We were there from July 3-14.

I wish they had set up some different way to do the appetizers in the evenings so that it didn't take so long. People were lined up halfway down the hall every night. They kept the wine and food well stocked but there had to be a different setup that would have cut down on the LONG wait time. We also saw a couple of families that had their non-concierge family/friends in the lounge for appetizers every evening they were there. That was rather annoying given the limited number of space and the long wait times. They replinished the cordials (8-10PM) but there weren't many desserts left after 9:15 PM. We did see some food/wine hoarding. A couple of people would bring in big box tops and clean out everything in sight. Even the stuff on the kids' table. The staff always brought out more. (very good staff members in the lounge :) )

There was never a wait when we went up for breakfast.

July 4th...the beach was a huge mess. I never saw anyone check ID's although there was plenty of security out. For the most part, the people that came in for the fireworks were very nice. But there were those that dragged away every chair in sight (even from the patios) and took huge stacks of pool towels.

When we checked in, the room smelled yukky kind of like a litterbox. They ran the ion thing and changed the filter and it was fine for the rest of our stay. :D The staff said that it had been very rainy before we arrived and a lot of guests would go out on the balcony and leave the patio doors open which was what caused the musty icky odor.

Housekeeping...our room was always very clean. Most days it was after 4PM before they made up our room. I think it was because we were on the end of the hall.

One thing I'd never seen there before...people leaving bags of trash outside of their rooms. Between the turndown service and morning housekeeping, it was emptied twice a day. I'm not sure why so many people felt the need to leave theirs out in the hallway.

Yikes gepetto ~ I don't think I could have been as forgiving and gracious as you not mentioning the non-concierge family to the CM's

It wouldn't bother me if the lounge was quiet ~ but with an obviously high occupancy I may have said something.

How were the pools and the bus transportation? ~ I heard the new bus stop is now complete.

Did you enjoy the parks and have you any great restaurant reviews for us?

Thanx in advance

We reported the same nonsense after our June stay. There really isn't much the poor staff can do when the concierge building is housing an additional 40 rooms! There have been a good many folks upgraded *a note of moderate jealousy creeps in here* to concierge because the Polynesian has been fully booked and they need the rooms.

Perhaps some of the "guests" bringing in "guests" has something to do with that, i.e., two or three families traveling together--one family gets the big bump and the others share the wealth? I've also heard from CMs that local visitors (no insult to those fellow Disers from FL) will rent a room or two for a holiday weekend and then crash as many folks into a room as they can fit--maybe you experienced some of that behavior.

What room did you have--you said it was an end room? Our room, 1014, smelled like cat urine too--it was actually mold and it wasn't caused by someone leaving a door open! Ionization and filter change didn't do the trick for us, but I'm very happy it did for you!

I agree with you wholeheartedly--that dining set-up leaves much to be desired. There is no way to make it flow efficiently--at least in my view. Those tables set up outside the elevators and between the two service doors--just doesn't cut it. I can't wait to get back to Hawaii--and I know the lounge staff agrees with that one! ;) We also saw the box tops (beverage case cartons) being used to load up food for others. I don't know why they didn't have the trays used in the Hawaii lounge? For those poor people just trying to carry a plate or two and a couple of drinks--it was a juggling act with the crowds!

I hope your trip was otherwise wonderful! Here's to the return to Hawaii in 2004! :jester:

LOL...how funny Tess...we had 2014 one floor up from you. I was glad they fixed the smell right away because the view was very nice where we were and I didn't want to change rooms.

The trays like they had in Hawaii would have been nice but I'm sure there was some reason they didn't have them.

The bus service was ok and the new bus stop was really cute. The busses were often really full early in the mornings when it got there since they share with Contemporary. That was the only time we ever had a problem. It was fine getting back from the parks in the afternoon. The Tahiti building is priceless since it is so close to TTC. I have yet to see a resort that has bus service equal to AKL. :)
