Okay....I've given up trying to read all the numerous and very informative posts found all over the place and figured I'd ask my own questions....

DH and I are leaving on Sunday for 4 days pre-cruise. Could you all pass along your knowledge of the best buildings? I think I would prefer the Mansion buildings and we'd definatley use the quiet pools. Any help would be appreciated!!

Well, even though we prefer the Alligator Bayou, for its theming and convenience... if you really like the idea of the mansions, then request Magnolia Terrace. We stayed there, and it was quite lovely, and close to the bus stop... and not too far from the main building or Old Man Island.

However, if you do decide to give AB a try, request building 14. This has EVERYTHING! It feels secluded, but is only a 2 minute walk to the food court, and the bus stop, and is VERY close to the quiet pool. Also, it has no parking lot view, so no matter whether you request a water view, or a standard view, the view is nice. We found it to be quieter than the mansions, and more laid back.

Whichever you decide, have a great time:)

I really don't think that there are any bad locations in the Mansions. I stayed at the Acadian house with a "parking lot" view and had a beautiful view of a garden and landscaping. Couldn't even see the parking lot. One minute walk to the busstop, and only about 5 minutes to the food court. I thought that Magnolia Terrace looked like it would be further from the food court and Old Man Island than Acadian House. The drawback was that you had to walk a little further (maybe 2 minutes?) to the quiet pool. I don't think that you can go wrong with this beautiful resort.

We also stayed pre-cruise and we had Acadian building. We had a parking lot view but we did not care as we had a corner room and spent very little time in the room. I loved Acadian House as it seemed out of the way but was within 5 mins of the main building. And we did not rush. We liked to slowly stroll back to our room after dinner and the longest it took us was 10 mins when we stopped on the bridge to just look around. I loved the mansions and highly recommend them.

We've stayed at POR Mansions twice and loved it both times. Most recently we were in Acadian House, previouly at Parterre Place. If you check the map http://www.wdwig.com/dxlmap.jpg, Our Acadian House room was inside the courtyard on the parking lot side - a longer walk to the food court, but very convinient to the North Depot at the end of a long day. Our Parterre Place room was had a parking lot view facing the bottom of the map - about the same distance to the food court, a long walk to/from the bus. I guess Oak Manor is the smoking building, so I would recommend either Acadian or Magnolia. Of course, everyone requests Magnolia.....

If you want to stay in the Mansions, I would recommend Magnolia Terrace. We stayed there in 1999, and it seemed to me to be the closest to the main buildings (food court, etc). The path that leads to Ole Man Isle & then over the bridge to the main building is right outside of Magnolia Terrace. We had a 2nd floor room facing the river, so we just walked out, down the steps, and the path was right there. There is also a quiet pool right next to this building, and a bus stop pretty close - although we usually used the bus stop out in front of the lobby of the main building.

I like Oak Manor & Parterre Place because of its proximity to the bridge that goes to the main building.
