Popular Baby Names in 2007

I have a Justin (my favorite aunt liked that name) a spencer who has since passed on, not a real popular name. A whitney which suits her just fine and a girl named Riley which I happened to have my oldest son pick out from a movie where the male character was named Riley It suits her though and is a pretty popular name. If I were to have one more boy it would be named Carter I think. We have too many Jacks in our family and that is my other favorite name. I don't really like the girsl names on that list.

When Cassidy was born in 1992 she was the only one (or so we thought). Turns out Kathie Lee Gifford named her daughter that too. Then when Cassidy was in preschool (a huge preschool.....40 total classes) we found a little boy with her name...born on her birthday. :upsidedow But he has been the only one in the same school with her. Now there are a lot more little ones named Cassidy.

Abigail is a bit more popular but still not that many and certainly none with Abi as their nickname...spelled that way. Her sister named her and both names fit the girls to a T.

the boys names are more along with what my girls would have been had they had boy parts.

Just remember even if you name your child a top 10 name (which Abigail is consistently) doesn't mean it will be popular in your area.

My 4 year old twins (Anna and Charlie), in their circle of friends, have an Abigail, who goes by that name, an Abigail, who goes by Abby, and an Abby. There's also a Gabriella, a Julia, a MacKenzie, an Ava, and 2 Justins. :dance3:

One problem with giving your child an unusual name is finding personalized items! Every time I look on those racks in stores for pencils, magnets, etc. that have names on them, I rarely can find our girls' names, Marie and Eva. Marie I can find occasionally, but I've never seen Eva. And of course I can't buy for one and not the other.

Guess if I want them bad enough I'll special order them, though I've never felt so inclined! ;)

I love the names Anna and Charlie....how cute. Not trendy and good, strong names. :thumbsup2

Thank you! Anna was named after my grandmother, who even my mom didn't know her real name was Anna (she went by Ann or Annie) until we told her we were naming my dd after her (she told us not to, it was a horrible name, and that's why she never used it :rotfl2: ). She was an amazing woman. Charlie was named after my grandfather, who was a really wonderful man.

My other kids are Marin (which is a derivative of Mary, and also means "of the sea," and she's a total beach nut), Jack (John, my FIL's name), and Kate (Katherine - named after my aunt). I like family names, not trendy names! :thumbsup2

We named my DD Ella after Ella Fitzgerald, and then stupid John Travolta went and named his DD Ella, and on came the onslaught of movie stars using that name. It's not on the top ten, but it is definitely more popular than it was!

DS is Anderson. I haven't met another one of those yet (except for Anderson Cooper). Hopefully, that one won't catch on.

I am a teacher and did not want to name my kids after kids I'd taught. LOL.

Looks like Chloe fell out of the top 10! It was there a year or so ago. :) Hopefully Olivia will be out of there in the next 2 years or so. 2 of our friends had babies in the last year and thier names were Sophia and Ava.

Comparatively, in the UK:

Top 10 Girl Names

Sophia
Isabella
Emma
Madison
Ava
Addison
Hailey
Emily
Kaitlyn
Olivia

Here it's:
Grace
Ruby
Olivia
Jessica
Sophie
Chloe
Lily
Ella
Amelia

I like the US list much better; I don't like any of the names on the UK list except Ella. I love Madison, Addison and Ava for girls - never met a nice Hailey though. I like boyish names for girls so anything ending in a 'y' isn't "my thing".
So only Olivia is in common.
Top 10 Boy Names

Aiden
Ethan
Jacob
Jayden
Caleb
Noah
Jackson
Jack
Logan
Matthew

Here it's:
Jack
Thomas
Oliver
Harry
Charlie
Daniel
William
James
Alfie

So only Jack in common.

I like Aiden and Ethan but both strike me as "naughty" names! I have never met a nice Matthew so I would never use that name. The only name I like off the UK list is Harry.

I think the UK list is more traditional - we're less inventive with names!

I love the UK lists! Especially the boy's names! :) I like pretty much all of them! The girl's names I like from the list are Ruby, and Amelia.

Thanks for sharing the lists!

Some names are like that. It's weird how different areas have different popular names.

I doubt Teagan will ever get in the top 50, even, but you never know. All it needs is one popular tv or movie character to be named that and then it takes off!

Your girls have nice names and if they like them, you did good. :)

I have 2 coworkers who have daughters named Teagan - one is 4, and one is 7 months. I like the name!

I don't even know many people with babies, and I know an Ava, an Olivia, and my cousin just named his son Kaiden this year. I am still surprised when my name (Elizabeth) has fallen out of the top 10.

None of the names I like best are in the top 10 this year, which is good (we're thinking about trying to have a baby next year).

My oldest DD is a Julia and my youngest is an Olivia. We have run into a few Olivias in nursery school, but not in school ... yet!

I teach Kdgn and have noticed there is a different trend every few years ... right now we have a TON of Aiden, Braedan, Caedan, Hayden, Jayden (and all of the various spellings that these can have). I heard on the radio that Jayden was on the top list and that there were 27 different spellings for that name :confused3 .

I like that my girls names are easily spelled ... my name is Kerrilee (Carrie - Lee) ... and do you know that I have to spell my name EVERY time I tell it to someone??? I am not so bad with that now, but when I was younger I HATED it!!!

As for searching for personalized name items, I have no problem finding Olivia, but I can't believe that so many times it is only JuliE, not Julia!! I don't think Julie is very popular anymore, but guess they still print them up!

My new niece is Ruby (on the UK list) and it suits her to a tee!!!

I have an Anastasia and a Katarina

I'm breeding my own Russian Ice Skating team.

I love your lists, especially Grace, Lily, Ruby, Amelia, Jack, Thomas, Oliver, Harry, and Charlie.

I'm glad that most of the names that I like aren't anywhere near the top ten (Audrey, Caroline, Aleksandr, Lux, Charlotte, Alixandra, Sergei, Viktor, Tatiana, Annika, Ekaterina).

Like "fltwinmom", I'm also going to breed my own Russian ice skating team. ;)

My DS13 is Christian and only just started going by Chris in middle school.

My DD10 is Lauren.

I have always loved both names so it never bothered me if they were popular or not.

I also like:

Ben
Nathan
Grace (Gracie)
Rose
Lily

I wonder where Jayden originated from? There was a time Hayden was popular after some TV series. I wonder if it is a derivitive of that name? I like Hayden. But I don't hear it nearly as often as Jayden. Isn't that Brittany Spear's son's name?
