Pool closure at OKW - shuttle to SSR!

As we were deciding where to stay late in Sept, I was concerned about the pool closure at OKW - found out from the regular reservation number (non-DVC) that they will have a complimentary shuttle from OKW to the new pool at SSR during the pool closure. So - if there isn't anything else available (we can't make ressies until Sept 17th), it shouldn't be too bad. Thought ya'll might be interested....

Strange that they would have a shuttle, with OKW having 3 other pools. Unless they were referring to the normal DVC ferry boat service.

I think Chuck S is correct. With 3 other pools I doubt there would be a shuttle, probably the ferry or worse shared buses. You can walk to SSR without much effort also.

I could see them putting in a shuttle bus to alleviate overcrowding on the boat. It will also ease possible crowding at the Turtle Pond pool to allow the adventurous to head over to SSR.

Yeah, but pools go into rehab at regular Disney resorts, some of which only have one large pool, and they don't provide special shuttle service to a nearby resort. And with OKW have 3 other nice pools, would a shuttle be necessary in the "slow season"?

Not sure- just letting you know what they are telling people who are booking OKW that are concerned about the "Major" pool being worked on. I know quite a few people who feel having the large pool open is important and won't want to book there without an alternantive. Anyway - if anyone is really concerned I suppose they could call OKW and see what the CM's there have to say! Thanks!

Actually, whenever they close the main pool at the Boardwalk, they have shuttle boats to take people over to Stormalong Bay, so I imagine this is the same type of thing, to allow a 'featured' pool for guests rather than only having quiet pools available.

I remember when they announced the OKW pool closing they specifically mentioned that guests could use the SSR pool. I thought it was strange that they only mentioned the SSR pool because we can pool hop to most of the Disney resort pools. Because they specifically mentioned SSR I always thought they would provide transportation for OKW people heading to SSR to use the pool. I guess time will tell. We will be staying there in October.

Keep in mind that there is a percentage of rooms being rented out for cash not on DVC points. In the case of OKW being so large even a small percentage could equate to a fairly large number of paying guests. These guests are not able to Pool Hop like us DvCers so it only make sense to offer them the opportunity to go to SSR. For one the pool was built to accomodate a large resort that is not even half built yet. Secondly they may actually be able to generate interest in more potential Dvcers that way (not that they need any help). And finally it would not be fair to those paying cash rates to not let them have access to a "feature pool". That being said it will be interesting what kind of transportation (if any) they provide for this but I am quite certain that the use of SSRs pool will be provided during this time period for all guest at OKW.

Last October while we were staying at BWV, just the slide at the main pool was closed and they were letting BWV guests use SAB. They were using golf carts to take guests to and from SAB. I would imagine if they would shuttle people between BWV and SAB they will shuttle them between OKW and SSR.

Try the SSR pool, we had a great time there in May!
