Poly worth the extra cost?

Ahh, gotcha! The vibe at the Poly really is fantastic, but as I said, we were a bit disappointed in it. We're trying BLT this August.

The location at the Contemporary cannot be beat if your going to MK often, I highly recommend it for that. I suggested staying again I was met with a shrug.... maybe next time

This past Nov. we did a split-stay between BCV 1 bedroom and BLT 1 bedroom with a 4 yr. old and 9 month old. BCV for HS and Epcot countries. AK moving day (we drove down), and BLT for MK and front of Epcot. We have also done this staying at the Poly Villas and Hotel. Didn't ride the bus one time (which we really dislike).

Get UBER to move you, not Disney. I highly recommend them. A transfer of us/bags from GF to BWI last month was only $7, probably 20 min. total and our room just happened to be ready when we got there.

I haven't seen any discounts on STANDARD rooms at the Poly this year, mostly other views/club (actually got a better deal at the GF last month??). I have seen a few Poly studios discounted though and you can rent points on them too, also at BCV and BWV.

If I did a split stay I think I would do it somewhat like this. MK/Epcot Poly days, Epcot/HS the days at the Epcot resort and then AK on transfer day or one other day.... but moving seems like such a pain!

IMO no. I know Poly is a very popular resort, but honestly it's probably my least favorite of the Deluxe resorts I've stayed at (BWI, YC, AKL, WL, and Poly.)
I think the main advantage of Poly is monorail access to both MK and Epcot (the TTC is an easy walk from Poly) but in my experience, the monorail is not a huge convenience. In almost every trip I've taken, the monorail has been down for at least part of the time. Also, the lines for the monorail are so long. And I've seen some pretty poor behavior on the monorails as well--kids using the poles to swing around and parents not saying a word, even as they strike other people in the process.

I stayed at the Poly on the Labor Day deal before. I would never pay rack rate. It is not worth those prices IMO. We enjoyed our stay but it didn’t live up to the massive hype for us. We did a split stay with BC and enjoyed the resort much more. My kids loved BC and says they preferred it over the Poly.

Next trip we are doing BWV on rented points. We just love the Epcot area. With renting points the studio comes out to $189 a night!

We were in the same position as you are now a year ago. We had our hearts set on the Poly, mainly because we have two littles with us this year (2 & 5). When it came time to book and we weren't willing to pay rack rate for the Poly, I waited until the summer discounts. Now, it is cheaper to stay at GF than it is the Poly. Which is crazy to me. The Poly was close to $500-600 per night on any of the weeks that we could go. That just doesn't make sense for us. So we are staying again at Port Orleans Riverside. We like the grounds there and while I will miss out on the monorail, I have heard it isn't always the most reliable and I just can't constitute paying that much per night for a hotel room. Next time, I will consider renting (though I am not in love with the fact they are non-refundable). I would recommend having a back up plan and not getting your hopes up too high in case it doesn't happen the way you want it too.

We went back and forth trying to decide between Poly and WL for our trip this past February, since we definitely wanted a resort near MK when traveling with a little kid. In the end we stayed at WL and I am soooo glad we did. We visited Poly a few times and...I just don't get it. It's like being in a 1950's movie about Hawaii, but the set was designed by someone who had never actually been to Hawaii. Everything was crowded, and the indoor decor was dark and depressing. WL was absolutely beautiful, and very convenient to MK, so you might give it a look!

It was also an option, I was a bit worried about the busses....

Same here. Split stay Poly/YC last year. I liked the room slightly better at the Poly, because of the size. But the severely overcrowded Poly pools, dominated by the chair hogs, as well as the influx of people for 'Ohana and Spirit of Aloha, would make me choose YC. We're trying a WL/BWI split this year.

Honestly, after a few trips each at Contemporary/BLT and Beach Club, I have a hard time calling any of the resorts that don’t allow you to walk to a park worth it.

Relying on your own feet to get to a park is worth so much more to me personally than theming. I do love the Poly though, and make sure to visit it for a meal or two.

The walking to two parks from the Epcot resorts is what keeps bringing me back to them! A major reason we loved our stay at the Beach Club

I completely agree. Relying on your feet beats the monorail, boats or buses any day.

It really depends on what kind of cost you're looking at. But yes, I would pay more for the Poly over an Epcot resort. While I absolutely love to be able to walk to Epcot every morning, there's just something magical about the Poly, that I just don't find at the Epcot resorts.

MK monorail resorts are always priced more than Epcot resorts. I like both areas but I agree there’s just something a little more magical about a Poly or GF stay. Maybe it’s the fact that you can see MK and The Castle from the resort, and able to watch the MK fireworks from areas in the resort.

My thoughts are the same as both of the above.

Poly is our favorite resort. GF a close second.

This is us as well. The GF is a great resort, but the Poly will always be our favorite.

We love Poly! Being on the monorail has its advantages especially if you plan on spending most of your time at MK and Epcot. If not take a look at Boardwalk. It is very nice too and is much closer to HS and Epcot. You have the back entrance to Epcot too and its only a very short walk from the resort.

I got a discount on a standard room for my October trip through a TA. It’s the only way we can afford to stay at the Poly and I’ve always wanted to try it out!

That's great. The last Standard room discount I got through Disney was in 11/2015. I just like to book through Disney because you only have to pay for the 1st night and can cancel up to 5 days.

That’s the same policy my TA has! Well, I think it’s 6 days, but virtually the same.

I stayed at the poly with my parents for the first time in 1974 and was able to take my wife and daughter there for their first time this past September. I really like the hotel it’s one of my favorites. That being said it is in no way worth the money they charge for it. None of the Disney hotels or motels are worth the money they charge.

Poly is our favorite resort. So I think it’s worth it. Everyone’s opinion is going to vary.
