Pop Century Room Renovations

The rooms can sleep 4 adults but I don't think Disney wants 4 "adults" in one room, they'd rather you book two rooms. I think it's listed that way to allow for the "Disney Adults" ... aka 10+ years old.

The dressers have the equivalent of 5 drawers, it's just two don't slide out. Doesn't make it any less storage than 5 drawers.

The dressers are going the route of many hotels, especially with modern or boutique theme, less dressers/drawers, more cubbies and locker style closets. Glad you never had a broken drawer. I have stayed a lot and have, as well as at moderates. Doors break too but at least there is no mechanics of the sliders that get bent and therefore not shutting. I think from Disney's perspective there is more than enough storage for a family of four for the average stay. Will it make everyone happy?, no, but they are going to design for the masses, for economics and space.

Most guests who find they need more space, storage and furniture than a value move to a bigger room resort or move offsite. Disney wants you to always be looking for a better option and hope that it is a more expensive room of theirs. If you move offsite ... they don't care, they will fill the room no matter.

I get the room doesn't make you happy. When I have had hotels I like change their options to my dismay ... I move on.
Actually I'm VERY happy with the rooms. I've said it several times. I love the new rooms. It's just the one dresser. I just wished for a bit more storage, but as I said I can deal with it.

About to leave for the airport! Just got our room ready message....... we are in 90's :cool1::cool1::banana: grabbing the tape measure! Give me a list of what y'all want measuments of!!

The width of the space between the closet and sink counter (where ironing board is). Considering bringing a portable hanging rack for extra hanging space and wondered if the base was too wide. (I don't use drawers much, but hang a lot of clothes). Thanks for asking!

Personally I wouldn't share a room with 4 adults. I guess I should have specifically said 2 adults and 2 children/teens that can be the size of adults.

From reading the comments here there are a quite few people who feel there isn't enough storage. I think most of us love the new rooms and are just trying to figure out how to make it work for us.

Quick question and sorry if it's been answered 100 times...what buildings do you think they will have completely done by October? I really like the way the new room has a queen bed and my kids would love the murphy bed.

The 90s building is open now, and reportedly both 80s buildings are underway, so probably those 3. It's hard to know how far they'll be though.

No. It was to be done end of April 2018, but then they started late.

Oh man, I forgot they started late! We're going May of 2017 and want a preferred room, so I'm just crossing my fingers they'll be ready by then! I suppose we'll have to make it more difficult by needing a tub also - though maybe they will specify that as a room type when 2018 opens up, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Side note - this thread is my first time realizing that many people actually use hotel room dressers on vacation. I basically use my suitcase as a dresser and don't think I've ever fully unpacked it. Anyone else like that, or am I just weird?

did anyone post a picture of a King room thats been renovated? I thought i saw one but now i cant locate it. i should have saved all the pics to my computer as i sfound them :(

I am the same way. I just take clothes out the night before and leave them on the dresser top.

I looked at them online but I felt they would prevent getting clothes into all the nooks and crannies of a suitcase.
I'll look into them again.
I don't mind the extra expense to make the room work because you can use them more than once.

I know a lot of people get their packing cubes from ebags but someone on the board suggested these from Ikea - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30235115/ which I got last summer and have used on two trips. They are good quality and you can fit a lot in them. Like others have said they make packing so much easier, not just in how things fit in my suitcase but I can pack early without having the suitcase out. I can fit more in my suitcase as well. My last trip I was going to two cities so I put the shorts and tops for one city in one cube and the rest in another so I only had to unpack one cube in each place for my clothes.

I like the rooms and I think the added storage will help organize things better. Our room in Nov looked like our suitcases and exploded even using the drawers and such. There was just stuff on every surface.

Has it been specific in saying only the rooms will be refurbished? Personally I think the refurbishments are going to be throughout the entire resort, including the main pool, landscaping, and Classic Hall.

When I spoke to someone on the phone they said landscaping also.

I can't see offering these nice new rooms and then offering guests the dilapidated dining area. The last time we were there the booths and tables were in bad shape. Correct me if I'm wrong, but have they refurbished the dining seating area in the past few years?

You and I are on the same page. But I feel like our disappointment in the dresser size/number of drawers has been misconstrued into a strong dislike/hatred for the room and furnishings. (I'm not upset or pointing fingers -- I think it's one of those "can't read/convey tone in a typed message" type things.) I love the new rooms but they won't suit the needs of my family right now (for a few reasons) -- there are numerous other resorts at Disney that fall into that category for us as well. I appreciate the suggestions people have offered to possibly make a stay at Pop Century a little more workable for us, but I've tried a few of them (packing cubes and rolling clothes come to mind) and they haven't worked any better for me than the way I currently do things -- though hopefully those suggestions will help others. I know there are other resort options that will work for us and we will continue to use those resorts. We could certainly survive in one (actually we'd need two) of the new Pop Century rooms, but right now, we'll probably continue to stay somewhere else...but look forward to staying at Pop again in the future. I know for me, there is a definite sadness because I really thought we'd stay at Pop on our trip next summer, but I think we'll end up at AoA again -- which is fine because we like it there.

I also believe/agree with what someone else said that this resort is now going to be marketed towards adult couples as opposed to families....not that families can't stay here, but I do think the refurbished rooms are less family friendly than the other Value resorts. I really won't be surprised if they start to modify some of the exterior of the buildings in the next few years -- just "toning things down" and taking away some of the whimsy while keeping with the current theme...or *maybe* they're going to completely change the theme of the resort...

ME too. I live out of suitcase no matter where I go other than a few nicer things I will hang if going somewhere I need dressy. At Disney especially I'm pretty casual. We just line up the suitcases on the floor and use the rack in the closet area. Hang a few things, hooks for jackets. I really like those bath cubbies so we can keep our stuff all away from sink and area Mousekeeping cleans.

Boutique and newer hotels are going the cubbie and wardrobe route. I think once TVs were added to walls it made sense for creating the illusion of more space to not take it up with bulky furniture. I would even be fine it were just a row of cubbies there, that is what B resort has and works well for us and our backpacks etc.

You aren't alone since I never unpack my suitcase. We went to Jamaica for two weeks for our honeymoon and I didn't unpack my suitcase then either. I just pulled items of clothing as I needed them.

Apparently so. LOL.

I've been excited about the new rooms since we saw the first demo pics.

I didn't know what was behind the cabinet doors. A new, larger safe just doesn't thrill me like some people. We all have different needs. I don't bring our laptops or iPads to Disney.

I'm not crazy about reaching into cubbies, or opening and closing suitcases. But it's not a deal breaker. I was just hoping for storage improvement, not just trade offs. I guess my issues arise because we stay for so long.

But I got some tips here and I think I have a plan. Thanks everyone!

Checking in August 26th. Do you think they will have some standard pool view rooms done by then? Any guesses?
They already do.

:thumbsup2: Murphy bed, of course. Height of the beverage center drawer open? For people who want to compute but the Murphy bed I'd open?
As for the breakage mentioned, I would think cabinet doors break easier than drawers. I've never had a broken drawer at Pop.
Cabernet door amazingly easier and cheaper to repair or replace than a drawer.

I used to that before I started using packing cubes. Now with the cubes I put the cubes in the drawers or on a shelf.

To those touting packing cubes....I heard the hype and bought 2 sets. I couldn't even get a portion of my clothes in them and when I went to pack them it was all wonky in the suitcase.
As for the "bureau" suitcase, tried that too. It has a LOT of wasted space for the mechanics/design of it.

Hey @DisneyMom93
I always used to just pack my suitcase however and then put everything in drawers and on hangers and then "pack" as I wore things. Well, after several stays in hotels (not just Disney) where fire alarms have gone off, I now leave stuff in a suitcase. Yes, I am the person that's going to bring my stuff with me. I'm not flying home in my PJs with no wallet/ID and phone.
Anyways, now I just roll and entire outfit up and stack up the rolls. Then when I grab something it has bottom, top and undies all put together.
