Pop Warner Fight?

omg...that is really sad. The last little bit where you hear the kid crying just makes me want to cry.

Once again - as someone who was actually PHYSICALLY THERE when this all went down, I can honestly say that unless you were actually at the arcade at 1am, it really didn't impact you very much.

I chose to stay at All Star Sports on this past trip to see if I thought that Pop Warner was such a big deal to avoid or not.

Other than finding the resort and food service areas busy most of the time, it really didn't impact my trip much one way or the other.

Thanks,

Knox

Well, I think I've figured out who's really to blame for these Pop Warner kids...

got to love the tough guy in the tan shirt, first he sucker punches the guy in the red shirt, then he takes 4-5 kicks at a defenseless guy, trying to cover himself on the ground. When he is actually face to face with someone, he bounces around in a martial arts stance 4 feet away.

I think the majority of us who read or post on these boards know that PW is always the first full week of December every year, and most of us prefer to avoid that week like the plague.

That said, the majority of people who go to WDW probably don't post or read here, and have no idea the PW superbowl even exists. They show up that week, expecting a nice vacation, and are completely taken off-guard by PW. I know DW and I were 4 years ago when we were unfortunate enough to go during that week. So, even though we know to avoid it now, there will always be enough people out there who don't know, and that keeps the rest of the resorts full. So, Disney really has no reason to cancel their contact with PW. It's not hurting their business. I wish that weren't the case, but it is, and we deal with it by going a different week.

On a note of accountability for the teams - when a football player drops the ball on the field, the whole team suffers. When a player tackles the ball carrier by the face mask, the team is penalized, not the individual player. An individual's actions or performance does affect the whole team. It's the same off the field. One player messes up. the whole team must face the consequences. Sorry, but if you don't like it, play tennis, or some other individual, non-team sport.

Finally, I have to say that in today's day and age, god help the referees. THey are just trying to call the game right, and keep it fair, but these parents feel that if a ref DARE call a penalty against their kid, that warrants a beating. How do they even find refs anymore? I sure wouldn't want that job.

Um... actually, that is incorrect. The PW Superbowl events are scheduled based on when Thanksgiving falls each year. They are at WDW about 9 days after Thanksgiving. Some years that may put them there the first week of December, other years it does not.

In 2008, PW will actually be at WDW during the second week of December. Just thought some people might want to be aware, in case they are taking the PW dates into consideration when scheduling their vacation. ;)

I have to say that, like a lot of people, I love WDW during December, but there are times when things can get out of hand. I can't imagine being a chaperon for one of these groups. The kids and the adults have so much adrenaline that sometimes they look ready to explode. I guess this might have been one of those cases. WDW had to be an overwhelming experience.

That being said, I try to avoid going to WDW during PW weeks or during the cheerleading competitions. If I really want to go, I stay away from the value resorts if I can help it. The value hotels are nice but I've been there during cheerleading weeks...and I will pass on that again.

We just got back from staying in WDW from Dec 1-9. On Saturday, the 8th we decided to go to Magic Kingdom for our last night since it was open until midnight. We arrived exactly at 8pm, the same time that Spectromagic was in the mist of traveling down mainstreet. It took us 45 minutes to get from the entrance to down by the Plaza. Yes, I timed it. As we were making our way through, a bunch of Disney security was pushing against the crowd trying to hurry down mainstreet. Talking into their walkie talkies and shouting for everyone to move. By the time we made it to the hub there was nothing going on. Not sure what or who they were after, but it seemed serious. And yes, I will absolutely NOT travel down the same time that Pop Warner is there. Different groups of cheerleaders would say the same cheer over and over and over again in line, that by the time we got on the ride, I knew the dang on cheer myself! :rotfl2: Oh, it was bad...really bad..

I had the same experience...they were even cheering in the food court lines. The best one was two groups probably from rival schools, trying to out-cheer each other. They seemed to know each other. I stayed out of the food court or went really early in the morning after that.

right, which is the first FULL week (7 days sun-sat, all in dec)

bravo disney for taking action and throwing the 3 teams and families out..

zero tolerance is the only way to keep control...

i have a feeling that disney may tell pop warner to find a new venue..

they don't need their dollars as much as they used to and it would seem the security issues are far greater than the worth...

anyone starting up a 'get rid of pop warner' petition?
i'll be happy to sign...

I will sign too!

Can anyone verify the 2008 dates? I looked around on their site, but could not seem to find it.

Bring on the petition!!! I will be GLAD to sign it! I will NEVER go during PW or the cheerleading and dance. We have had terrible experiences with all of them and to me, it is just not worth it. I love Disney at Christmas time but won't do it because these groups. Also the week before Spring Break starts seems to be a bad time because of the cheerleading and dance competitions at that time!

Good for Disney!

I've been following this thread for a few days.

I am 300% in agreement with the way Disney handled this unnecessary situation. But, simply put, they just followed their "already in place" rules-no special treatment either way. Rules are created for a reason. If the people from PW had a problem with WDW rules and regs, than they should have thought twice about going, for fear that they could (and were) enter a situation where those rules would have to be applied.

It's terrible that the PW travelers who were not involved in the incident had to be woken up and the chaos of relocating, but WDW is certainly not to blame for PW's hassles of the aftermath.

That said, I do not think that WDW should end their commitment to PW. I think that a few bad eggs should not be representative of an entire organization and second chances should be given for next year's participants.
Hopefully, the PW organizers of this event have learned their lesson and have a better plan for next year.

HOWEVER, I do think it would be in everyone's best interest to change the dates in which PW comes. The holiday season does not seem like it would be the best time to host a ton of loud adolescents, who are potentially very disrupting on several guests (fight or no fight). Maybe if they switched it to late summer or something when it is less busy-it would have less of an impact or potential disruption towards other?

Just my opinion.
