That is a great story about Disney's customer service and without seeing the new pair, the original ones look really nice!

Disney really handled the situation above and beyond how I expected. I mean really, how do you end up with 2 sets of engraved champagne glasses and not get charged for either! It's not like I'm one of those people who is good at complaining and getting stuff for free either! I do really like the first set too, I almost got them but DF and I decided on the other castle for no particular reason- now we have both:confused3

So I think we've picked an officiant... MY DAD!:rotfl: Here's the story:

My brother is getting married in 2 weeks. Last weekend my mom and I flew to MI to throw a bridal shower for his fiance. While we were there I was talking to my brother and his fiance about the wedding and I asked if they needed help with anything... and he says to me "I was meaning to ask you this... Do you think you could set up your I-Pod to play 'Here Comes the Bride' when Kylee walks down the aisle?":scared1: Yes he was totally serious! First of all I'm not a big fan of who comes the bride (no offense to anyone who is), Secondly I have an I-pod but wouldn't know how to hook it up to a sound system so that 150 people could hear it:rotfl: So I start asking some more details about the ceremony... what are the bridesmaids walking down to, seating of the mothers, any music during the ceremony, etc and it's clear they haven't even considered these things. So I ask, "Well who is marrying you?" Answer: "Ummmm.... we're not exactly sure yet, I was planning on doing that next week!":scared1::eek::scared1::eek:

So I offer to take care of finding ceremony music for them but told them they need to find someone to marry them ASAP!!!!! I found a cello/violin duet to play. The cello player is the head of the Great Lakes Chamber Players and is head of the music department at Central Michigan University. He didn't have anything scheduled for the day so he offered to do it for $100 less than his usual fee :cool1: and then to help us save even more money he found one of his master's students instead of a professional to play the violin (he it's got to be better than me trying to work my iPod). So the total for the 2 is $300 which I didn't think was too bad but my brother said he can't swing it. So my mom and I are splitting the cost as part of his wedding gift.

Still, no officiant though. So my mom of course told my dad so he went online and became an "Ordained Minister" for $39.95, he had to pay an extra $30 to put a rush on it too:lmao: So for a grand total of about $70 he is ready to do the job:thumbsup2 I was a bit skeptical but he called the courthouse and they said it was legit- he can now marry people. He said he didn't really want to do my brother's ceremony bc he didn't have much time to prepare and didn't want to be up in front of 150 people but he would if he had to. Now I think my brother FINALLY found someone to marry him but my dad mentioned he would really like to marry Ryan and I. We talked about it some because at first I just thought it seemed weird that you could just go online and then be qualified to marry someone but then the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea.

When I was married before we used the minister from the church we both attended. It was a very nice ceremony and we continued to be very involved in the church (we were youth group leaders). When things started falling apart, even though my husband at the time tried to cover it up for a long time, it eventually became known that he had been unfaithful and our marriage on the rocks, that pastor never once contacted us to try to counsel us through it. Given I could have called him and asked for help but my point is: Atleast I know if my marriage is on the rocks that my dad is going to call and try to support us through it. No pastor I find online that lives in Florida is ever going to support us in our marriage the way my dad will. Plus this way I get to write the whole ceremony and know that he will follow it.

Now the only problem was that I couldn't figure out how my dad would walk me down the aisle, turn around and quickly ask who was going to give me away, turn around again and answer his own question. But I think I have found the solution- We will have DF's dad say a little opening statement and then say "Who gives this woman to marry my son?" Then my dad will say "Her mother and I do", he'll give me away and then start the ceremony:thumbsup2

DF's Dad: “Friends & Family, we have been invited here today to share with Adelia and Ryan a very important moment in their lives. In the years they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife.”

DF's Dad: "Who gives this woman to be married to my son?”

My Dad: “Her Mother and I do”

Opening Prayer prepared by My Dad

A Word About Marriage prepared by My Dad

Declaration of Intent
I charge you both as you stand in the presence of God and your family, to remember that love and loyalty alone are the foundation of a happy and an enduring home. No other human ties are more sacred than those you are about to make. If these vows be kept unbroken, your life will be full of joy and the home which you are now establishing will abide in peace. Therefore, in the presence of God and in the presence of all of the witnesses here, I will ask you to state your intentions. Ryan and Adelia, have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?

“Yes, we have”

Ryan, do you take Adelia, whose hand you now hold, choosing her alone to be your wife?
Ryan answers “I do”
Will you love, cherish, comfort and keep her; above all remaining faithful to her throughout your lives?
Ryan answers “I will”

Adelia, do you take Ryan, whose hand you now hold, choosing him alone to be your husband?
Adelia answers “I do”

Will you love, cherish, comfort and keep him; above all remaining faithful to him throughout your lives?
Adelia answers “I will”

Wedding Vows
(Not sure if we will repeat vows, memorize, or read them- they're kinda long, maybe we'll cut them down some)

(Groom)
Adelia, I love you.
You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to nurture your dreams,

to always listen to you, encourage and inspire you.
I promise to laugh with you in times of joy
and always keep a sense of humor
I promise to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
For there is nothing we cannot face if we stand together.

I promise to love you when life seems easy and when it seems hard,
when our love is simple, and when it is an effort.
I promise to be your partner in all things,

Not possessing you, but working with you as a part of the whole
I promise to respect you in your successes and in your failures.
I promise to trust you and to be kind, patient, and forgiving.
I will try in every way to be worthy of your love.
I will always be honest with you
And faithful to you.
These things I give to you today,
and all the days of our life.

(Bride)

Family Vow of Support
“Now that you have heard Ryan and Adelia recite their marriage vows, do you, their family, promise from this day forward, to encourage them and love them, and to help guide and support them in being steadfast in the promises they have made?” If you agree, please say, “We do.”

Blessing of the Rings
“Around the world the wedding rings are the strongest and most visible sign of the bond Ryan and Adelia are making today. A commitment to life, to each other, and to the future. I ask that each guest hold them for a moment, warm them with your love and make a silent wish for Ryan and Adelia, and their future together. When these rings come back they will contain, in their precious metal, that which is more precious, that which is priceless – your love, hope, and pledge of support for their union.”

(Dad says blessing out loud for rings then hands Adelia’s ring to Ryan)

Exchange of Rings
“Adelia with this ring,
I give you my promise that from this day forward,
you shall not walk alone.
My heart will be your shelter
and my arms will be your home.”

(Dad hands Ryan’s ring to Adelia)

“Ryan with this ring,
I give you my promise that from this day forward,
you shall not walk alone. My heart will be your shelter
and my arms will be your home.”

Sand Ceremony
“For centuries the hourglass has been considered an enduring symbol of the passage of time so it is appropriate that you have chosen to create a hourglass to symbolize the beginning of your life together as husband and wife. Each of you has brought with you sand that holds a personal memory to you and symbolizes your life prior to the other. Today as you come together in marriage you will mix together the sands from your lives. It will continue to combine over the years together, as will you. As the flows it will carry with it the special memories of this day and those of many years come as husband and wife”

MUSIC, sand mixing and Lei Exchange

“I ask that wherever you make your home now and in the future - whether it be large and elegant or small and modest - that you both pick one special place for this hourglass and every night before you fall asleep, you turn it over together and watch the sand flow through it and remember how you felt for one another on this, your wedding day, and how your love continues to grow.

In every part of life, there are challenges. Marriage is no different. It is sometimes easiest to hurt or be hurt by the ones we love the most. It might be difficult at times to find the words to say what you really mean. If this should happen, simply look to the sand flowing through the hourglass- for that hourglass says with its memories what matters most of all. This hourglass will bring you back to this very moment in time when you first filled it together, and you will remember the love. It will say the words you perhaps cannot - such as “I am sorry”, “I forgive you”, “I love you.”

Ryan & Adelia, as you think back and remember this day always remember that it was love that brought you here today, and it is only by true love and God’s grace that your marriage shall last forever.”

Any Additional Closing Remarks by Dad

Declaration of Marriage
Ryan and Adelia
with the support of your families,
by the vows you have made to one another,
by the strength of your covenant,
and in the presence of God,
by the power invested in me by the State of Florida I am honored to pronounce you “Husband and Wife.”
You may kiss the bride.

Apache Wedding Blessing
“Now you will feel no rain

For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now each of you will feel no cold

For each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there is no loneliness for you

For each of you will be companion to the other.

Now you are two persons

But there is one life before you.

Go now to your dwelling place to enter into the days of your togetherness

And may your days be good and long upon the earth.”

It is my honor to present to you Mr & Mrs Ryan Harp!

What does everyone think? Has anyone seen the 'ring warming ceremony'- I just found this the other day and thought it would be a nice touch since we are having such an intimate wedding? Any opinions are welcome since we don't have a true professional to guide us!

Sorry I've been MIA again, I've been back in MI throwing a bridal shower for my FSIL, interviewing for a job, and looking for housing (we are moving back to MI in August when DF graduates). The shower went off perfectly (will post pics eventually), I accepted the job today, still haven't found housing but we have some time:thumbsup2 So back to the wedding!!!!

So when we went to Disney last month one of the things on my list of what I needed to pick up for the wedding was our toasting flutes. Now I told DF that we needed to get toasting flutes and his response was "Huh?" And I repeated "We need to pick up some toasting flutes"... DF's reaction "Toasting foods like bread and bagels?????":lmao: Me..."No you idiot- toasting FLUTES for the wedding" DF "Oh ok that makes more sense... what are toasting flutes?":rotfl: Boys are seriously clueless, I now call them champagne glasses so he doesn't get confused.

So anyways after we got confirmation that we got our date I was eager to get our champagne glasses and have them engraved. DF thought we should just wait and get them when we came back for the actual wedding but I was just so excited to have our date be official I felt the need to engrave it on something! So we ordered them at the crystal place on Main St in MK and had them sent to the resort. I was a little worried about this but the guy who does the engraving said it would be fine- that they do the resort delivery all the time... bet you can see where this is going. We ordered them on Wednesday and they were supposed to be delivered on Thursday which was perfect bc my parents were coming and they would be able to take them home with them for safe keeping til the wedding (they live in FL).

So Thursday after spending a wonderful day at Epcot with my parents we stopped in the Gift shop at All-Star Movies to pick up the glasses. When the staff member brought them out she said, "I'll have you open it to check your merchandise before you sign"- As I took the box I heard the rattling of broken glass, I smiled and said "That sounds like a good idea". So I opened them and they were shattered beyond recognition. My mom was standing with me and was absolutely horrified- I knew Disney would make it right so I didn't feel the need to freak out. I was only a little upset bc I knew I would have to listen to DF say "told you we should've waited til we cam back for the wedding"- which he of course said:headache: The staff member handled it very well, she assured me it would be fixed. I was mainly worried about the engraving being correct but she said that the keep a file of it at the store and also took detailed instructions that she sent back to the store in case they had any questions. The biggest deal to me was that since my parents were leaving that night I was now going to have to transport the glasses to MN with me, then to MI when we move, and then back to FL:eek:

So the next night, Friday night we received a call that the glasses were ready to be picked up:banana: So we arrive and open them and they are in one piece, the engraving looks beautiful-

We had our monogram on the back of the glass (sorry couldn't get the best pic bc of the design on the other side):

DSC02578.jpg

And our date engraved on the base (once again not a good pic but you get the idea):

DSC02573.jpg

HOWEVER, it was not the right design:sad2::scared1: We had originally ordered the design with the castle and Walt Disney World engraved underneath. These were the ones with the top of the castle, a classic Mickey, and swirls underneath. (Don't know why I can't get it rotated)

DSC02568.jpg

These were my second choice so I was internally debated whether to even say anything. The lady noticed something was wrong and asked so I told her. Once again she was very apologetic and went and got a manager to assist her. I told them I should have listened to DF and waited to get them til we came for the wedding:guilty:- I asked them if I could just get my money back and that I would buy them in December. The manager said "I'm sure we can make this right. How about you keep the incorrect glasses free of charge and we will have the correct glasses ready for you tomorrow." BIG problem, we were leaving tomorrow (Saturday). She asked what time we were departing - 3 pm- and she said she was sure they would be there before then so I figured... why not?

Of course the next day when we went to pick up our glasses at 2:50 pm they were not back yet. Once again the staff handled it very well, getting a manager involved right away. They were again very apologetic and promised to make it right, they refunded my money and assured me that they would have the glasses mailed to me and that they would arrive in 7-10 days free of charge. I thought this was above and beyond what they needed to do so I happily agreed.

Well it has been almost a month since we arrived home and there was still no sign of the champagne glasses. I was not worried about it since my bank account was not hurt at all by the ordeal and I had one free set of glasses that I could use. I really liked the other ones better but now these ones had a fun story and they were my second pick anyways- so I was thinking I would maybe just use them. Well... guess what arrived in the mail today? Yep the correct glasses, with the correct engraving, completely intact and beautiful! I will take pics of them and post them soon. So now I have 2 sets of Disney engraved champagne glasses, not totally decided on which ones I will use or what I will do with the extra set but I have a prediction for what will happen though... somehow I will manage to break one from each set and we will end up with a mismatched set:lmao:

What an awesome story! :) At first I was sad like, "oh no,"...but Im glad that you were able to finally recieve the glasses that you wanted. Maybe you can use the glasses (the 2nd choice) for your first anniversary or something, look back on this time and have a laugh. :)

I think its a lovely idea. Its going to mean soooo much more with your father. I would totally get emotional over my father reciting my vows for me to say to my husband. :)

My mom was totally thinking I was going to freak out when the glasses were broken at first... I think she was expecting it to be my big bridezilla moment:rotfl: I knew Disney would fix it, and they fixed it WAY beyond my expectations. I think I will just plan on using whichever set I don't manage to break during our move and the transport down there:lmao: Otherwise I'm thinking I could use one for the cake reception and the others at dinner!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my make-up is going to be totally streaked and ruined! My dad has a lot of health problems so I get really emotional about anything with him, I'm just glad for everyday we still have him around:goodvibes

I should have posted this before but somehow don't think I did:confused3 but this is BIG NEWS!!!!!

WE UPGRADED OUR HONEYMOON:banana::banana::banana: Some of you may remember that I got that awesome PIN code for 45% off our resort stay so I booked our honeymoon awhile ago. We had originally wanted concierge level at Poly with an MK view, we figured it was our honeymoon and we were going to get our dream room! However with our code concierge MK view wasn't valid, I was only given an option of garden view concierge or non-concierge MK view (both were the same price), so I chose the latter since I have always wanted a view of the castle. Our dream room without the discount was WAY more than using the code so the extra $ didn't seem worth it.

Well when we visited the Poly in April I got really bummed bc I really love the location of the Hawaii building (which is all concierge rooms). It by far has the best views of the castle, the beach by it is gorgeous, it's close to both pools, and the main building- not to mention it's right by Sunset Pointe:lovestruc. I started obsessing that I wouldn't be happy with the location of where our other room would be or that the castle view wouldn't be all that amazing. So we decided that we would try to change our reservation to concierge level garden view- we thought we could just lay in the hammocks on the beach each night to enjoy the castle view before heading to bed. Well when I called and told the guy I wanted to change our honeymoon reservation to stay concierge level he said "I assume you want the MK view still correct?" OF COURSE I DO! I clarified that I would be able to use the same code and he said of course... so it's settled- we got our amazing discount and the room of my dreams:love:

I LOVE THE JEWELRY!!! It's perfect! I'm so excited you are getting the room that you want. I love the toasting flutes...and glad disney is doing what they can to make it right.
