Ponchos versus Jackets

I usually get the Disney poncho...however they do not last. They always end up tearing, especially in the front around the neck...so I have to buy a new one each year. I am thinking about just bringing a rain jacket instead.

I had the old yellow Disney poncho's forever. I just gave mine to my niece since it was a kids one. Since i am now too big for it.

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm going to keep my rain jacket that I purchased a couple of days ago.

I'm still undecided over the kids however. I think they would prefer a rain jacket - I'm just not sure how much use they would get out of them. Cost ticks me off when they outgrow them so quickly. $25 for my 6 year old, and $40 for my 11 year old.

I'll be honest with you. I'd rather get wet with rain then wear either. When your in Florida its always hot and humid and the rain feels good. But i would say get poncho's they'll be easier to carry around in the parks. We got some last year from the dollar store. Or if you want you can buy some in the parks.

I disagree - it's awful to be wet, then go to an indoor attraction or store that is heavily air-conditioned. You just freeze! Unfortunately, it's not "always" hot and humid in Florida (just check out the recent temperatures!).

I tried a rain jacket my first trip, and found it didn't cover me well enough. It barely went down to mid-thigh and my shorts and legs got very wet.

I have tried cheap $1 ponchos, and WDW ponchos, and have finally settled on the nicer ponchos you can buy at sporting goods stores. The cheap ponchos and even WDW ponchos are fairly flimsy and tend to stick to you when wet - it drives me crazy to have to keep "picking" the wet poncho off of my legs with every step I take. The nicer ponchos (they cost around $10) are made of sturdier material that "stands away" from your body, so they don't cling to you when wet. Plus they're longer, and cover you down to your knees (and you can even fit a small backpack underneath).

That is something I worried about with jackets...

The definite drawback to a rain jacket is that if it hits you mid-thigh then all the water runs off and SOAKS your pants. We have rain jackets and ponchos and umbrellas in our Owners Locker so we can sort of choose according to the specific weather on a given day.
