Popcorn kernel stuck in my throat! UPDATE ~ It's Gone!! p. 8

This thread has been fascinating to read...and it has also been a wake-up call for me that I must make sure I *NEVER* eat popcorn again!

While the husk-stuck-in-throat has never specifically happened to me, I felt empathy reading back through Nikki's account.

Within the last couple of years, there have been a couple of occasions where I had felt a lump in different spots within my armpits...and, each time, I immediately panicked and feared it might be cancer.

When I went to the clinic, the radiologist who took an ultrasound of the area examined it and reassured me that it was only a lipoma...and that hot/warm cloth compresses are the best treatment for it; they usually go away on their own.

Not the exact same thing as a popcorn kernel lodged in one's throat, of course -- but a "health scare" driven by one's worst fears, nonetheless.

Just as it's coming up on the NINE year anniversary of this post being made, I'm dealing with this right now and stumbled upon this thread when searching for help. Everyone who helped out is smarter than me...it's been eight days and no luck. I've tried everything except going to a doctor. I'm going to a clinic tomorrow bc my throat started bleeding tonight and it's just so frustrating that I can't deal with it anymore. Mine's within reach at the back of my throat, but even so I can't get it out. Someone made a comment a while ago about it being stuck in the tonsillar crypts (?) and I think that's what's wrong for me. Hopefully the doctor at the clinic will help!

Oh my gosh, I feel so bad for you! This was my original post. It'll be nine years this summer since it happened, like you said, and I still have not had popcorn since. It's THAT bad! Such an awful, hopeless feeling. I'll have to go back and read how long it was before it finally dislodged but every doctor I went to told me there was nothing there. That what I was feeling was just a scratch from the shell but I knew that wasn't true. I could feel it there. It eventually came out on it's own. I know because I felt it move at night when I was lying in bed. I got up and ate and drank something and the next morning, it was gone.

It's been a few weeks since you posted this - has it come out?? I really hope so!

Hey Dan!!! It's so nice to pop into the boards every once in a while and see some old friends. The years that I was most active, I truly had so many DIS friends, it was awesome! Almost every trip, I ran into DISers in the parks! I wish I could get back into it like I was. So glad you like the videos! I still try to do them for every trip but some don't ever get off the ground and none are as good as those few originals. So nice to hear from you!

:wave2: Hey!!! I miss the DISboards so much but I just can't get back into it! I'm confused about how it looks, even though it's been changed for years. I just sign in every once in a while to check notifications on old threads. I especially miss getting to know other DISers and running into them in the parks!
....welcome back kiddo...

This is the best result I got when looking up how to deal with a kernel shell stuck in your throat. I love to eat popcorn, but I might just stop now. It's been 2 days now since there's been a kernel skin lodged in my throat after eating popcorn. It's stuck at the top of my throat and I think it's hiding behind the wall that separates the entryways for the mouth and the nose. So, I feel like this will be more difficult than the original poster's issue. .....And now that I've said that, I just scared myself.

So, from what I've read, it just eventually comes out on its own? I just need some good news now. I'm the kind of person that thinks the worst possible thing will happen. Probably worrying myself to death over nothing, but I can't help it.....

Welcome to the dis, Zalkahal. Hope that kernel will work its way out. I am sure it will.

Nikki, your thread still has life, 9 years later. Hope all is well with you and the new school year going along.

Yeah, I'll try the bread. And Coca Cola, even though I hate Soda. But, when people say the husk or the shell was stuck in their throat, are they talking about the skin or the whole kernel?

I think they mean the hard shell, it looks like a tiny contact lens. Try the bread trick. I have also heard eating a banana may work. Are you sure it's stuck and didn't come out? Maybe it's not stuck but the area is irritated from trying to get it out.

I really feel it in there. It feels the same as it did when it first got stuck there right after eating popcorn. And yeah, that's what I meant too, I guess. Just the wording confused me for some reason. It feels exactly like the contact lens looking shell. I'll be going to the store in a few hours, and I guess I'll get bananas, bread, and Coca Cola. And hope one of them dislodges it from my throat, which I'm pretty sure I know exactly where it is. Like I said, hiding behind the wall that's separating the passageway to my mouth and nostrils. Don't know in what way it's in there, though.

Edit: Which I just remembered is the called the Septum. It's stuck on my Septum.

Have you read the whole thread because I'm sure there were many helpful things stated in the past 9 years. Good luck to you and welcome. :welcome:
