We stayed at Pop Spet 19th -27th and loved it.. We were in the 60's building 3. We were on the 2nd floor, 2nd room in right by the elevators overlooking the pool.. This is a standard room right?? It was awesome.. Close to the pool, not far from the main building and near the elevators..

No,the 1960s and some of the 1950s and 1970s are the preferred rooms at Pop Century. The preferred rooms carry a $12.00 per night surcharge.:)

That was a preferred room - believe me I know - I was on the 3rd floor of the 60's about as far away from the elevator as you can get and today CRO verified that it was a Preferred Room. I'd written an email to WDW CRO to find out if my room was preferred & if it wasn't I wanted a refund because I'd paid for Preferred. Got a phone call today from a great Customer Service Rep who explained alot of stuff to me that I actually didn't know about the locations of the preferred rooms in the different buildings. Now I know exactly what to request and what not to. :confused3

Maybe you could fill us in on that information. We have also paid for a preferred room that we didn't really think was preferred. They offered to move us, but because we were part of Grand Gathering, it would have thrown off our rooms being together. (All of us had booked preferred by the way)

We were in room 5341 in the 60's. Third floor - view of NOTHING - far away from elevator on the back side of the building. I thought that with a preferred we would have been on the front side of a building, near a pool, close to the food court, etc, but that wasn't so. I think they are classifying the entire building whether it's front or backside as preferred. The other bad thing about being in the 60's is that they tell you to park out by the 50's building and that means hauling your luggage all the way around the Hippy Dippy Pool through the crowds. We finally gave up & parked our car out in front of the bus stop area (but further out) and left it there the entire time we stayed at POP. No one said we couldn't do that. I really enjoy POP, but this time it just wasn't what I had anticipated. Next trip I think we're going to POFQ.

Would you mind sharing? It would be appreciated by all! :goodvibes I have mobility issues, I can walk short distances with the use of a cane, but will rent an EVC while there for 13 days. I paid for a preferred when booking. I also requested a room near an elevator. Do I need to do something else? Thank you! :)

WOW! We had the same experience last December. We never said anything to anyone about how unhappy we were with our so-called preferred rooms because we were part of a Grand Gathering and had the same concerns you did about breaking everyone up. We all booked preferred also. Still gets to me every time I think about it but have no one to blame since we didn't do anything about it. We were there to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary and my DGS's BD so I didn't want to rock the boat. We still had a great time though. :wizard:

I don't have any "new" suggestions, but posters in other chains regarding POP's preferred rooms have suggested faxing a specific request to the hotel about 5 days prior to your arrival. I know that there were several chains in September regarding POP and maybe the fax number is in them.

Good luck - enjoy POP. It really is a great resort - other than room location everything else was great! :wizard:

That is great advice, we will try that! :goodvibes Thank you!

Pop is one place I don't spend the extra $ to get preferred location. It seems like some of the preferred rooms are further out than the regular rooms.

Go to this page, scroll down to POP. You will find a map (#2 ) with black lines marked on buildings and boxes with data.......that shows the preferred rooms.

According to the little black lines my "preferred" room that I paid for wasn't what I was given. It's not near the black lines at all. According to WDW CRO it definitely was, but I'm not going to argue anymore about it.

I enjoyed POP, other than the room location everything else was perfect this vacation. Can't wait til we go back again!! :goodvibes

If you were 5341, then your room does have a black line through it on the map. According to the room number map (#3) , your room should have been right where Mowgli's feet are on the map showing preferred (#2).

For me, I always request standard facing the lake. I like the peace and quiet and nothing is a far walk. Our last room was perfect !

We stayed last week in the 1970's area, building 6. It was a nice location, not too far from the Hippy Dippy pool and the food court/gift shop area.

Actually NO - our room was on the back side of the building - third floor overlooking absolutely NOTHING. No where near Mowgli............ so I still don't consider it a preferred room even though CRO does. I'll just know to be more specific when I request a preferred room and pay for one. But like I said before - it still was a great visit & after all.......we were at Disney!! :goodvibes

I wasn't too impressed with our preferred room either. It was in the 70's building on the second floor, and since we had strollers we had to walk to the center of the building to use the elevator; it was a longer walk than if we had been in many of the non-preferred. Not Disney's fault, but just not worth the extra $$ for us. Now, the people who had the rooms next to HD pool, they definitely had preferred rooms!!!

I didn't mean near the actual Mowgli at the hotel, I meant where the little Mowgli is drawn on the map for reference. The back of the building has one side that is preferred because it is a short walk to main building compared to most rooms. Although the rooms behind it are the same distance if you are on an upper floor and need the elevator.

Sorry, I just thought you were looking for verification that it was indeed preferred room, and it shows that is was on the map.

I stayed at Pop Century beginning on the first Saturday it was open in 2003 and ALL of the 1960s have been preferred since opening day. Some of the rooms in the 1950s and 1970s were designated preferred rooms at a later date.:)
