We have a 5 ish reservation at the Yachtsman on a Thursday in April. Would it be better to take bus to HS or Epcot, then walk? Boat? Bus? I would prefer to walk if its not too far. Only our second disney trip and never been to the BC/YC area. Also, how close is Boardwalk from YC? Would like to walk over for a while after dinner.

If you want to use Disney transportation, you'd have to take the bus to DHS, then you have a choice of bus, boat or walk to get to YC. The reason you wouldn't take the bus to Epcot is that you would then have to enter Epcot in order to get to the International Gateway, and then to YC. (Well, you could do it, but you would need to have enough days on your park ticket or a park hopper if you had been to another park earlier in the day.) I think it's about a mile walk, so I don't know if that's what you would consider not too far. The Boardwalk is an easy walk from YC.

It's very easy to take the bus, from Pop, to DHS, and then either walk or boat over to YC. The boat ride will be about 20 mins or so, not including possible wait times for it to arrive. The walk is about 22 mins...get off the bus, walk towards the canal, with the parking lot on your right, park on your left. Go to the right of the canal...walk down beside the parking lot for a bit, then you will see a sign that directs you down a little slope, to BW. When you get to the end of this walkway (runs right alongside the canal), at the end of Boardwalk (it runs behind the resort), go left, up a little hill, and to the right and over the bridge. The Swan/Dolphin will be to the left, over the bridge, YC/BC will be to the right.
I enjoy the walk if it's not raining or oppressively humid.

BW is right across the lake from the YC/BC. It will take about 8-10 mins to get there from YC. Or, you can take the boat to Epcot..it's next stop will be BW, then it goes on to Epcot.

No bus option from DHS to YC, just boat or walk ... unless boats aren't running due to weather, or it's before they've started in early morning.

Thanks for the info. We do not have hoppers and will be at AK earlier in the day so that is good to know about Epcot.

I think I must have been thinking of the bus from DHS to Epcot.

Makes much more sense to head to DHS then.
Here's something else to think about. When it's time to head back to Pop?? I would just catch a cab. It's very close...fare should be around $10 or so. That way, you don't have to worry about heading to a park to transfer back to Pop, when Pop is about a 5 min cab ride away!

Thanks! Probably will do that. That will let me enjoy walking around the BW area more. We will have our kids though and our son is almost 3, can he ride in a taxi with no car seat?

No. Children 3 and under must be in a car seat. There is no exemption for cabs.

You can get a cab with a car seat, but there's no real guarantee that it will be clean or safe.
