Popular Baby Names in 2007

I really like the name Ava. Maybe by the time I have kids it will have subsided in popularity.

I really like biblical names for boys.

I too like names that are established and have been around. I don't like trendy names.

My good friend is pregnant with a girl, she wanted it to have the same initials as her and is naming the baby Kaylee Marie...can't say I'm a fan. I know a TON of people with Marie for a middle name...I guess because it goes with everything. Marie is her middle name so I guess that's why she wanted it.

We have more Isabels in our school than teachers. I think our popular boys name here is Kyle

#8?!? WOW, I had no idea. It was not that popular in this area at all.In fact, most people we told had such a negative reaction to it that we wouldn't tell anyone the names we had picked out for the second child. We learned our lesson the hard way.

Teagan at 424 at least gives her a few years to get ahead.

Some names are like that. It's weird how different areas have different popular names.

I doubt Teagan will ever get in the top 50, even, but you never know. All it needs is one popular tv or movie character to be named that and then it takes off!

Your girls have nice names and if they like them, you did good. :)

My dd's name is popular with a differnent spelling for a boy. Bradyn is my dd's name and most boys around here are Braden or Brayden. There is a Brayden in her pre-school so she goes by Brady-Beth ( middle name is Elizabeth) at school.

I did not realize that DS (Ethan) was #5 in 2004 and getting more popular. A couple of years ago my MIL was in Germany and saw a baby named Ethan that was about the same ago. We almost named DS Noah and it is on the list for this year. I still love the name.

DD (Hannah) was #8 last year on the list, but not on the top 10 for this year. I would not change either of their names they fit them so perfectly.

Nothing we would consider for future children. I am a little surprised (but very happy) that the names we've already picked out (boy and girl) are not near the top of the list!:goodvibes

I'm over 50 and have an unusual name and have always liked that it was different. I gave my DS26 an unusual name and he likes the uniqueness too. I've never known anyone with his name and it's not in the top 1000.

Wow. There are a ton of names on that list I thought about for my kids, who are 12 and 9 years old. At the time they were barely on the top 100 list, let alone the top 10.

My boys were always going to be Ava if they were girls. When we decided we were done having kids I "gave" the name Ava to my sister to use. She's 5 now, and at that time, no one was using that name. Her sister (Madeline) is a few years younger and there are 4 Ava's in her pre-school class! So Ava really did catch on in popularity.

Jack was also a name I almost used for my kids. My brother's name is Jack and I wanted to name my kid after him, as he has always been my best friend. But at the time he was married and I thought they might have kids and want to use the name Jack. So I passed on it. Its one of my biggest regrets. Of course at that time there were no Jacks either, that name has only caught on in popularity in the last few years.

The year I named my son Aiden, I don't even think it was in the top 100. I chose it because we have a very common last name and I didn't want him to have a common first name too! I am fuming that it became so popular.

I like classic names, my children are Julia and Matthew.

DH pushed hard for Matthew and I was against it because it was so popular, but finally agreed because it was the one name we agreed on where I liked all the variation(Matthew, Matt, Matty)..but I just knew he'd end up as Matthew L.
But so far so good, there are no other Matthews in K in his school, my daughter is 2 years older and had 2 Matthews, but they both moved away.

There are 3 Anthonys in her grade and they all ended up in the same 1st grade classroom(there are 3 classes in each grade). That poor teacher. LOL

As for the list I actually like most of the names, there are 2 girl names and 1 boys name I don't like at all, but that's it.

My name is Vicki and there was one other Vicky with me throughout my school years, it never bothered me.
My husband is Jimmy and he always has someone named Jim/Jimmy wherever he goes. In his firehouse with 24 guys he is one of 3 Jimmys, all called Jimmy, none called Jim or James.

You can thank Sex in the City.

In the past 3 years I have friends/family who named their kids...3 Aidens, Ethan, Emma, Jacob. I would really love to name my daughter Isabella. But, probably not having anymore. My DD is Aerial, there is one other Ariel in her school. It was the same with me growing up, there was only one other Marcie. Now, my DD's best girlfriends name is Marci.

What year was that?

Aiden started becoming popular in 2003 when it jumped from 175 to 73 and then it just kept climbing. Of course when you add in the Aidan spelling, it brings it even higher. That jumped into the double digits in 2001.

I wish more people knew about the social security tool before they named their babies, if popularity was a factor. Some people either don't care or want a popular name, but for those who don't, it's such a useful tool.

My son was born in 2001, and I think that was the year that there was a character called Aidan (which is actually traditionally the more "common" spelling) on Sex and the City as my doctor commented on it when we chose the name. I didn't have HBO at that time, though, so I'm really not sure.

According to IMDB the Aidan character appeared on Sex in the City beginning in 2000 and continuing to 2003.

When I had dd I think the show that everyone was "naming their kids after" at the time was Friends. Edited: Just looked, that was actually when I was pg with ds who is now 5. I remember waiting with baited breath to hear what she would name her baby... and praying it wasn't a name on my list, because I knew whatever name it was would be in the top 10 shortly after, and it was.

I recently read something somewhere that the current show inspiring names is Grey's Anatomy. I actually know someone who named their dd Addison Gray. Cute name, but I could never do that (combine 2 characters names from one of the most popular shows on tv at the time).

My cousin and I named a tree(yes, a tree) at my grandmother’s house Sophia like 15 years ago…Who knew it would become such a popular name!!

My husband is determined to name our child, if a boy, after a president right now he is pushing for Andrew Jackson *very cajun last name*…..I can’t wait…

I have an Isabella (Bella). She's the only one in 40 of her preschool classes, but her best friends are Anna, Taylor and Haley. She was born in 2003, and if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't pick such a popular name. Also she is, most definitely, a "Bella."

She says all the time she wishes her name were "Sarah" because "it's a beeyoutiful name, Mommy."

(If she'd been a boy, she would have been "Noah." And my brother and his wife just STOLE MY BOY NAME. )

I bet Ava will climb to #1 soon. Every little girl seems to be Ava now. Madison still seems to be everywhere, too - When I am at Disney, I can't count how many times I hear the name in the parks! And Aidan being #1 for boys is no surprise at all. I can almost predict that any young blondish boy I meet below age 5 will be named Aidan/Aiden! And every show on TLC that features people with multiples always have an Aidan!

I have a friend with a 4 year old DD named Mylee. I wonder if the name Miley/Mylee/Maile will explode in popularity in a few years .... :scratchin:
