As some of you may be aware I developed a minor cake obsession before we left

I REALLY wanted to find a way to taste some of the different cake flavors. I was just starting to feel that being an Escape bride we were really missing out on some of the joys of the planning experience... namely EATING CAKE! So I talked with my consultant about the possibility of paying extra to do a cake tasting and got a definate no on this. I called the Grand Floridian Bakery and Boardwalk Bakery and was told that it was only possible to do cake tasting if you were having a wedding and that I needed to talk to my consultant. I looked into doing mini cakes but my only flavor options were vanilla and chocolate. I looked into doing full size cakes and got a "maybe"... the cakes would have to be 10" or larger and they connected me to the "cake liason" at the Grand Floridian bakery. Now this lady was very helpful but she still said that flavors other than chocolate and vanilla were hard to do unless for a large cake such as a wedding cake. She thought she may be able to do marble but said red velvet or lemon with passionfruit mousse (what I was really curious to try) would not be possible

By the time I got ahold of this lady after randomly calling around for over a week it was only 2 days before we left so I decided to scrap the idea. But I did make a point of searching out cake while I was in WDW

I drove poor DF nuts that after 2 days he forbid me from dragging him anywhere else looking for cake. In the end I managed to taste 4 different cakes from WDW, none of which will be the choice for my wedding cake

Our first lunch at the resort I got carrot cake as my dessert option- yep I'm counting it as cake

I actually thought it was really good considering it came in a plastic bowl- it even had cream cheese frosting. I started considering it for the wedding cake bc hey if Disney can make good quick service carrot cake they have to make awesome wedding cake carrot cake... then DF fessed up that he doesn't like carrot cake really

You think he would have mentioned this before since I have been asking him continuously about wedding cake flavors and he always says "Whatever you want is fine"
My next "cake" experience was actually that same night at the Poly. We had dinner at Ohana and everything was excellent this time. Even the pork and turkey which had been dry and oversalted last time were moist and perfectly flavored. When we checked in they gave us the "Just Married" buttons... it was on the reservation that we were there planning our wedding but they said they didn't have buttons for that

I was thrilled to get these though bc they were on my list of things to pick up since I heard they were being discontinued. I'm not sure how true that rumor is bc I did see lots of celebration buttons around, however, I did also see lots of the new green generic "I'm Celebrating" buttons so who knows! Anyways at the end of dinner they brought us out a cupcake which was really nice. There was no way I could eat it then though bc we had already eaten so much and had to eat the awesome bread pudding dessert so they boxed it up for us and I had it for breakfast- yum! It was yellow cake with buttercream frosting, classic goodness but nothing exciting.
Then my last cake experience was on Monday of our trip. On our way back from Epcot I convinced DF to take the friendship boat and stop on the Boardwalk so I could visit the Boardwalk Bakery. He had never seen any of the Epcot resorts so he agreed to my little side trip. They had 3 cake options...
1) Carrot Cake (which DF had already vetoed so we didn't try)
2) Chocolate Mousse Cake- Very good but VERY chocolately- too much chocolate for me so I only had a few bites. I really liked the texture of the mousse though, it was firmer than I expected- not sure if the wedding cake mousse will be the same. It was a really thick layer of mousse too- if you love chocolate you must try this
3) Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake- now I had heard lots about this cake and didn't think it sounded like something I would really like. As mentioned above I can only do so much chocolate and mixed with PB it just seemed like it would be WAY to rich. It was REALLY rich but the PB was lighter and sweeter than I expected so it was a little better balanced than I expected. DF liked it too but between the two of us we still had a hard time finishing the piece so we decided there was no way we would be able to finish a whole cake.
By this time DF told me my obsession had to end, but I did sneak a look the next day in MK at the bakery on Main St but they had the same options as Boardwalk. I kept cake on my radar the rest of the trip but didn't really see anything else that I could try
