I read on another thread that all 1950, 1960, and 1970 rooms are now preferred. Anyone know if this is true?

I have a September trip booked for a standard room and wanted to request a room in the 1950 section. Is this even possible now? :confused3

Thanks!

Oh, and while I am asking questions......about how long does it take to get to the parks from POP? I mean from the time you reach the bus stop until the time you reach the park entrances.

Thanks again!

Not all of the rooms in the 50's, 60's, and 70's bldgs will be preferred. In fact, some of the rooms that were considered preferred in the 60's will be considered 'standard' now. So, you should be able to get a standard room in any of the sections. At least, that is my understanding at this point.
As far as transportation goes....it all depends on bus arrival times. If you get to the bus stop for, say, MK, and a bus is driving up, then you can hop on and be in MK in about 15 minutes. But, if you get to the bus stop and the bus to MK is just pulling away, well then, you could be waiting for the next bus for up to 20 mins...making the total wait time plus drivetime to be about 30-40 minutes! I have been pretty lucky to date though. Usually it is about a 5-10 minute wait for the bus. Then about 15-20 minutes to most of the parks.

Pop is very much centrally located. Very near to MGM/Studios and Epcot. A short drive to Animal Kingdom. MK would be the longest at about 15 as goofy4tink mentioned.

From what I've been told about, the New perferred rooms (via these boards) will be the closest wings of the 50's, 60's, 70's to the Classic Hall with Pool facing rooms. Makes sense to me, these rooms are geographically closest.

Thanks for the information! Such a wealth of information on the board. :thumbsup2

Just one more question, if I may. How long before check-in day is best to request a particular building?

The best time is when you first make your reservation. Then, when you get to check-in, ask again. When I was at POP several weeks ago, I had requested a non-smoking room, facing the lake, higher floor. I was in bldg 7 (80's section) on the ground floor, but sort of looking at the lake, off to the right. When I asked the CM (who was in training, and hopefully no longer there) if there was anything on the third or fourth floor, she responded with.."Wow, you know, people would kill for your room!!! I think you should be thrilled with it!!" Then went on to regale me with some family stories of hers and then never gave me any POP info packet, just a map with my bldg circled. She was probably the worst CM I have encountered on about 11 trips, working the front desk..not a great first impression to give a guest. But, I digress...
Call asap to make your requests. I have usually gotten pretty much close to all of my requests.

When I talked with POP staff in April, they told me we would only pay for a room in a preferred building if we got a preferred view.
