be at least 8), but I never fail to be impressed by the magic of this resort. This is just a spectacular resort!

Checkin: Very smooth and fast. No lines (Christmas Day is a great day to arrive). I had requested Building 26 but room assigned wouldn't be ready until 5 PM. I asked the CM to check for another room and she found Room 3409 (Building 34 is just behind Building 26 and is closer to the West Depot) so we happily agreed to Room 3409 and were on our way to the room.

Room: Corner room at a hallway crossroad in the building (no extra window). Very nice room - furniture and bedding in good shape. Room was clean. Trundle was under the first bed, as always. Maid service was good and in the morning 4 out of the 5 days. We left $2 per day for the maid (personally gave it to her on the afternoon cleaning day - she was very appreciative). Left a note for extra towels daily and received plenty of towels. We didn't have towel animals, but she made cute flowers with the washcloths and a bow with the bathmat.

Laundry: $2 for 30 minutes (both washer and dryer). Very busy place!

Pool: Visited the quiet pool in Bayou cluster 34-39. Pool was very clean and empty. Due to the cold weather and the busyness of the parks, the pools were not top draws. Did not visit the main pool which will begin a month's rehab 1/6.

Boatwright's: Dined here Christmas night. Had a very nice dinner with good service and good food. DH had jambalaya, DS had a t-bone, DD and I had prime rib. Be sure to order the garlic cheese bites as an appetizer. Bill was $113 before tip. Steep, but nice Christmas dinner.

Food court: Good food with good selection. The food court has cut back over the years, but there is plenty of selection. Old and new mugs are still being used. We ate 3 dinners here selecting items from the grill and the salad area. We ordered a pizza one night which we picked up. DD got deathly ill after eating the pizza, but DS and DH were fine. It's hard to know if DD's illness was food or virus related, but she was pretty sad.

Bikes: DS and DD rented a 2-person surrey bike for $18 for 30 minutes. They had a good time riding all over the resort.

Carriage: Saw the the carriage briefly one night going over the bridge to Ol Man Island. There was no heavy advertisement of this new nightly addition.

Boats: Didn't use or check the DD boats because it was TOO cold to ride the boats. We chose the warmth of the buses!

Buses: Excellent service again until Saturday, the 28th. On the 28th the crowds started to build. As a result, the buses got slower because there were so many people to service. When you go at such a busy time, be prepared for longer bus waits and lots of standing on the buses!

Decorations: Beautiful in an understated way. There were no decorations in the bayou area. I wasn't at any of the mansions so I can't help there. There were decorations outside the main door, a beautiful tree in the lobby rotunda and beautiful swags throughout the main building. In Boatwrights there were beautiful wreaths on the wall. I like understated decorations anyway. Very festive! I took pictures which I will post on my website over the next few days:

We thoroughly enjoyed our Disney Christmas at POR and enthusiastically recommend this resort to all! :D

you'll have fun there:bounce: :Pinkbounc

In case you don't know (OAk Manor) is an all smoking building, just in case you don't smoke. Have fun

Stayed in Magnoilia Bend 12/11-12/16/02! It was beautiful and quiet!! Wonderful scenery! Clean room and bathroom. Rented a surrey bike, took the boat to Downtown Disney and the one to the French Quarter! You will have a wonderful time! This was our second stay at POR. Our first trip was in 12/01 and we loved the resort so much we had to return! Took lots of pictures this time of the scenery. If you are interested, I could e-mail some to you (I use them as my screensaver!!) I CAN'T WAIT to start planning for a third stay at Riverside!!

Just got back from PO-R. I agree with all of the positive reports. I just want to add about the carriage ride. It is a 30 minute ride for $30. The driver (we had Heath, 5th generation Floridian, 3rd generation CM) and horse (we had Tim, all 2200lbs) took us around some of the paths around Riverside, then followed the river to FQ and amazingly fit the horse and carriage through the narrow streets there. We did this our last night. It was a nice way to cap off the trip. The ride starts at the marina area at Riverside, right near Boatworks. Pushing the recreation button on your in-room phone doesn't help, ressies are made through WDW-PLAY.

Thank you for letting me know Oak Manor is smoking!! The CM never told me that, I'll have to call to change it...

Any suggestions on what building to request in the mansion section? I would like close proximity to food, bus and a quiet pool! Thanks so much everyone!!

Emmy

I'd love it if you could e-mail me some shots of POR. We're staying there for (only) 2 nights Feb 23rd and 24th. My DH has never been to WDW before and isn't sure about the value of springing for the 2 resort nights. For me it will be the capper on a wonderful trip.

Thanks.
