The unfinished section of Pop looks like any normal hotel that you would see on the outside of Disney, just not painted. There are no larege icons to look at. It is your standard motel I should say, not even a hotel.... Motel Six, Days Inn, Travel Lodge.. etc.. on that lines. No, I am not putting down Pop. I like it, but when looking at an unfinished Disney "hotel", it is the same as a "motel" off property... realisticly... without the magic added, it is nothing great. Yes, it is an eyesore to look at when you are staying at Pop too. Disney should do something with it, enough time has passed. They are and have been building DVC units, so money isn't the problem. I am wondering if it might be something else :confused3

My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend in Pop Century and saw the abandoned hotels you talked about. When we got home today the first thing we did was look up the reason the hotel was abandoned. It's so strange and eerie just to see an hotel sitting there. My boyfriend suggested that the reason the hotel was never continued was because of 9/11 and the lack of tourism. According to other sites that was just the case. How creepy is it to see an abandoned never finished hotel! I wonder what kind of things are living in it???

As for the water park, is so strange how they just left it. I guess it cost too much to build it so they just assume leave it there....strange.

I have just spent and entire hour reading this whole thread and here is my point of view. Someone mentioned some statistics about the number of rooms at each catagory and a poll about where people stay. Well all stats can be made to come out in favor of one way or another. I think they should finish the Legendary Years with mostly family suites because if you read any threads about where a family of 5 can stay the options are limited. Here is a stat I don't remember reading. Isn't Pop already close to being full a lot of the time. Obvisiously not everyone is staying at Deluxe resorts. I personally am only staying at POR on my next trip because it was the only place for 5 and we want to stay as cheap as possible. We aren't in the room long enough for it to matter. As far as the themeing for the 30's and 40's (love the Monopoly idea-we would stay just for that!) however sadly our history in the 20th century isn't all happy times and roses! Yes there was a depression and WWII but there was also Korea in the 50's Vietnam in the 60's and 70's and those buildings came out fine. There are some Disney things from those years also Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo just to name a few.

I say "Build it and they will come" (think Field of Dreams) I would personally love more value choices. So far I have only stayed at the Movies but I plan to hit them all eventually!

I think they should go for it! I love the era of the 40's! I would really love to stay there. It reminds me of my grandparents who got married in 1944 and danced at their wedding to a song called String of Pearls...! I can see sailors dancing with ladies in pretty dresses!

If the powers that be at Disney decided tomorrow to finally finish Pop, how long do you think it would take to complete?

I think the family suites idea is brilliant. They tried it at ASMu, and it worked. They are a huge hit. Why not make more??? I so wish they would.

They would most likely have to tear down the exisiting buildings and start from scratch. I feel they would make it a DVC hotel, as Disney seems to think everyone wants that, I for one, Don't.:sad2: They are busy right now, with Contemporary DVC and AKL DVC so I don't see any of those buildings being worked on till 2009 and maybe completed by 2010.;)

Most people disagree with that. It looks like they could clean it pretty easily and continue from where they are at. The buildings are mostly concrete.

Disney can build anything they want...including finishing POP without starting over...When I was there in Jan...There was activity there lots cars trucks people walking around..no construction..just a lot of people...

They are at this point = 100% concrete. Some of the rooms in one of the buildings are wallboarded but that can come out easily enough.

The floors, walls, ceilings etc.. are concrete or brick. A good pressure washing with the right cleaning stuff and you're good to go. This is of course providing the structural integrity of the buildings are intact.

In terms of activity on that side of the resort, currently the backside of the Legendary Hall (the main building) is used as a staging area for resort maintenance people. You see the golf carts sometimes popping back and forth.

There was -- as of June 2nd -- no construction activity of any kind on the Legendary years side of the property.

In my own opinion, I think there will be something developed on that land, probably the rest of Legendary Years, by 2010.

So sad! That is a very true point. River Country is a sore sight as well, and with a name like Disney, this just isn't something you'd expect. :sad2:

I agree, the family suites are an affordable way for families to be able to stay on site and more could definetly be used. Pop Legendary is the perfect chance.:)

Can you imagine how amazing it would be if Disney announced that they were going to finish the Legendary Years? Imagine: future family suites. Finally Generation Gap Bridge would actually have a purpose :cloud9:

It's sad to see uncompleted/abandoned things at WDW. Doesn't seem right somehow. :sad2:

Wow, I'm disgusted. I just booked Pop for a couple nights in January, but had I looked at these photos first, I may have went elsewhere. :sad2:

Is that mess visible from the rooms that are currently open?:confused3

Has anyone ever contacted Disney for comments on the sad state of the Legendary Years? Just wondering what their response was.

There are lots of other sights to keep your field of vision from including the empty buildings. Just focus on the bright colors and giant icons!:lmao:

I actually have mixed feelings because if they do finish off the other rooms I fear it would impact the bus situation.

You can see it, but not that well. It is across the lake. And depending where your room is, you may never see it if you don't go looking for it.

While I could not see it from my room in the 90's section I did notice it anytime I returned to the resort on the bus......

That is a really good point about what impact that side of the resort may have on the buses!
