PolynesianBride'sPJ 12/6/10 Sunset Pointe- TEASER PICS UP!

I love all your details!
Waiting on the mini TR!
It's coming I promise! I think I finally have the new computer figured out enough!
Adelia,

Those shells are really pretty and I like the coral idea for the rings!! Can't wait for the TR!!
I'm glad you like the coral idea... I debated on it forever! I had originally thought I would put the rings in a shell too but couldn't find one that looked right next to the shells for the rings... so my dad came up with the idea. :goodvibes I'm posting the first bit of the mini-TR now!

My parents retired in Naples, FL several years ago and it just so happens that Kelly (KCampbell) also lives there! So we were able to meet up for coffee before I left for Disney! It was too fun to meet her in person and to hear all about her amazing Disney wedding experience and her recent anniversary trip! Here's a picture to prove we actually met;):

And so the TR begins! Let me just preface by saying I have never done a TR or any type of blogging or journaling so just bear with me. I am glad I am attempting one before my actual wedding one bcd looking back there are things that I should have taken pics of that I didn't. The initial resort pics are from our last trip to POP bc I didn't even think to take any this time! But it's a start… enjoy!

So Tuesday morning my dad drove me to the Ft Meyers airport to pick up my rental car. There are closer car rental places but this way I could just return it Sunday morning when I flew back to MN. I picked up my little white 2-door Chevy Cobalt, pulled out my brand new Garmin and was on my way!!!! I got to Orlando shortly after noon and Jodi's flight didn't get in til 2:30 so I went to POP to get some lunch and see if I could check-in.

DSC01574.jpg

Now this is only the third time I have stayed on Disney property so I am by no means an expert and don't have much to compare it to but I think POP is a great place to stay. Our first trip to Disney we stayed at Coronado Springs which was nice but our next trip we stayed at POP and don't think I would stay at Coronado again. It's just not worth the extra money in my opinion. POP is just a very FUN resort, if you're going with kids I think they would LOVE it there. For those of you that haven't been it is themed off of what was popular in different decades.

DSC01573.jpg

So the buildings are named after different decades and feature larger than life replicas of things that were popular during that time.

DSC01576.jpg

DSC01577.jpg

There is also plenty of classic Disney theming thrown in too.

DSC01579.jpg

I really wish I would have taken more pics around the resort because there is so much to see! This next pic was taken from our room the last time, we were in the 60's building on the 3rd floor (which was an excellent location).

DSC01580.jpg

I would recommend getting a preferred room at this resort. It is such a big resort that if you don't you could end up with a LONG walk to the food court and bus stops.

Two of the things I love about POP are that the food court area has great selection and the bus service going TO the parks is great. At Coronado you had to make several stops before leaving the resort while at POP there is one large bus stop out front so once you're on you go straight to the parks- no extra stops! The only problem I found with staying at POP this time was the bus service coming home from the parks. Because POP is such a big resort there were HUGE lines to get back at park close- about an hour wait just to get on the bus both times. They had buses coming- sometimes 2 at a time to pick people up but our line was just soooo much longer than the other resorts. If you just left a little before park close you could probably easily miss the rush but we were trying to see as much as possible so spent every last minute we could in the parks. It was just frustrating to look around and all the other resorts bus stops have no one left waiting and you know that you won't even make it on the next bus that comes!

So amazingly enough when I went to check-in our room was ready even though check-in isn't technically till 3 pm! When I checked in they told me that we had a gift from the Disney Florist and asked if it was ok to have it delivered to our room... now I had no idea who would have known about the Disney Florist to send me something but I was sooooo excited:banana: Our room was in the 70's building on the ground level on the corner closest to the food court. I paid for a "preferred" room and the lady said this was one but I know my parents stayed in the 70's before as a regular room. When we previously stayed in a "preferred" room at POP we were in the 60's and had a room overlooking the pool (which was a much nicer location). If DF was there I would have changed it bc he loved the location of our last room but I didn't think it was a bad location by any means and was happy to be able to drop my bags off in the room before I headed to the airport.

So I went and got some lunch in the food court. As I mentioned before I really like the food court at POP- the selection just seemed to be a lot better than even Coronado but other than that I don't have much to compare it to. My favorite all-time thing to get there is the reuben flatbread- it is soooo yummy! And I picked up a refillable mug as well:

DSC02100.jpg

I always get the refillable mug but was a little disappointed to find they no longer offer juice or milk. You would think I was 2 but that's what I drink for breakfast! All they have now is soda, coffee, hot chocolate, and iced tea- which is fine but in the am I love juice and there's nothing like milk with Mickey waffles.

After that I went to the gift shop to pick up our ears! Now I have never worn ears at Disney before but Jodi said she was really excited to wear ears so I thought it would be fun to give them to her at the airport along with her first visit button. She had said she wanted the classic ears and I picked up the Minnie headband with the black sequin ears for myself and off I went to the airport!
Here she is when I picked her up at the airport:
DSC02101.jpg

When we got back to the room our gift from the Disney florist was waiting for us!

DSC02102.jpg

It was from DF, he's so sweet I didn't think he even knew about the Disney Florist- I though I had mentioned it before but figured he wasn't listening… turns out he wasn't:lmao:- he said he saw it in our Birnbaum Guide that he loves! They were classic Mickey ears with 2 Mickey Rice Krispy treats, 2 packs of trail mix, a pocket-guide to Disney, and a re-usable shopping bag that folds up to look like Mickey ears! So cute! And he was of course thoughtful enough to send one to BOTH of us… a smart man never forgets it's important for your friends to like him!

DSC02103.jpg

Jodi loved it and started to get all teary eyed and we called him right away to thank him! (The only problem was that now Jodi had 2 pairs of classic Mickey ears but luckily they let us exchange them for a different style… she got the silver Minnie headband.) So we got changed and headed out for our dinner reservation at Kona!

Up next… Day 1 continues at the Polynesian

Yay! Now I get to hear about your Disney trip! I'm sure yours was much more exciting! :rolleyes1 :lmao: I LOVE the coral for your rings- that is such a great idea. Good Job Adelia's dad! :thumbsup2 and I like your mom's dress b/c that color will be really stunning on.

Talk about capturing a moment-- that pic of your friend in her Mickey ears is Priceless!! And way to go Ryan on the Disney Floral gifts! They are adorable and had to've been such a treat! Thank goodness for Birnbaum right? He is just making himself look better and better on the DIS (b/c I'm sure he was very concerned. LOL).

Oh and the pic of us turned out cute! Although I would guess most people would look at that photo and think I live in MN and you live in FL! I really need some sun! Thank goodness for your Iphone or else we'd have no proof! :rotfl: It was definitely a good time! Well, I think you're off to a good start on the TR!

Have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :goodvibes B/c at midnight you can say "I'm getting married this year!":woohoo:

Oh, I love Pop! You took such nice pictures of there, it makes me want to go back! I totally agree with you on getting a preferred room, we got one last year, and were so grateful for it!

That is so cute that your DF sent gifts from the florist! The hats are cute and everything else is so practical! I can't wait to read more!:goodvibes

YAY I'M GETTING MARRIED THIS YEAR! Funny that I do actually look kinda tan next to you- all the rest of my photos I look pale in again! Maybe my iPhone just loves me! And I'll let Ryan know his ratings are improving on the boards:lmao: He has been very concerned about his repuation:rotfl:

YAY!! You started a TR!! Can't wait to read more. Sounds like you had fun!
Thanks for reading Mandy- we had a blast! Will post more soon!

He did do a great job! I was so surprised! In April we are trying out All-Star Movies but it's hard to imagine that I will like it more than POP. I'll have to let you know!

So we changed and headed out to the Polynesian. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom and were going to take one of the boats over but we got tired of waiting so hopped on the monorail. Here we are while we were waiting for the boat with our ears on:

DSC02104.jpg

(Please ignore my hair in all the pictures… it gets really unmanageable in FL weather, won't be straight but won't curl either- just a frizzy mess)

Our reservation at Kona wasn't until 6:45 but we got there shortly after 5 so we could look around. I showed her Kona first and then we headed over to Ohana so I could show her where we are planning to have dinner after the wedding and get her opinion. Well she loved the look of Ohana and was really sad we weren't going to eat there (I had tried to get a reservation but since it was sort of a last minute trip it was all booked up). So we decided to ask at the counter and see if they had any openings- they said it would be 1 hr 45 min wait- I let Jodi decide (bc I did kinda want to try Kona since I have never been there) and she decided to wait. So we cancelled our ressie at Kona and headed out to Sunset Pointe.

DSC01551-1.jpg

Every time I visit Sunset Pointe I love it more! I just feel a certain peace when I'm there and looking across at the castle is just so magical! Sometimes I think about switching sites bc there are so many restrictions with this site but in the end I can't imagine being married anywhere else!

We walked on the beach for a little bit then headed back in to check out the gift shops. Here's Jodi with the Tiki man on the first floor:

DSC02106.jpg

While we were in the gift shops I heard a horn sound and then remembered hearing once about the torch lighting ceremony at the Poly… the start is signaled by the blowing of a conch shell that makes a trumptet like sound! So I grabbed Jodi and we headed into the main lobby and sure enough I was right! They led us outside and the ceremony started. It only lasts maybe 5-7 minutes. It's one of the fire dancers from the Spirit of Aloha show and an announcer (who is the lady from Ohana). I wouldn't make a special trip just to see this or anything but I really enjoyed it and if you're ever in the area I would definitely check it out… I think it must have been at 6 pm.

DSC02118.jpg

Then we headed to the Tambu Lounge and ordered the beloved Lapu Lapu I've been wanting so much!

DSC02122.jpg

Jodi wanted to try mine first and didn't really care for it but agreed it gets an A+ for presentation. It's not that it's bad by any means you can just taste the rum in it and she only likes drinks that are really fruity so you don't even know you're drinking alcohol… I would still order it again! She still looks really happy when she's tasting mine though:
DSC02120.jpg

Just after our drinks came our table was ready! I was about 6:20 so we got seated even earlier than our Kona reservation! We were seated just to the right of the grill:

DSC02134.jpg

Dinner was good, Jodi loved it, I liked it. I really missed the augratin potatoes and found the noodles to be a disappointing substitute. Jodi LOVED the noodles so maybe it really is just a matter of preference. Overall though I still love this restaurant and am going to stick with it for our dinner after the wedding. It's a relaxed, casual, and fun atmosphere and that is what I want!

You start out with bread and the salad which is AWESOME! It has a delicious honey-lime dressing:

DSC02123.jpg

Then comes the appetizers: Honey-Coriander Wings and Potstickers. The wings were really good (and I'm not always a wing fan.) The potstickers were good but a little on the crunchy side which is just not how I'm used to them being prepared.

DSC02126.jpg

They give you 3 dipping sauces Peanut, Spicy Mustard, and Sweet and Sour. They are all good but for some reason we thought they all tasted really similar- maybe we cross dipped and contaminated?:confused3

DSC02124.jpg

Next they dropped off the side dish, lo-mein noodles and stir-fried vegetables. I already mentioned my opinion on this earlier.

DSC02127.jpg

Then next all the meats! The shrimp were delicious! The seasoning on them was great! They have the shells on still which I know some people think is gross but in my opinion it's just a little extra work and kinda messy but well worth the effort!

DSC02128.jpg

Then they brought grilled turkey and BBQ pork loin. The turkey was the only thing neither one of us really cared for… it was really dry. The pork loin was good though. (turkey on left, pork on right)

DSC02129.jpg

Then they brought the marinated sirloin steak:lovestruc and this was my favorite! The seasoning was great and it was done to perfection in my opinion! I'm sure you could get a more well done piece if you prefer.

DSC02132.jpg

And last but not least dessert! Bread pudding a la mode with banana caramel sauce… sooooo yummy!

DSC02133.jpg

We were both so full we thought we would have to roll out of the restaurant… on the way out Jodi started randomly laughing then requested this photo-op!:lmao:
DSC02136.jpg

Up next… our unexpected trip to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party!

So after dinner we rolled ourselves onto the monorail and were planning to head over to Jellyrolls for some more fun! However, as we walked past the Magic Kingdom towards the buses we found ourselves drawn in by the Christmas music:santa: MCVMP was going on but we had decided before that we weren't going to go- at the time we thought it was too much money, plus I had never been to Jellyrolls so we thought that would be fun. But somehow before we knew it we had bought tickets to MVMCP and were skipping on the streets of Main Street with snow coming down:yay: The parade was going on right when we got there and it was truly just magical and such a great time to share with Jodi as her first Disney experience.

Here's Santa at the end of the parade:
DSC02140.jpg

I love the castle at Christmas time, it's so beautiful:
DSC02142.jpg

After the parade we headed over to the Haunted Mansion. Jodi was requesting this as her first ride... however she later told me she had been thinking of the tower of terror and that she had been waiting for a huge drop the whole ride:lmao: We then headed over to Splash Mountain- there was no wait so we rode it twice, then we hopped on Big Thunder and headed over and did Pirate's:woohoo: It was getting close to the time for the show in front of the castle so we decided to head and get cookies and cocoa. We saw one of the Country Bears on our way:
DSC02144.jpg

At first we couldn't figure out where everyone was getting the cocoa- I thought it would be at a stand outside... eventually we asked someone and they directed us to the Diamond Horseshoe. We got our cocoa and cookies which were just okay but the highlight was that we got to get our pic taken with the Woody and Bullseye:
DSC02146.jpg

Then we grabbed a prime viewing spot right in front of the castle:
DSC02150.jpg
The show was really good. Many times I'll watch the beginning of the show and then lose interest and head back to the rides but I really enjoyed this one. My camera isn't very good with action shots but here's a few pics:
DSC02151.jpg

DSC02153.jpg

At the end tons of snow started coming down! I had heard about the snow on Main Street and that it was magical but being from Minnesota didn't really think fake snow could really be very neat but I loved:love: it! It looked really real, it drifted right and melted when it touched your skin.

Then we headed back to Fantasy Land. It was almost park close by this time but Jodi wanted to ride Dumbo and the Tea Cups.
DSC02158.jpg

We laughed ourselves silly and then watched the fireworks. It was truly magical, Jodi was tearing up while she watched Wishes:hug: FYI It is different than the usual Wishes, it is Holiday themed with Christmas music.

Overall I think I would do MVMCP again. It is a bit pricey but for us I think it was worth it. We didn't have park tickets for that day so I didn't feel like I was double paying and it allowed us to get more rides done since we had such a short trip. There were also lots of characters out and about, we just didn't have time to stop and get pics with them all. But definately the most characters I have ever seen and some of the more unusual ones too!

Next up: Day 2 highlights of Hollywood Studios and more MK

So quick wedding update! I opened my e-mail this morning and found a PIN code from Disney! I was thought these to be mythical but I GOT ONE! It was for 20% off value resorts, 30% off moderate resorts, or 40% off Deluxe Resorts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I called and booked Carribean Beach for 11/28-12/5 then 12/5 (day before the wedding) we switch to Polynesian til 12/12!!!!! So it's officially booked 2 weeks in WDW!:banana::banana:

My only disappointment was that we had been planning to stay at Poly in a Club Level MK View room, however with this deal that wasn't an option. We were given the choice of Club Level Garden View or Theme Park View but not club level (both options were within $200 of each other). It was too good of a deal to pass up though so in the end we forfeited the club level and booked the MK View. I briefly thought about just booking the club level MK view at full price but it would have been more than double the price. I'm sure Club level is great but it can't be worth $2800:eek:!!!!!! Maybe we'll get some pixie dust and get upgraded but I'm not holding my breath.

In total my PIN code saved me over $3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana::banana: I feel like such a lucky girl! Now I don't feel as bad that we are planning to splurge and get characters and an MK photoshoot.

Looks like you guys had a great time! can't wait to read more! Me and my DF went to MVMCP 2 years ago and LOVED it! We were so sad we couldn't go again this year.

I am very jealous of you that you got a pin code today! I could really use one of those! haha! Congrats

So far it sounds like a wonderful trip. Looking forward to hearing more.

Loving your TR updates...the Poly is one of my favs. I have to tell you that pic of Sunset Pointe literally made my heart skip a beat!! So beautiful with MK in the background!!!

And yay for your huge savings!!!:cool1:

Oh, your girls trip looks like so much fun!!! I love the Ohana pics and MVMCP!!! That is awesome that you got such great discounts! I would love to stay @ either of those resorts!! I agree, I don't think club level is really worth all the extra $$

Your last posts basically explains my details and with photos (dinner at Ohanas then off to the MVMCP), the pictures really helped my DF understand why Ohanas is great. :cool1:

Side question - what are PIN codes?

WOW that is great! I need to catch up on you TR.
I am sooooo behind on everyone's PJ's and TR's right now:sad2: I did manage to see a few pics of your wedding- you looked like a princess!

I know I really need to finish this TR! If I can't finish a 3 day TR how will I ever finish my 2 week wedding and honeymoon TR:scared1:

Hi Mandy! Your wedding is sooooo soon, can't wait to follow your TR!

Sometimes I still find myself wishing we were staying CL but then my logical side kicks in and I know it's best to save the $!

Side question - what are PIN codes?
Kerry!!!! I'm so glad you found my PJ! It looks like our weddings are super close together and very similar! PIN codes are discount codes that Disney either mails or e-mails to you. They are specific to the person they send them to so unfortunately you can't share them. From what I had read previously it wasn't really clear why certain people got them and others did not... but someone said that they thought you got into the system through booking directly through Disney. We had always booked through AAA so our last 2 trips I booked through Disney directly and then I got one!!!! I hope they release MVMCP dates soon so you can pick your date!

i've been MIA for awhile and i come back and wow have you been planning! everything sounds great so far, can't wait to see more!

I feel like I've been MIA too... funny how when you're gone for awhile the boards just seem to multiply with plans!

Okay I am determined to finish this mini TR before my next trip which is only 1 month away:cool1:

Day 2 Highlights of Hollywood Studios, Quick Trip Around the World, and the rest of MK

We woke up bright and early and I picked up some Mickey waffles for us while Jodi was getting ready. They only had them as a kids meal (hence why it came with apple sauce). Jodi had never had Mickey waffles before and she loved them
DSC02159.jpg

Then we were off to Hollywood Studios and we made it in time for rope drop:
DSC02161.jpg

We basically walked onto Toy Story Mania (love that ride!), then hopped on Rockin Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror with very short waits!
DSC02163.jpg

Then the plan was to hop on a bus to MK but when we walked out the friendship boat to Epcot was there so we decided to hop on and take a quick detour through Epcot on our way to MK. It definitely wasn’t the most direct route but I’m really glad we did this because I had never had a chance to see the Boardwalk area before except in pictures. Plus this way I was also able to show Jodi the world’s in Epcot while it was light out. It was just before 11 when we got to Epcot so we did a quick tour around the world and got some lunch. We decided to share a meal in Japan and in China. In Japan we got a California roll which was pretty good
DSC02164.jpg

then in China we got the shrimp fried rice and this was NOT good… the egg roll was good and the potstickers were ok but there were only 4 of the tiniest shrimp and the rice wasn’t really fried rice… it had no flavor at all and as you can see it’s basically white rice with a few vegetables. Some of the other meals we saw people with actually looked really good- I just wish we would have seen how pathetic ours looked before we would have ordered:
DSC02167.jpg

So we finished our speed trip through the world’s said a quick good-bye to Epcot.
DSC02168.jpg

Then we hopped on the monorail to head back to Magic Kingdom for the afternoon!
