POLY "TIKIMAN" RETIRED?

I have Aol and Road runner and I can access the whole site from all the links above and what I had in my favorite links. So I am not sure why all can't get it. Steve ( Tikiman ) is the greatest. He made our first trip 3 years ago on site at the Poly the best vacation my family has ever had. I email him a few times 3 years ago about what longhouse to get and he email me back in 1 day and gave me his opinion. He doesn't have to do this but he does and for free. He has made a lot of people happy around here. I think it is shameful that anyone would make anyone else feel bad no matter what. This is all for fun at least that is why I love this place. So it is a shame that some comments can ruin it for others. People should think things through before they post. I hope everything works out for all to access his site. Brenda

Hey guys! One of my good friends is top notch on computers and he looked at the website...it is indeed blocked. I guess those of us with aol are not affected..yet.


I found tikiman's website YEARS ago...before I even found the dis. I wish he wouldn't take critiscism so hard b/c there are more that love the site than hate it.

Tikiman....let it just slide of your back, don't close the website over the DIS.

Tikiman needs to just go on with his life (and website which is awesome) and not worry about what a few folks here or there think. His site is a fan site - of course he is biased about the place cause he loves it. Maybe he gets better treatment there because he loves it so much and the staff pick up on it. Maybe he gets the same treatment as everyone else. Who knows? Who cares? I just enjoy his site for the info and I haven't even stayed at the Poly! LOL!

I only just stumbled across him about 3 days ago. This is a supper busy time of year. I made it through about the 1st 8 pages and then saved to my favorites so I could finish. PLEASE bring it back!!!!!!!!!

Yup, have to agree....TIKIMAN RULES!!! My father always said in anything I do or have an interest in....learn all about it I can and don't forget to share it with others...that is just what TIKIMAN exemplifies...he loves the Poly and has never ceased to share the wealth of knowledge with us all...

Don't let the turkeys get you down, Tikiman!! And to all those turkeys out there.....take a lesson from Steve...it is better to give than to hack.

Lucky for me (too bad nincompoop hackers) I had just visited his site yesterday and have it saved in history....only if you click on his home page do you get the 'TIKIMAN RETIRED' screen...you can tell it is a hackers attempt at blocking his site because Steve would have used a much more professional and courteous design in announcing his retiring of the site....so if you want to back-door his site you can use this link....

But if you accidentally hit the home page you'll be stuck with that error page again....can't these jerks use their talents to help others instead of sabotaging those who do help others?

I would like to say Mahalo to Tikiman and ask him to reinstate his website, if he has indeed closed it. I have been mainly a lurker here on the DIS boards for MANY years, but love to read everyone's opinion. His Polynesian website has been SO helpful to me on many trips. We fell in love with the Polynesian and have used so much of his info to make plans, pick rooms and just get a Poly fix.

I volunteer for a local humane society and understand that being a volunteer is a labor of love. Tikiman has volunteered to create his website and in the process has provided me and other information seekers with TONS of useful information. I certainly hope that Tikiman continues his labor of love and overlooks the immaturity of a few naysayers. They are surely entitled to their opinions, but I believe the applause of the majority will certainly drown out the complaints of a few.

I shouldn't be surprised anymore but I have to admit it still shocks me as to how completely rude/snide/nasty people can be in an anonymous setting like the internet. Someone is putting time, money and effort into something they receive no compensation from and people have to tear it down. Shameful.

Very well said! I benefitted both from Tikiman's site and his fabulously responsive and informative DIS postings when planning our Easter '05 trip! I usually love to read Poly threads and even I was turned off by the nastiness of that thread that others here have mentioned.

Steve - You rock and whatever you decide is understandable! Hope you and your wife and baby are well and happy.

I'm so upset that some people get so RUDE on this board. I just don't understand all of the negativity!

Personally, I think TIKIMAN's website was great, but for the opposite reason most of you did. I wasn't sure if the Poly was the resort for me, so I checked out his extensive library of photos and information. What an amazing website! Turns out the Poly isn't right for me (beautiful, just not what I was looking for). Without Steve's help, I would have spent some serious $$$$ on the wrong hotel FOR ME. I'm sure I'm in the minority -- most people would look at those pictures and fall in love with the resort!

That's the great thing about Disney: there's something for everyone's tastes and preferences. This board should be the same and welcome EVERYONE.

I hope TIKIMAN keeps his website going!

I have AOL and the only one that works for me is the first one on this page (4). It's possible it's pulling the old pages out of your temporary internet files. I hadn't accessed the site before the change, so I don't have them in temporary internet.

wow - something is definitely weird. I go to firefox and I get the black with Tikiman is retires but if I use IE I get the text then the black screen comes up.

I also spent my birthday at the Poly and wanted to thank Tikiman, had it not been for his website and positive attidude I would have never even tried the Poly.

I have the same problem with Firefox/IE and the webpage.

I tried going to his official board at Disney's Echo Ears, and there's no update/message.

I'm sad to say that I've stopped coming by the Dis as often as I used to because of things like this. Why people seem to want to attack the person, instead of the opinion, will always be beyond me.

I initially get to the first page and then it redirects to the retired page. This was/is a terrific site but I totally understand if he wants to retire it. Maintaining a website is a lot of work. Especially when you are doing it for free. Also bandwidth can cost a lot. I don't blame him for wanting out if people here are giving him flack.


On a similar note, I once got a nasty email from someone regarding my CSR site thinking that I was Disney and they wanted to voice all their complaints to me. I don't know what part of "Unofficial" in the title or disclaimer they didn't understand? Made me want to shut my site down entirely after that.
