Pop Century Room Renovations

Spare me the lecture. I know the "rules" but what is the difference in me "dragging" a suitcase and a parent dragging their children. They both "impede egress" . You do what you like and I'll do what I like.
I can't believe I even have to explain this, but a child is a human that is irreplaceable. Comparing a child to a suitcase full of nothing more than fabric and plastic is appalling.

still "impedes egress" that is the truth of the matter.

Oh man, I forgot they started late! We're going May of 2017 and want a preferred room, so I'm just crossing my fingers they'll be ready by then! I suppose we'll have to make it more difficult by needing a tub also - though maybe they will specify that as a room type when 2018 opens up, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Side note - this thread is my first time realizing that many people actually use hotel room dressers on vacation. I basically use my suitcase as a dresser and don't think I've ever fully unpacked it. Anyone else like that, or am I just weird?

We also live out of our suitcases for the week. I thought we were the only ones. Glad we are not alone. lol

LOL. i'm just concerned about the clothing storage. We have four people for 16 nights. It's a lot of clothes for three drawers, two shelves, and that little closet. I think we'll have to ask for more hangers.

I used to ask for extra hangers, but theirs are the wooden type. I now bring the wire ones from the dry cleaners, since you can fit so many more things in the closet (the hangers are super thin versus the thick wooden ones). They take up almost no space in my suitcase.

I don't own many shorts or tee shirts (mostly do sundresses at Disney anyway), so I do laundry 2 times in a week there. To me it's easy - I normally do it early in the morning while the other(s) are still in bed.

If tub or shower become booking categories for 2018, would booking a "shower only" room become a way to assure a remodeled room before they are all finished?
I wouldn't expect it to become a booking category while the renovations are still going on. Until then, tubs Wil outnumber showers. We don't know yet what the final ratio will be.
There doesn't seem to be a laundry cord in the shower any longer?
It's there, just below and to the left of the left-hand door roller.
Was hoping for 50s because they have a pool and laundry close but i wonder if they will have the new rooms done in that section by july. Hmmm.
July 2017? No. It took three months to complete the first two buildings. Even if they start another building tomorrow, it will be way after July that it's ready for occupancy.
I still have not been able to change requests to 90s. It's defaulting back to 80s on its own. I'm planning on calling next week (at my 5 days before checkin) to have them change it to 90s. Fingers crossed that works.
Well, you definitely won't get 80's, so there's hope :)

I always unpack. Hate riffling thru suitcase to find stuff. I feel more organized unpacking my things. 10 to 14 days living out of a suitcase doesn't work for me.

We are staying at Pop the first week of November. Anyone care to venture a guess which buildings will be completed by the end of October?

I will always play the speculation game. Hard to predict, since all we really know is that it took them 3 months to get the first building done, and they started the next two in early May and early June...

But at this point, I'm going to venture that at the end of October they will have the 80s/90s all done and maybe bldg 10 in the 70s. That's my guess - but all I know is what I read here.

We check in August 19 and have two Standard Pool View rooms booked. Right now our only request is connecting rooms. I figure we have a 50/50 chance of getting a refurbished room, hoping most of the computer pool rooms are done, but not sure seeing as how long it took the get the first building done.

I really like the look of the new rooms, and the mattresses look so much more comfortable than the ones Pop has now. This trip, in my room, it is just myself and my two sons (11&12) so other than the loss of the table when the Murphy bed is down I think the new rooms would work well for us. I don't know if I want to add a refurbished room request to our reservation though, the connecting rooms are important to us (traveling with my father and his girlfriend so having two more adults in a connecting room helps bunches) so I am hoping that having that as our only room request will help. I guess we will just leave it to the fates and room assigners to see if we get a new room or not. Either way it will be our first trip to Disney and back to Pop in almost 5 years and we really don't use the rooms too much except to sleep, shower, and maybe part of a mid day break, so while I would love to get a new room it won't ruin the vacation if we don't. Actually my boys might prefer an older room because they love the bowling pin pool so being close to that would make them very happy, lol.

With all this talk about cubby sizes, orange doors, and air mattresses, has anyone else noticed that there don't seem to be any hidden Mickeys in the shower tile work? Now that's a deal breaker!:hyper::earboy2:
Seems to me they're making rooms more generic with every resort refurb. Sad.

Thanks for your comment...my husband and I thought we must be the only crazy ones! I know it's 'each to their own,' but in all honesty, it has never occurred to me to unpack my suitcase on holidays. We all do it differently, don't we?

So where do you all keep your suitcases that you can live out of them?

Do you have to keep lifting them and opening and closing them? We have four suitcases and four carry-ons. We each have our own. I guess I'd have to pack by days instead of by person?

My other issue is I hate clutter. I don't like to see stuff that I feel should be "away." Especially clothes.

I am also afraid of palmetto roaches sneaking into our bags. They hitch rides home in suitcases. I would die. Almost literally. LOL. I keep all the zippers zipped tight.

I do live out of duffel bags when we go camping!
Looking back at the pics in post #1033 the fixed bed is high. I'm betting it's like the cruise ship rooms where raising the bed was to create a spot to slide suitcases under to store. Maybe line up the suitcases you want to live from along the edge under the bed & put things you don't need again until packing up in the center. You can slide the suitcases out & back like a drawer.

Well, unless a bathtub will be a bookable category (and it may be) I can see lots of young families upset when they walk in to just a shower.

But what other resorts offer showers-only in non-accessible rooms? As for charging a premium, I can't see that either.

The YC rooms that are being refurbished also have some shower only non-accessible rooms. Since it isn't complete, can't say whether it will become a booking option or not.

I will say the sliding glass shower doors are a bit of an odd choice. Maybe shower curtains were being taken home as "souvenirs" along with the pillows and bed runners. But to a pp's point, bathing kids in that tub set up is incredibly difficult.
